Last year's production was so well received by Opera House audiences that this year the gay nineties melodrama "Dirty work At The Crossroads," by Bill Johnson is offered for another fun-filled evening. A talented cast frogn all parts of McHenry county has been working diligently under the direction of Don Barden to provide the whole family with lively entertainment. Three great Olio Acts will be presented during intermission - talented banjo players, a bevy of beautiful can-can dancers, and those harmonious barbershoppers. Forty-three girls were given special awards representing work accomplished during the past nine months. Eighty-four mothers and daughters were in attendance as club director, Mrs. Ruth Sveen, began the evening's activities with a word of appreciation expressed to club leaders. Mrs. Sveen- is a registered guide leading both Colonist (Junior high) and Explorer (High school) groups of the Pioneer Girls club. Gratitude was expressed to Mrs. Alita Robertson, registered guide and leader of the Pilgrim,, group (Junior age). Helpers in the club program over the past year have been Mrs. Marge Hansen, Mrs. Dorothy Cooley, Mrs. Joan Apel, Mrs. Hannah Braun, Mrs. Dee Damschroder, M*s. Sharon Nolan, Mrs. Dorothy Negley and Mrs. Ginny Spirk. Following a song time, awards were presented to the Pilgrim group by Mrs. Robertson. HONOR TEACHER Mrs. Stella Rortvet was guest of honor at a pot-luck sapper 'Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Wm. Watkins on N. Sequoia. Members of the fourth and fifth grade faculty and special teachers who taught for eight years in the Landmark building, before classes were discontinued there, attended and presented Mrs. Rortvet with a lovely gift. The work was done in connection with membership in the Art club, which meets daily with Mrs. E. Robel, pictured near Mr. Bush. Individually designed blocks were made and stitched together with bands of blue and white checked gingham, representing St. John's school, and bands of red and white, representing Johnsburg school. Herman Graef of Zion Lutheran church, McHenry, officiated at the nuptial rite last Sunday, June 8, at 2 o'clock in the afternoon which united in marriage Miss Linda Jean Cook and9 Mr. RbBert'L. Townsend. Mies Cook is the daugfctter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul R. Cook of 781 N. Indiana street, Elmhurst, and Mr. Townsend is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bertran Townsend of 5220 W. Shore drive, McHenry. The lovely bride approached the altar wearing a long, white, A-line gown of karate. It was fashioned entire line, the three-quarter length sleeves edged in Venice lace, and boat neckline. Hie large flowing fanshaped train was edged in Venice lace caught at the empire fay a bow of the same material. Her three-tiered ballerina veil of imported silk illusion cascaded from a bouffant bow of organza outlined in petals of lace and pearls. Miss Sharon Janet of Elmhurst acted as maid of honor and Miss Pat Kaszuba, also of Elmhurst, was bridesmaid. They were attired in full length, turquoise gowns with flowing skirts of georgette. The waist was caught with velvet ribbons of the same shade. Their headpieces were of matching colored net appliqped in tiny daisies. Joe Schulz of McHenry served as best man and Rick Cook of Elmhurst, brother of the bride, was groomsman. Ushers were Robert Leem and Len DeMerit. Mrs. Cook chose for her daughter's wedding a pink silk dress with coat of pink lace and matching accessories. Mrs. Townsend was attired in a blue silk knit suit with white accessories. Approximately 130 persons attended a reception at the Lakeland Park community house following the ceremony. The newlyweds will reside in the bride's home for the summer and then take up residence in DeKalb, where both will be seniors at Northern Illinois university. ^ LeRoy Smiths Surprised On 25th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Smith were surprised by a group of relatives and friends on Tuesday, June 3, the occasion being their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. An enjoyable evening was spent in visiting, a bountiful lunch brought fay the guests served and the honored couple presented with flowers and many other gifts among them a corsage for Mrs. Smith.
