igers Win 6-5 Squeaker Over Dundee McHENRY CONTESTANTS in the first proxy pro golf tournament held at the Mc Henry Country club last week are L-R: Dave Watkins, Mike Santi, Jeff Kuhlman, William Bolger, Nelson Adams and Bob Malpede. PLAINDEALER PHOTO JR The Johnsburg Tigers captured their first victory of the young season with a 6-5 squeaker over Dundee. It was a tight ball game all the way as Dundee opened with three runs in the first inning. The Tigers countered with two runs in their half of the inning, and followed this up with a three runoutburst in the second. All the runs in the game were scored in the first three innings, as the last six turned into a pitchers' duel. The man mi the mound for the Tigers was Tim Freund, who went the distance and picked 19 his first win. After a shaky start he settled down and pitched fine ball. Freund also helped his cause with two Hits. Two other Tigers also managed to collect a pair of hits. Jim Meyers and Dan Jamieson both banged out a single and a triple. It was a good team effort on the part of the Tigers, as they battled back from an early deficit. This Sunday, June 22, Johnsburg will entertain Naperville in a game starting at 1:30. Tell him the Sox are in a Flunky Division! Ho-Ho!! ***** Dear Smiths, Please don't mention the word cellar the way that great Cub team is going. They have been associated with that area too long. ft looks like Mama and Papa Smith have brainwashed all the little Smiths. Are they all Cub fans? You are doing better than we could do with our family. Mama Walsh always has had leanings toward the North Side. And mothers spend more time with children than fathers. Now, we have fears for our grandson. He is being brainwashed at a tender age. Did you see that picture on the sports page this week? That was a blow! Of course, the picture showed Kotalik Studio, but George phoned to ask if we hadn't made a mistake. Then Mike Brown called. He's the real culprit. Talk about sneaky. When we dropped in to the Plaindealer on Tuesday to see about the make up erf our page, everybody was too busy to talk to us. We asked for Gaylord to see about pictures. They told us Wayne was out to lunch and nobody had any ideas when he would be back. (He was pulling in the drive when we pulled out). We thought "Aw -- to hell with them" .. and went on our way. - When we picked up the paper, we knew why all the mystery. We must remember to do something nice for Mike Brown and our dear fellow workers on the Plaindealer staff for slipping that picture in our space. Then, we have to contend with our dear relatives, the Ed Blake family. They have our grandson, Brendan, taught to say everything but Sox. When we turned on the ball game recently (Yep We watch the Cubs) we heard Brendan yell, "Ernie, Ernie" Why should we call Petie? After all, our kindly feeling toward some of the most notorious Cub fans prevented vis fron*. even calling them when the Pi- , rates lowered the boom. ^ Stay loyal, you Smiths. Your Cubs need you in this hour of grief. And, thanks again for readin' and writin*. Yours, "S.I.H." **** One way to judge a person's character is to see how they act at a 4-way stop sign. ***** Please, parents, put some lights on those bikes or don't let the kids ride after dark. They whizz through stop signs without thinking. They do the same thing in daylight, but the driver has a chance before darkness settles. Here's a la£t minute addition from a fan: "As the days past "The Cubs sink to last "So be a sneaky fox "And switch to the Sox." Gaylord **** To Earl and Wayne: Laugh all you want - but just be sure that at the end of the season those smiles are still (Hi your faces when the Cubs are in first place!!! If the plants are in clay pots you'll notice that roots extend all the way out to the porous walls of the pot. That's because, roots must have air which they only get continuously in clay pots. Roots of plants in synthetic non-porous containers become ingrown at their center for lack of air at the walls of the pots. So, the 40 minutes saved cost him $1.77. The moral: take it easy and save.
