Warriors Dumped By Maroons On Elgin Diamond, 3-1 by Bert Hagemann J The Maroons of Elgin ended the recent Warrior victory honeymoon with a well played, 3-1 victory on Elgin turf. The Maroons roughed up starter Scott Nickels for three runs in the second inning, and then made it stand up under the onslaught of two frantic Warrior rallies in the late inning^. Of the three tallies scored off lefty Nickels, two were unearned when the junior pitcher threw a sure double play ball into center field to open the scoring gates for Elgin. The Warriors meanwhile were making consistent contact with the ball as evidenced by only three strikeouts, but the hits simply were hot falling for some of the slump ridden players. Poor base running took us out of an inning in the fifth when a player missed third, and Mike Freund flied out to end the contest in the 7th with the bases loaded and one run in on pinch hitter Tom Janik's single to left. Junior right hander Mike Carlson once again impressed with a snappy three inning relief stint, but our inability to get an inning going against theftreballing Elgin right hander spelled defeat number 2 for the season It was at this point last year that our bubble burst and triggered a downhill slide in the second half of the season. Hopefully we have enough depth and hustle to avoid any such thing this year. Our next home contest is not until Friday, May Q when Larkin comes to town. We play at Woodstock on Tuesday the 6th hope vou can make it to give us some needed support. Warriors: - 1 Elgin: - 3. Warriors - 4 hits. Elgin - 6 hits. Warriors - 1 error. Elgin 0 errors. THE ASMATIC An asmatic person needs more sleep than the average, so to give them a more comfortable night's rest, there are a few things that can be done to their bedrooms. An air conditioner is a wise investment to filter incoming air and to control temperature. Electronic devices and special filters may be needed to eliminate dust and pollen. The asmatic needs to have a dustfree room. Dust catchers such as books, magazines, clothing and upholstered furniture should be removed. A covering for the mattress is helpful and steel bed frames can be washed free from dust. Woolen rugs and draperies should be replaced with a washable cotton type. Tennis Team Enters Winners Circle Again The Warrior tennis squad emerged victorious once again this past Friday, April 18, with a close fought 3-2 victory over conference rival Dundee. Jim Lightner and Leon Zelvis came through with strong wins in their respective singles matches while Jim Donnelly lost" to his opponent amid the high winds and cold prevailing temperatures. The match tightened up considerably when Broderick and Grossich lost their doubles match 8-10 and 4-6, but Keith Klontz and Ed Wittrock gave the Warriors the victory with a come from behind victory, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5. Meanwhile the frosh-soph romped to an easy 4-1 victory in their matches with McGown and Higgons victorious in singles, and the doubles teams of Englehardt and Bixby and Low and Lingenfelter both tasted the winners nectar. Coach Phil Glatz promised steady improvement from his charges, and so far that is exactly what the orange and black are doing. In another conference duel later on this past week, the Warriors were downed by Zion- Benton 3-2. Results are as follows: VARSITY SINGLES # McHENRY 1. Jim Lightner 2-6, 1-6. 2.
