Twice Told Tales RINGWOOD NEWS FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the flies of March 28, 1929) Mrs. Elizabeth Thelen Pich is in McHenry this week making preparations for the openkng of her new millinery shop in the Kent building on Riverside Drive. The opening will take place March 30. John J. Stockton, former advertising manager of the Woodstock Daily Sentinel, on Thursday of last week purchased the Woodstock News and Hebron Tribune from A.D. Wiseman. The Woodstock News was established in 1926. Mr. Wiseman moved his plant there from Hebron. Jimmy Fay makes a good showing in his first bout at the Polly Prim. Under the flag of the M.A.C. he won by a technical knockout from Eric Soderburg of Evanston. This was Fay's first bout, and with no special boxing training he did well. The body of Dr. Harry H. Hanly of Peoria was brought to the Woodland cemetery in this city for burial on Tuesday afternoon. Dr. Hanly passed away Feb. 13 and the body was placed in a vault at Peoria awaiting more favorable weather. A1 Krause has been absent from his work at Bolger's drug store for several days owing to burns about his face and hands received on Thursday of last week. He had been- raking his yard and in starting a bon fire he saturated a paper with gasoline by mistake which when lighted blazed into his face burning it as well as his hands. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of March *30, 1944) A loss most keenly felt by the residents of the Johnsburg community this "week has been .occasioned by the death of Hen- **y J. Thelen, 78, who passed away at his home there Saturday evening, March 25. Another of our McHenry boys to arrive overseas among the many sent from our shores in recent weeks is Pfc. Warren Jones, sonofVaughan Jones of this city. Warren entered service April 7 and after basic training at Clearwater, Fla., came back to Illinois and graduated from sheet metal school at Chanute Field. Following this, he was sent to Camp Seymour, Johnson, N.C., where he trained for overseas. The local community Methodist church was the scene of •a very lovely early spring wedding March 23 when Miss Doris Darlene Thomas of McHen- >ry and Mr. Walter E. Low of 'itingwood were united in marriage. Rev. Mack Powell officiated. Mr. and Mrs. G. William Collins officiated. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thompson attended the modern living home and flower show at Navy pier on Monday. Last rites for Miss Frances Bauer, who died March 6, were held at St. Mary's Catholic church, March 9, followed by burial in the church cemetery. She was "a lifelong resident of the community. Illinois Bell Telephone company has filed a tariff revision with the Illinois Commerce commission in Springfield which when effective will esr tablish Pistakee Highlands as a separate exchange. Manager R. C. Jahn said the change will be made effective April 19. About 250 customers will be in the new exchange. WEDNESDAY CARD CLUB The card club met on Wednesday afternoon in the home of Mrs. Anna Shadle with Miss Mae Wiedrich taking high and Ruby Shepard with low. RINGWOOD SUNSHINE 4-H CLUB NEWS The Ringwood Sunshine 4-H Club was called to order at 7:30 p.m. The pledges were led by Leon Tonyan. The Federation Report was given by Lynn Tomlinson. It reported that we should go because there is going to be two FBI agents at the meeting. The refreshments for this meeting were served by Karen Smith and Patty Christopher. Tom Hon? and Ralph Ackerman will serve next meeting. The demonstrations for this month were Rodney Ackerman, cooking; Kim Spengel, sewing; Vic Hopp, small engines; Lynn Tomlinson, sewing; Ruth Tonyan, cooking and Diane Christopher, stitchery. This month'stalks were given by Tom Hopp and Pam Spengel. For next month, Rodney Ackerman, Linda Vick and Craig Ackerman will give talks. Demonstrations for next month will be given by Colleen Tonyan, sewing; Debbie Freund, cooking, Tom Hopp, rocks, and Cathy Tonyan, cooking. ' May 7, is the next meeting.
