"Y" Men's Club Members Host Soichi Mo^i SOICHI MORI Members and wives of Lake Region YMCA Vs Men's club were treated to a very special experience last week when a buffet dinner was held at the Harry Braun residence on Rawson Bridge road in Cary for Soichi Mori of Yokohama, Japan. Mr. Mori is a delegate to the International Association of Y's Men's club convention being held in Pittsburg, Pa. His itinerary includes a forty- day tour of the United States and Canada. Except for the con­ vention, Mr. Mori will be stay­ ing in the homes of Y's Men's club families, where he will have an opportunity to exper­ ience American daily life as it is lived and where his Amer­ ican hosts will be allowed to view Japan through a native's eyes. The Lake Region Y's Men received a token of brotherhood and appreciation from the Yoko­ hama club in the form erf mi- iature banner of the Japan club. An invitation was also extended to club members and their fam­ ilies to attend the Internal tonal Y's Men's convention in 1975 in Japan. ^ An entertaining and relaxed person, Mr. Mori pleased his audiences with remarks about his family, a boy, age 6, and a daughter, age 4, and his wife, and their envolvmerrt with the YMCA movement. Local Couple Wed Saturday Miss Jean Marie Hettermam was a radiant bride as she ap­ proached the altar Of St. Bede*s Catholic church, Ingleside, last Saturday, July 12, to meet her bridegroom Mr. Edward George Raske, Jr. Rev. Fr. Sheridan officiated at the 3 o'clock nuptial rite, for which the church was decorated with bouquets of white gladioli and pink daisy pomps. Spec­ ial music for the wedding in- Miss Parenti Lovely Bride Miss Dawn Marie Parenti exchanged wedding vows with Mr. Charles Bernard Miller on Saturday, July 12. Before the alta^ of St. MarVs Catholic church, decorated with cut flow­ ers of white gladiolas and yel­ low starbursts, the 9 o'clock Nuptial Mass was read by Rev. Urbaniak. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don­ ald J. Parenti of 5019 W. Or­ chard drive and the grown is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ber­ nard C. Miller of 2604 N. Shore- wood drive. A white organza empire dress with seed and tear drop pearl trimming and long sheer, puff sleeves was chosen by the love­ ly bride. A beaded pearl bow held the elbow length net veil in place. Acting as maid of honor was Mary Aalto of McHenry and the bridesmaid was Pat Froehde erf Lake Zurich. They were attired in mint green empire chiffon dresses with white flor­ al trimming at collar, belt and sleeves. The bride's sisters, Daureen and Denise Parenti, were the charming flower girls, and wore mint green cotton floor length dresses with mint green lace bell sleeves. Tom Miller, brother of the groom, was the best man and Richard Baumbeck, McHenry, groomsman. A brother of the bride, Ddwal't^arenti, was ush­ er. The mother of the bride wore a raspberry flowing chiffon dress with beading at collar and angel sleeves, with match­ ing accessories. Mr. Thompson, who formerly made his home here, is a broth­ er of Mrs. Smith and a nephew of Miss Martin. The attractive bride selected an eighteenth century, imported silk organza dress with alencon lace and pearls. Empire fash­ ion, it featured a chapel sweep effect with sculptured neckline, fitted bodice and wrist length sleeves. Hie detachable chapel length train was adorned with alencon lace motifs and a bow. Her nylon illusion, two-tiered bouffant veil fell from a peau de soie half hat crown, high­ lighted with alencon motifs and pearls. ^ John Gustek of Wonder Lake served as best man and grooms­ men were Steven Booker and Robert Lehr of Wonder Lake and Allen Jones of McHenry. Mrs. Hettermann chose a shocking pink, A-line crepe dress with matching acces­ sories Mrs. Raske wore a beige sheath "Shantung dress with lace coat and accessories to match. A reception at the Johnsburg Community clubhouse at 5:30 p.m. was attended by 350 guesta. The newlyweds left later for a trip north. Their home will be at 3615 N. Chapel Hill road. Attending her were Sandra Bowe\ and Maribeth Thompson of McHenry, Donna Raske of Wonder Lake and Patty Way- man of Arlington Heights. The matron of honor was at­ tired in an empire style chif­ fon dress with round neckline, long sleeves of chiffon and a brocade flower trim at the waist. Two long ribbons ex­ tended down the back. The bridesmaids were attired sim­ ilarly in aqua dresses. The ma­ tron of honor carried aqua daisy pomps with green stream­ ers and the other attendants had pink daisy pomps and green streamers. Hie bride is a graduate of Mc­ Henry high school with the class of 1969 and is employed in sec­ retarial work. The bridegroom graduated from MC-HS in 1967 and is serving with the Army. VISIT CALIFORNIA Mr. and Mrs. John Reed en^ joyed a recent trip to Lake Tahoe, Calif., to visit their son, Mike, and to become ac­ quainted with their new grand­ son^ who was welcomed home by four sisters. During their stay, they visited several night­ spots, including a performance of the Weik show at a well known club, Mr. Reed was raised in the same community of North Dakota as Lawrence Welk, which made the concert particularly enjoyable. The Reeds also visited the Ponder- osa, where the film "Bonanza" is made, and saw Virginia City. The tourists report that the new Highway 80 made "won­ derful travelling". Finals are July 31 at the McHen­ ry County Fair. y DON PEASLEY PHOTOS Preliminary Judging In Area Pageant "The closest race in the his­ tory of the Miss McHenry Coun­ ty Pageant" summarises the feeling of those who witnessed the preliminaries last week and observed the beauty, poise and unbridled enthusiasm of the De­ lightful Dozen! The" beauties-blondes, bru­ nettes, brownettes and one red­ head-appeared before the jud­ ges with apparent calm and ease, presenting the trio of jud­ ges with a pretty problem which must be solved at the finals on Thursday night, July 31. Hie McHenry County Fair grandstand will be the stage for the finals as it has been for the past twenty years, the Miss McHenry County Pageait will be the opening night attraction. Looking ahead to the next two weeks, the candidates will make several radio and television ap­ pearances. They participated in the V-J Day parade last week­ end and will be at the McHen­ ry Marine Festival this week­ end. They meet for final rehear­ sal on July 30, and then gather at the Farm Bureau building on July 31 to prepare for their grand entrance to the fair­ grounds at 8 p.m. on the eve­ ning of the contest. Mrs. Jane Neubauer, WREX- TV personality, was mistress of ceremonies for the prelimin­ aries. Orion Samite Is on, WGN- TV and WGN radio farm di­ rector, will handle similar du­ ties at the finals. A fashion show will be one of the added attractions for the grandstand audience. A bride's dress wilt be one of the fashion highlights. Sponsors were represented at the preliminaries along with members of the press, fair of­ ficials and committee mem­ bers. Mrs. Lyle Kleckner is contest chairman. Observations centered on' the "fresh scrubbed" look of so many can­ didates as t^ey radiated ex­ uberance that was genuine. They showed maturity with a con- ton of purpose--many are school graduates with car­ eer goals.
