The booklet is a combined effort of the state office and the American Legion "Need a Lift" program to make the most current guide on financial help available to students. Lists of candidates for state colleges and universities are being compiled by county superintendents of schools and will be submitted to the state office this month. Candidates are selected according to class rank. The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction make available, through the legislature, teacher education scholarships, which can be used at any state-supported, four-year college of university in Illinois. Students receiving teacher education scholarships can continue to receive this financial assistance for four calendar years as long as they continue to prepare themselves for teaching in the public schools of Illinois. Students in all recognized public, private and parochial high schools maintaining the twelfth grade are entitled to scholarships base on enrollment. Basically the qualifications tor the scholarships are: After seven semesters, the student must rank in the upper half of his class; signify in a letter to his principal his intentions to prepare to teach in public schools in Illinois. Scholarships are granted to high schools on an enrollment basis. Minimum grants are five scholarships to schools of 500 or less enrollment. An additional scholarship is granted to schools on the basis of one scholarship for every 100 students over 500. Scholarships to junior colleges (2 years) also are awarded on an enrollment basis. Schools under 500 are entitled to four* scholarships; schools with 500 to 1,000 enrollment are entitled to five scholarships and schools over 1,000 students are entitled to six scholarships. Five hundred adult education scholarships and 250 special education scholarships alsoare awarded each year by the state department. AREA STUDENTS END TEACHING REQUIREMENTS More than 500 Northern Illinois university students are presently completing student teaching requirements for state certification for teachers, according to Dr. Max Huebner, student teaching director. Among them are Brendan R. Clove, 1509 Beach road, at DeKalb school, and Gail Parks,. 5416 Euclid drive, Churchhill school, Palatine* Here Apd There In Business _ TELLS RETIREMENT Wed. BROUHAHA OPEN HOUSE Something new, called Brouhaha, is about to happen in McHenry. In France, brouhaha means hullabaloo, uproar or hubub'. In McHenry, Brouhaha means a total California look in junior and petite sizes at moderate prices. The new store opens for business on Friday, May 23, but on Thursday evening, May 22, from 7 p.m until 10p.m., Brouhaha will hold open house to introduce the store, the staff and the fashions to the public. Allan Leibsohn, president of Brouhaha Limited, notes that the new shop has already created much interest in McHenry. Job applicants began coming in even before the shop advertised for help, he said, and he's been deluged with inquiries about the opening date. "Brouhaha will offer the shopper a total look," he continued, "which is also unique among boutique-type shops in this area. A woman will be able to shop Brouhaha and come away completely outfitted in shoes, sportswear, partywear, outerwear, jewelry and other accessories", explained Leibsohn. "And finally, our presentation is like nothing you've seen before. The lighting, the carpeting, the racks and display areas, the textures and the colors were all chosen to create a completely new and exciting showcase for fashion. "Better than trying to describe it, though, is to have the public to see for itself. That's why we're having the open house Thursday evening, May 22. Everyone' s invited. There will be no sellingthat night...just browsing from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m." The store is located at 1220 N. Green street. ON DEAN'S LEST Charles J. Sherman, a 1963 graduate of McHenry high school, has been named to the Dean's list at Illinois Institute of Technology. Sherman is majoring in mechanical and aerospace engineering.
