Malkovich, founder and editor of " Outdoor Illinois" Magazine, assistant director of the Department of Conservation. Commenting on the appointment, Ogilvie said: "Dan Malkovich has the respect of Illinois' conservationists and sportsmen, and a wide range of knowledge in this field." Malkovich was instrumental in founding the Rend Lake association in 1954, which later organized the Rend Lake Conservancy district. The public body spanning seven counties is overseeing the construction of a dam on the Big Muddy river and a large inter city public water plant near Benton. HONORS DAY INDUCTION -- This impressive scene was evident in the gymnasium at West campus last Friday when the entire junior and senior classes gathered for the tenth anniversary observance of the tapping ceremony which precedes induction into the National Honors society. With acceptance of eighteen new seniors and twenty-five new juniors, total membership in the local chapter reached sixty-six. 8 PLAINDEALER PHOTO PUBLIC PULSE (The Plaindcaler invites the public to use this column as an expression of their views on subjects of general interest in our community. TEEN-AGE RECREATION "Dear Editor: "There seems to be a great deal of concern lately about teenagers - where they are, what they are doing and are they getting into trouble. We were discussing this the other night and came to the conclusion that there is not enough recreation for teen-agers. Some communities have come up with the idea of turning empty buildings into recreation halls. A good , of this is a place called "Blue Viilage" in Westmont, R1. It started out with an empty National Tea store. They built a bandstand inside of the store and put in some vending machines. It is open on weekends and the local groups play there. " It would seem that we have the perfect place for this in McHenry as the old A&P store is now empty. We were wondering if it would be possible for the city to buy or lease this building for the teen-agers so they will have somewhere to go on Friday and Saturday nights. Maybe the local police and parents could cooperate in supervising the activities, and maybe it could be made a comto fix the building 19. We realize this will need financial help. It could be NOTICE VEHICLE OWNERS If you have noi secured your City Vehicle License for 1969. please bp sure to do so betore June 1st Police will issue nckets on and after (hat late Licenses were due Jan 1st and penalties are now in effect CITY OF McHENRY WE ARE AUTHORIZED TO PERFORM New Car Warranty Maintenance Service ERNIE SCHOOLEY'S STANDARD SERVICE STATION 3522 W. " Our children are not teenagers today but they will be in a few years and we are concerned about the teen-agers of today and tomorrow. We hope that others reading this letter will feel as we do about this. "Lucille Waychunas "Kathleen Heber" TECHNICOLOR EAGLES Last spring excited Indians near Cass Lake, Minn., reported seeing eagles that were neither bald nor golden. They were red-tailed and purple. The birds were snared and painted last year on the Union County Waterfowl Refuge near Ware by Frank Ligas ofTavernier, Fla., a research biologist with the National Audubon society. Ligas is trying to determine why the bald eagle population is declining. The markings, which may be seen for more than a mile, aid in determining the eagles' travelling habits. The birds' nesting success has decreased and there is indication that DDT, which accumulates in fish and "is then ingested by the birds, may be responsible.
