Parkview, was suddenly stricken with a heart attack while on his way home from work Thursday, June 19. He was taken to McHenry hospital where he was placed in the intensive care unit. His wife, Betty, informs me that he has now been removed from that unit and is improving, but he will be spending 2-3 weeks in the hospital. His room number is 305. Larry has been a very hard worker for our village, currently serving a term as village trustee, and has accumulated many, many friends. May I Join all of them in wishing Larry a speedy recovery. We'll be thinking of VILLAGE BOARD NOTES On June 18, President George Luto called the meeting to order with four trustees present,, Present were Monty Yates, Gene Huff, Allan McKlm and Larry Murray, with the absent members being Ray Lary and Bill Creutx. Gene Frost was sworn in as new trustee and was appointed to assist Allan McKim on the finance committee. Gene fills the vacancy left when Virginia Aalto resigned as trustee. A report was given by Road Commissioner Monty Yates on the condition of the roads. The report was the finding of Baxter and Woodman Engineering firm, who recently made a study of all roads in our village. The plans were approved and will now be put up for bids. Also the village is hiring someone to cut down high weeds in empty lots along the roads, which cause poor visibility or are nuisances. All committee members and inspectors have been issued their badges and identification cards to carry with them. Hie next meeting will be July 3, 8 p.m. at the beach house. McCULLOM LAKE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION NEWS FOr those of you who don't know what the McCullom Lake Athletic Association is, this is the fine group who organizes both Little League and the Babe Ruth team. The officers of the organization are Bill Gleeson, president, Bud Winters, vicepresident, Elaine Gleeson, secretary, and Dorothy Lorch, treasurer. Trustees are Eileen Klapperich, Helen Streske and Evie CHalleran. The Babe Ruth team is something new to our village this year. This is for boys 13 through IS years of age. Theyplay their games at the VFW in McHenry and compete against McHenry teams. The boys are under the capable directions of MikeDreher as manager and Butch Stacknick and Mike Benjamin as coaches. Nice things must be said about these three young man tulin rl(\nnto thnir time tO the boys of the village. Butch is a young single man, and Mike Dreher and Mike Benjamin are 4wo of our finest young school teachers, who certainly- must see enough of kids 9 months out of the year, yet they all find time to work with the boys in this very important part of their lives. TMs year the Little League teams are the Braves, Cubs and the Tigers. The coachers are John Klapperich, Braves, Ed Car on, Tigers and Len Jensen, Jr., Cubs. Let's get to these baseball games and show our support, both the little guys who play their hearts out, but also for the big guys to show them we appreciate what they are doing for the boys of the village. Speaking as a mother of a present Little Leaguer and three ftitureplayers, it's a groat organization to get Involved in. Get out of the house for a while and seelihfrgood things these boys can do!! The Tabala Shrine Temple moved the circus from Byer Field where the children from the village attended before, because of larger grandstands, better seating, and better parking. The date is July 24, time and place to load the buses is 5:30 at the beach. DAY TURNED FROM COOL TO COLD Jhe dreary, cold rainy day on June 22 couldn't dampen the spirit at 4904 W. Parkview, when Len and Gerry Jensen hosted a party in honor of daughter Darlene's graduation from McHenry Junior high school; Present for the occasion were Loren and Dee Goebel and children, Dick and Marge Moore and children, Gerry and Patti Sauter and children, Cliff and Nancy Ohlsen and children, Kirby and June Fish and children, Gene and Mary Freund and children, Harold and Calla Freund, Len and Shirley Jensen, Dave Freund and Jan Harris, Carol Freund and Jim Sciacco, Frank Koepke, Jeanette Wallace,Gary, myself and our boys, andof course Len and Gerry's other children totaling twenty-two chldren and twenty-six adults. Wow!!! Gerry really outdid herself with the most fabulous array of food, consisting of ham, chicken, salads, jelios. and the works. To top it off there were two cakes, one for Dar»s graduation, the other honoring Leu's birthday and the Senior Len Jensens' anniversary. Dar had already received her watch and money from Mom and Dad, and was terribly pleased with what she received at the party. A' great time was had by all with card playing and volleyball for the younger(?) set in the rain. It wound 19 late in the night with a good old fashioned "ice cube down the back" type game. Anyone who could separate kids from adults at this time deserves a prize. These kids may look small, but are they strong! And is that ice cold, BRRRM Pm still trying to decide if I feel younger because of all the activity, or if Pm lying to > myself about the noise I hear when I move. Oh Well! It gets your blood circulating again. It was a great day for all present, young or old! POPULATION EXPLOSION Friday, June 13, was not an unlucky day for Dennis and Phyllis Straumann when little Charlene Renee made her arrival. Charlene made her'entrance to the world at Memorial hospital for McHenry County weighing in at a hearty 9 lbs. 8% ozs. The welcoming committee at home consists of Sandra, 8, Deborah, 7, Jefc#- ette, 4, and brother, Dennis, 6. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Piotrowski, McCullom Lake, maternal great grandmothers are Mrs. Marie Piotrowski and Mrs. Mary Wasyleczka, both of Chicago. Paternal grandmother is Mrs. Wilma Russell, Minneapolis, Minn., and paternal great grandfather is Arthur Bellhoefer of Tracy, Minn. BIRTHDAY BEAT To start off this week I want to wish a special happy birthday to a very special lady I know in Woodstock. On June 28 my .Mom, Beatrice Holmes becomes 60 years young. ANNIVERSARY WALTZ Did I goof! My apologies to Gert and Bill Walter, who celebrated their twentieth anniversary on the twenty-fifth. Happy anniversary a little late. On the twenty-eighth the anniversary waltz will be playing for the Harold Vycitals and on the thirtieth for the Bill McDonalds, .and on July 1 it is 8 years of togetherness for Helen and Walter Streske. Happy anniversary to all. POPULATION EXPLOSION CONT. • Speaking of population explosion, the Morris family on June 22, contributed to it, with the birth of triplets. Our congratulations to our Mama cat Lightning and to Papa whoever he may be. Being her first litter it was a nervous and tense time for all concerned, but •Lightning came through like a "champ. Anyone who might be in the market for a pure black kitten in about 8 weeks, please keep us in mind. He displayed about forty paintings at the Country Art Fair in McHenry last weekend. Swim cesses are scheduled to begin July 8, July 22, and August 5. Youth swim instruction classes will be held at the Thunderbird Farm pool, Route 14 "and Three Oaks road in Cary, each morning of the two-week program. There are three hours of class time planned at 8:45, 9:45 and 10:45 a.m. Beginner swim instruction will be taught at all three times, and youth who are Minnow will be taught The tiny tot swim classes will be held at the R.H.
