I THE WHOLE WORLD? -- Bat Girl Nancy DeWerdt may not have "the whole world in her hands" but in Don Reinboldt, ace pitcher for the Warriors, she has one of the major hopes of their numerous fans for a top season. Plaindealer Photo Warrior Ball Team Splits With Barrington Broncos PG. 6- PLAINDEALER -WED. APRIL 30, 1969 SHOP IN McHENRY by Bert Hagemann The Warriors split a doubleheader this past Saturday with the always tough Broncos of Barrington, winning the first contest 3-1, and losing in the nightcap 6-1. Our recent batting slump continued to plague us in both games, but timely hitting in the first game, plus clutch relief, pitching by Steve Salter, gave us our fifth conference win of the season. Down by 1-0 in the second inning, the Warriors tallied two runs off Barrington Ace Bob Allen on a walk to John Smith, a triple by Tom Janik, and an infield out. We added an insurance run in the fifth when Steve George beat out an infield roller, went to third on Mark Camasta's hit and run single, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Mike Janik. Steve Salter, our answer to Ted Abernathy, entered in the sixth with one out and a runner on when Don Reinboldt injured his arm. Salter preserved the victory against the heavy hitting Broncos although the Barrington squad managed a mild last inning threat which Salter ended by fanning Sass on a called third strike. The second contest saw Mc- Henry push across a run when Camasta singled, stole second, and scored on Tom Janik's single, and things looked rosy as pitcher Mike Freund sailed through the first four innings with no problems at all. However, in the fifth inriing the roof caved in when the big red scored six times on the basis of three bunts, two bat handle bloopers, and an error to ice the ball game. The loss kept us in a tie for first however, as Zion was going down to defeat for the first time also in league competition. The Warrior hitting left much to be desired as a whole on this bright warm day, but we did manage to cool off large Dave Glantz as he hit the ball solidly only once all day. The Bronco pitchers did a masterful job of keeping the ball low and keeping our scoring threats to a minimum. This Saturday it is show down time with the rugged Zee Bees on their home sand pile. Game time is 1-2:30 due to a testing schedule. Your support is both needed and will be strongly appreciated. WARRIORS B R H Decker LF 3 0 0 Camasta 2B 2 1 2 M. Janik SS 3 0 0 T. Janik CF 3 0 1 J. I just turrigd over my 73 year and feel fine in spite of it. I must have had a fine guardian angel that had a hold of my hand or I was just plain lucky. My nephews, Donald and Art Stilling, were out this fall and they could not figure how I made it. You seem to be doing pretty good, no wrinkles on your brow, but it seems you lost a few hairs or my eye-sight is getting bad. How about saying Hello to that' lady on the other end of the paper "KAF". She is no stranger to me. She must be pretty smart, never got married and writes a nice Musin' . and Meanderin'. We are all well and hope the same for you. Frank Justin Dear Frank, Nice of you to write. The picture of you from the local paper is a darb. Wish we had a print. It does look a little different than your pictures in McHenry High year book of about 1914-15-16. The records show you were one of McHenry's great athletes. By this time you have read about the big fire at the Justen Furniture Store. We kept thinking of George "Stubby" during the terrible scene. George probably would have saved his Cub baseball tickets the first thing. He spent long hours in that store and still had time to "manage" the Cubs. You would well remember Jake Justen when he ran the store way back when. In the summer months, he had a bench out front and welcomed all who would sit dow» for a yis^. Just whenyour letter arriveji, Donald (your nephew) brought me the same clipping -- and more. Congratulations on being elected president of the Madera County Livestock Association. Don's clipping tells of your many years of service to the Junior Fair. You have been a busy fellow. Am amused at your mention of "K.A.F.". You have no idea how hard we have worked over long years to get her over the matrimonial hump. She simply does not take our advice. She may do some Musin' but we can't get her Meanderin* along the path. Your eyesight is clear, we need a wig. Best wishes to you, Marian and family. Write again.
