MAY 2, 1969 - PLAINDEALER -PG. 7 Former board members of Johnsburg School District 12 and Ringwood District 34, which last June joined the Johnsburg district, were honored at the reorganizational meeting of the latter held last week. PLAINDEALER PHOTO PAY TRIBUTE TO FORMER SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS At the Johnsburg Schodl District 12 reorganizational meeting last week, eighteen former board members of ^Districts 12 and 34 were in attendance upon invitation. Supt. James C. Bush extended a welcome to all former board members and invited them to tour the building at their leisure. He stated that during the past ten years he had the good fortune to work with them in many capacities and that it was always a privilege and pleasure as their counsel was highly regarded. It was noted that Johnsburg was pleased to have Ringwood join the district as they brought with them many good band and choir members, as well as ball players. The former board nhembers commended Mr. Bush for his service as superintendent of District 12. He, in turn, stated the able assistance of Duane Andreas, Gertrude Savastano and James VanBosch made possible many of the educational accomplishments of the district. Assistant Supt. Andreas, in the name of the citizens, teachers and pupils of School District 12, thanked the present and former board members for their dedication, public service and civic-mindedness. He pointed out that it was only through the far-sightedness and cooperation of the boards of education of School District 12, that it has risen to the high esteem it commands today, not only in the Johnsburg area, but in McHenry county and the state of Illinois. Board decisions of recent years were reviewed and it was recalled that when Mr. Andreas (who is the employee with longest term of service at Johnsburg school) came to District 12 in 1956, only five teachers were employed in the public school. The teaching staff now totals 40. Following the presentation of the resolution Richard R. Marshall and Clayton Bruce lead the boys in a story-telling session. All the group then moved to the multi-purpose room where they were met by the surprise of a candlelighted room arranged with decorated card tables. The serving table was gleaming with punch, coffee, nuts, candy, tarts and cookies to tempt the appetites of the guests. The refreshments were served by Mrs. Savastano, the business coordinator, assisted by Mrs. Booker and Miss Zabroski. In the spirit of jest, it was moved and seconded that all future board meetings of District 12 be held in the same manner, which received unanimous support by acclamation. A canvass of votes showed incumbents James E. Long and Jerome E. Olsen reelected. Vincent Tonyan was elected to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of President Richard R. Marshall. Long and Olsen were elected president and secretary, respectively, for the school year 1969-70 by acclamation. The board established the second Tuesday of the month as its regular meeting night in the Johnsburg Elementary School. The present board retired to the business of the evening. Since the teachers and board of education have established the salary schedule and other negotiated items for the school year of 1969-70, May 9, was established as the date for all teachers starting their second - year in the Johnsburg system | to return their contracts. All ' teachers in this classification had indicated May 9 as a satisfactory date. The following new teachers were employed; Judith Gray, Randy Swikle and Linda Low. The following for- " mer board members were in ) attendance: Albert A. Adams, 5 Albert W. Albrecht, Clayton Bruce, Joseph Frett, Edwin Hettermann, John Lanway, Richard R. Marshall, Elmer G. Meyers, W.T. Peterson, Michael L. Schaefer, Francis M. Schmitt, Edward Thoren, Vincent Tonyan, and John Weingart. RINGWOOD NEWS DOLORES BRENNAN 653-9045 Public Pulse A WORD OF PRAISE " To Area Residents: "It sometimes takes a misfortune to open our eyes. This was the case in the recent fire at Justen Furniture. As businessmen members of Green Street Mall watched this horrible fire we found it hard to believe that we have such a fine fire department. These men went about their business like true professional fire fighters, yet we know they are all volunteer members. It is difficult for us to conceive how this group of men could carry out their duties to allow Bolgers Drug store to open at 12 noon with no damage, just five short hours after the fire started. We business people know the advantage we have in such a fine department. The residents of this fire district can sleep much easier , knowing these men are on the job. "We are also very thankful for the excellent police department. At every key intersection there were McHenry police helping thousands of cars through our town - this going on from the start of the fire (m Thursday morning to the final razing of the building on Friday night. "A salute to the city of McHenry, Department of Public Works. Barricades, hose ramps, flares and much other equipment furnished by them making the job for the fire and police much easier. " We take pride in being business people, we take pride in living in McHenry. It is the BEST town because of these men. " By order of the membership, "Harry Dean, vice-president, "Green Street Mall, Inc." AROUND TOWN Mr. and Mrs. Mike Kynell and children of Hebron called on Mrs. Ruby Shepard on Friday. Q. Why are tax bills so high this year? A. The average increase this year was 11.3 percent. Increased taxes for schools were the main reason in most cases, although several city governments had hefty hikes also. . Q. When will the bills be due this year? A. The first installment of the Real Estate Tax and the Personal Property Tax are due June 1; the second installment of the Real Estate Tax is due Sept. 1. Q. Where can my tax bill be paid? A. McHenry county tax bills can be paid at any McHenry cbunty bank, at the Treasurer's office or by mail; fans year the Treasurer'suffice encourages you to pay at your local bank. Q. Why should I pay at my bank? A. You'll get an immediate receipt, instead of having to wait for a mailed one. Q. Pd like to talk to someone about my increased tax bill. Who should I call? A. Since your local governmental officials are the ones who set tax rates, they are the first ones to talk to. If you think your assessment is unfair, contact your local township assessor. If neither of these can answer your questions, please give the Treasurer' s office a call. Q. If the income tax is passed, will property taxes decrease? A. City governments could decrease property taxes if they receive the proposed $13 a person each year. This is more than most of them get from property taxes right now, so it would be conceivable that most citie^iapd villages could forego all property tax revenue. For those few McHenry county school districts that would receive large amounts of additional state aid, a similar situation could exist. To find out for sure, ask your local village, city and school officials. Q. I didn't get my tax bill yet. How can I get it? A. Anyone who hasn't received both his real estate and personal property tax bills Tjy May 5 should contact the Treasurer's office. Bills were mailed to each individual's last known address.
