PLAINDEALER PHOTO Earl Walsh SO I HEAR Sports Editor Everybody isinnocentNobody knows how that picture with a C ub banner happened to be placed at the end of our last column. Whoever ya are, how can we thank you? The ranks are thinning in the list of our longtime friends. Fred Rogers left this earth this week. He was quite an athlete in his' day, playing football under the guidance of the one and only Coach Zupke. Fred used to play sofball with the very active Married Men's Club some years back. NOTE ON TRACK ... Revising the order of results on track sheets and getting them set presents one heckuva job. Our experts, sometimes known as makeup artists, are working out something different. However, it will not be ready until next week. Just be patient. Never fear when Dick and Linda get into high gear. Nothing we could say about Fred could come up to this summation made by his son. John: "He was a good father." The Kiwanis pancake, breakfast last Sunday was a real success. The second helping was just as good as the first. From the moment Roland Herrmann greeted us at the "door of the Legion Home until the last drop of coffee, we enjoyed the sociability .. and the pancakes. So all in all the little Warriors made a fine showing in their initial baptism outdoors; keep up the great work! Wonder Lake Mustangs Lose Season Opener The Wonder Lake Mustang Soccer Team had their first taste of organized league play last Sunday when they played against Atlantic United at the McHenry American Legion field and lost li-0. United, which is made up of all British Isle players, was newly formed this year and are all former first and second division players from other Chicago teams. According to the rules a newly formed team must start out in third division and work their way up. The excellent teamwork displayed by this young club in Sunday's game leaves no doubt that they will get to the higher divisions without too much difficulty. Next Sunday - April 20 the W.L. Mustangs will be playing against a- team nam-3d 'Juventus" at Hanson Stadium on Central avenue (north) in Chicago. A bus has been chartered and will leave from the McHenry American Legion clubhouse. at 12:30 noon. However, the Warriors came storming; back to win against Woodstock by a margin of 3-2 and gain the first McHenry tennis victory in 13 years .Against Woodstock, Leon Zelvis had an especially exciting match, winning 6-4,8-10, and 7-5. Jim Donnelly won easily by the margin of 6-2, 6-2, and the doubles team of Keith Klontz and Ed Wittrock.stormed back after losing their first set to gain victory. This first win was an especially gratifying win for coach Phil Glatz after losing to Crystal Lake, and he feels that when Jim Lightner returns after an in4- jury that the Warriors mil be strengthened considerably. The three most essential bones to the human body seem to be the wishbone, backbone and jawbone. The season is on its way and Coach Cuda is rebuilding a golf team Arhich lost four lettermen through graduation. The North suburban championship squad will be hard to replace, however, practice results are very promising. Last Tuesday the MCHS team travelled to Fox Lake C.C. and showed tremendous strength with a four man total of 162 for a 9 hole match. Harry Hans was low for McHenry with a one over par 38. Other scores were Jeff Michels 40, Russ Leight 42, Scott Fisher 42, and Kurt Knaack 44. Nelson Adams, an outstanding sophomore golf prospect, did not make the trip, but will be in action Thursday when Crystal Lake comes to McHenry. If the boys keep up this kind of golf, another conference championship could be in sight for Coach Cuda. The sophomores also setback Grant's sophs by a lopsided score of 195 to 227. Low scorer for the McHenry team was Dave Watkins with a 46. Other scores were Dan Nosal 48, Steve Fain 50, and Mike Sairti 51. MONDAY NITE COMMERCIAL LEAGUE McHENRY RECREATION R.
