MICHAEL CONWAY LEONARD STUDIO PHOTO Miss Baseley Lovely Bride A wedding of beauty was solemnized in St. John's church, Johnsburg, on Saturday, May 31, when Miss Toddi Baseley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. ClaUde A. Baseley of 3806 W. High street, McHenry, became the bride of Mr. Michael D. Conway, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Conway of 58(J4 Woodland, McHenry. Rev. Fr. Paul Burke officiated at the 3 o'clock afternoon rite. Pretty Miss Baseley chose an empire gown with Juliet' sleeves, floor length, of imported Swiss cotton. Her veil was of pure silk illusion, imported from England, featuring small flowers in a feathered look to frame the face, highlighted by a cameo in the front. Attending her were Jennifer Kuhlman of McHenry, a friend, Mrs. Marvin Donarski of McHenry, sister of the bride, and Suzanne Shields of Woodstock. They wore light blue, imported Swiss cotton, floor length dresses with short, puff sleeves appliqued with white daisies. Small Kelly Rogers of Mundelein, cousin of the bride, as flower girl, was attired the same as the adult attendants. The bride's dress and those of her attendants were made by Mrs. Patricia DeBuck, Miss Baseley* s sister. Harold Frett of McHenry served as best man and groomsmen were Ray Olszewski and Keith Jensen, also of McHenry. Gary Baseley, brother of the bride, and Tom McCormack of McHenry were ushers. Bobby Baseley, the bride's nephew, was ring bearer. Mrs. Baseley selected a yellow shantung coat and dress ensemble with matching accessories. Mrs. Conway wore a beige moire dress-coat ensemble, also with the same color accessories. A reception followed the ceremony at the Johnsburg Community club for 250 guests. After a few days spent in Chicago, the newlyweds left for Iowa, where they will make their home at 2423 Brady street, Davenport. The bride is a 1968 graduate of McHenry high school. Her husband graduated from MCHS in 1965, attended college for one year and is now employed by Montgomery Ward in Davenport. Robert Mayfield Takes Bride In Hawaii Service In a telephone call Tuesday night to his relatives in McHenry, SP/5 Robert Mayfield told of his marriage that day to Marlys Krueger of Milwaukee, Wis., at an Army chapel in Hawaii. SP/5 Mayfield was on a R/R leave from duty in Vietnam. After his return to that country on Sunday he will remain until January, when he will return to the states. Mayfield is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Schroeder of Warrenville, former residents of McHenry The McHenry Senior Citizens kitchen band made its debut at the club card party on Monday, May 26, to a thundering ovation, much to the delight of the members of the band, but mainly to their leader and director, Dolly Mazzarella, who has worked so hard in four practice sessions. Members of the band include, in addition to Dolly Mazzarella Eleanor Crawford, pianist; City Bethel Plans Tour Of Waterfall House On Sunday, June 15, Job's Daughters of Bethel 98, McHenry, invite the public to tour the famed Waterfall House in Dutch Creek Woodlands, Johnsburg. The young ladies in the bethel cite many unusual items to be found in the house, including African drums, clam shells from the Philippines, driftwood from Jamaica and unusual furniture covered with hides of wild animals. Tours will be continuous from 1 to 5 p.m. Signs will mark the route from Chapel Hill road in Johnsburg. The bethel suggests treating Dad on Father's Day with a trip through the house. Children under 12 are admitted free. Part of the fee charged to others will be turned over to an orphanage in Jamaica. n'* ' - , ^ \ & vx... DEBRA WALLACE ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED -- Mr. and-Mrs. James W. Wallace, residing at 3403 W. Skyway, McHenry, announce the engagement of their daughter, Debra Lynn.to Cpl. Richard A. Harrison, USMC. He is a 1967 graduate of McHenry high and has just returned from recent duty in Vietnam. He is presently stationed at Camp Lojeune, N.C. Debbie is a 1968 graduate of McHenry high and is employed as a dental assistant in McHenry. A June, 1970, wedding is planned. Family Outing Planned For PWP Families Parents Without Partners, Lake Area. Chapter 189, will meet at St. Mary's Episcopal church, 210 McHenry avenue in Crystal Lake, at 8:30 on Friday, June 6, for their regular meeting. Refreshments Friendship Club Meets On June 14 The Friendship club of the First United Methodist church will meet for the monthly potluck dinner and meeting cm Saturday, June 14, at 6 p.m., in the church dining hall. Hosts and hostesses for the evening will be Marie and Albert Mullere, Helen and Harry Lundy and Elsie and Walter Lange. The program will be given by Ruth and John Godtfredsen, and promises to be most entertaining and amusing. Plans for a summer picnic for the group will be discussed and officers will be elected. will be served. On Saturday, June 7, at 6:30 the adults will meet at Marti netti's restaurant in Crystal Lake for a fish fry, then continure on to Shady Lane theater in Marengo to see a play. There will be a regular meeting June 20 at St. Mary's church at 8:30. Group discussions and conversation will take place, with refreshments to follow. For a family activity, groups will meet at the Crystal Bowl in Crystal Lake on June 22 at 10 a.m. to go to the Milwaukee Zoo. There will be no meeting the first Friday due to the holiday. Several others belong to the band but were not able to play at this time. Full of additional enthusiasm because of the success of the first appearance, the group is now looking forward to playing for the Lakeland Park Women's club. The band members were very happy listening to the tape recording of their concert, and plan on adding additional numbers to their repertoire. Lake Woman's Club Prominent In May Parade Preparations for the Memorial Day parade in Wonder Lake began on Wednesday, May 28, at the home of Mrs. Francis Higgins, parade chairman for Woman's club of Wonder Lake. Mrs. Grant Ernst, Mrs. Donald Gerlitz, Mrs. Robert Karlson and Mrs. John Sorenson, Jr., cut large felt letters to sew on to four drape banners to be attached to the two parade cars. Three tripod posters were also constructed for the water safety program car. Mrs. Higgins served a j-efreshing luncheon to committee helpers as they worked through the morning and afternoon. At the scene of the Memorial Day parade on Friday, May 30, it was evident that the hours spent on the car decorations were well worthwhile. Hie two red convertibles were an attractive addition to the parade. In one car, driven by Donald Gerlitz, were Woman's club officer, Mrs. Grant Ernst, president; Mrs. Conrad Rupp, Jr., vice-president; Mrs. Robert Karlson, secretary-treasurer and Mrs. Donald Gerlitz, trustee. In the water safety program car, driven by Mrs. Francis Higgins, rode Mary Higgins, Red Cross instructor, Adele Marshall, her daughter, Debbie, and son, Mark. Lifeguards were Cheryl Elbersen, Kathy Gahagen, Diane Kurtz and Frank Howorka. Small packages of lifesaver candies were thrown to the children along the parade route. PLAINDEALER PHOTO Install New. Officers Of Home-School New officers of St. Patrick's Home and School association were installed in office last week. They include the president, Mrs. John Coughlin; Mrs. Mark O'Neill, vice-president for a two-year term; Mrs. Ashley Granger, secretary and Mrs. Richard Lindquist, treasurer, who lave one more year of a two-year term to complete. After a short meeting, the newly elected president appointed all her room mothers and committee chairmen who will help make her task as president much easier to accomplish. They will be responsible for supplying the refreshments at meetings, room parties during the different holiday seasons and many more things for which she may wish to call upon them. Many new ideas will be forthcoming. One of the newly instituted ideas will be night meetings only, to which both mothers and fathers are invited to attend. There will be only about five meetings throughout the school year unless something very important makes others necessary. Art Fair Aids McHenry Hospital Expansion Miss Gehrke Initiated In Phi Beta Kappa One hundred and twenty-eight students at Urbana-Champaign were initiated this spring into the University of Illinois Gamma chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, national scholastic honor society for students in liberal arts and sciences. Among them was Sherry L. Gehrke of 3212 Skyway drive, McHenry. Membership requirements in Phi Beta Kappa are the highest of any honor society on the Urbana campus. Membership is based on a 4.5 grade point average for second semester and graduating seniors, a 4.6 for first semester seniors and a 4.75 for second semester juniors (all on a 5.0 equals "A" scale). Students also must have a proper distribution of courses in the humanities, social Studies and sciences, and satisfy foreign language and residence requirements in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The U. of I. chapter is one of more than 160 in the nation. Phi Beta Kappa was founded in 1776 at the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va. Hie 1969 Country Art Fair will be the thirteenth presented by the Woman',s auxiliary to McHenry hospital. Through the years money has been raised for equipment, building programs and the special facilities maintained by the Woman's auxiliary gift shop and snack bar. With expansion a growing necessity, this project is foremost in the aspirations of auxiliary members. Individuals, organizations and businesses can have first choice in the selection of paintings, ceramics and other works of art by becoming a patron. To become a patron, participants can do so by sending a pledge check to Mrs. F.K.Johnson, P.O. Box 505, McHenry, 111. 60050. If patrons do not discover a work of art especially pleasing at the Patron's Day visit, the pledge will be refunded or it may be used as a contribution to McHenry hospital, said Mrs. Strom. The 1969 Country Art Fair will be held at the McHenry Junior high school. Beverwyk expects to display about thirty art pieces, many of them in acrylic. CARLA EBEL ENGAGED -- Mr. and Mrs. Albert Q. Ebell n of Genoa, 111., announce the engagement of their daughter, Carla Irene, to Richard H. Walter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Walter of Crystal Lake. The bride-tobe will be a June graduate of Genoa-Kingston high school and will attend Bryant and Stratton college, Chicago.
