Next was the Red Stole cer- SIXTH BUS TRIP IN "Y" SERIES SET JULY 28 The Lake Region YMCA will conduct the sixth bus trip in the series of eight for youth (ages 7 to 13) on Monday, July 28. The summer bus trips pro­ vide interesting activity and a full day's fun for youth who reside in the communities of Algonquin, Cary, Crystal Lake, Fox River Grove, Huntley, Is­ land Lake, Lake in the Hills, Lakemoor, Lake wood, Mc Hen­ ry, Oakwood, Ridgefield, Won­ der Lake, and Woodstock. Char­ tered bus transportation is pro­ vided for all trips at conven­ ient pick-up points in these areas. , "i The following is the destin­ ation and pick-up schedule for the July 28 trip. The destination of bus Lone Wolf is the YMCA hotel in Chicago, the International Sports core in Oak brook, and George Williams college in Downers Grove. The pick-up schedule lists Route 120 and Thompson road in Wonder Lake, 10 a.m. The estimated return schedule begins at 6:15 p.m. in Huntley and concludes at Route 120 in Wonder Lake at 6:50 p.m. The destination of bus Gol­ den Eagle is YMCA hotel in Chicago, International Sports Core in Oakbrook, and George Williams college in Downers Grove. The pick-up schedule is Mc Henry Junior high school, 10 a.m. and Island Lake village hall, 10:15 a.m. The return schedulellbegins at 6:15 p.m. in FotfTtiver Grove and con­ cludes at 6:40 p.m. at the Mc- Henry Junior high school. , The July 28 trip has room for additional registrations at all pick-up points as do the Aug. 4 and Aug. 11 trips. The destination of the Aug. 4 trip is an airplane ride at Gait airport and roller skating. The Aug. 11 trip, which will finish the summer series, will take a Chicago Northwestern train ride and then visit t^je Field Museum. v LEUKEMIA GRANTS Leukemia research grants totalling $267,000 were recent­ ly announced by the National Medical and Scientific Advisory committee of the Leukemia So­ ciety of America, Inc. Guest speaker for the chap­ ter night program was Grad­ uate Grand Regent Marie Sten- ger of Rockford Chapter 619. It is always an honor and plea­ sure to have one of the grand officers as a guest. There were other guests al­ so from the Rockford chapter, Elkhorn, Wis., Woodstock, Crystal Lake, Antioch, Des Plaines and Fox Lake. Refreshments were served by the College of Regents chair­ man, Olga Johnson, and com­ mittee. Augusta Frost and Marie Moseley of the Fox Lake chap­ ter received the special award. II EXPAND SERVICES -- In an expansion of mobile emergency canteen services into a six-county area outside of Cook coun­ ty, the Salvation Army has created a Metropolitan Area Ser­ vice Unit council with three new divisions, each including two counties-Lake-McHenry, Kane-DuPage, and Will county, Ill­ inois - Lake county, Indiana. Canteens similar to the vehicle pictured here will be purchased by service units in these coun­ ties, and will be housed by local fire departments, for use at fire and disaster sites. The canteens supply hot food and coffee, and other welfare services. These three newly formed divisions, in addition to three previously established divisions in Cook County, comprise the complete Metropolitan Area Service Unit Council. James Larkin of McHenry has been appointed county chairman and McHenry service unit chairman. Two things weri dis­ cussed. The forthcoming card party to be held in September at the Moose hall in McHenry. Also discussed was to have two guest speakers appear in Aug­ ust on the subject of so many young children using other i- tems besides dope to get kicks. Alma Hueckstaedt is trying to set up the dates when we could have the two speakers. It is shocking that our own homes hold so many items that the children arq using. The village will be holding a corn roast in August on the large beach to raise funds for the community fire building. Further details on this corn roast will be in later in this column. Quite a few trees have come down as a result of the storms in the ar.a in the last month and the ** ird is having an es­ timate of removing of trees on the village right-aways within the next month. Tavern and business license in the village are renewed. President Dick Hyatt and the village clerk Pat Morrison will be attending the Founders Day doings in Algonquin next month as representatives of the vil­ lage. • LADIES LEAGUE Held their social evening Wednesday, July 16, and bunco was played. Winners for the evening were Eunice Tobey, first, Jessie Corbett, second, Olive Corbett, third, and Vi­ ola Arbogast, fourth. Booby went to Sophie Paterson. Guest for the evening was Jenny Gi- anola. BACK FROM VACATION Butch and Sharon Colberg and children are now back home i after spending a week takinj|| in the interesting sights of th<?? state of Missouri. They spent a week camping at Schell Knob, Mo. They also spent a day tak­ ing in the sights at Silver Dol­ lar City. They watched the glass blower blowing glass, wood car­ ving and other things. They also took in the tour of Marble Cave. In talking with Sharon the only bad weather they hit was a thunder storm on the way down to Schell Knob, otherwise it was very hot. CITY SERVED ^ LONG AN DWELL BY "MR. McHENRY" Richard Bishop was called "Mr. McHenry" by Lowell Al­ bert Nye, editor of McHenry County, Illinois 1832-1968. Bishop served as a village su­ pervisor and president during the 1850»s, 60's and 70's. Be­ sides founding pickle factory in 1882, Bishop owned a wagon factory which could turn out six buggies per day. A native of Gainesville, New York, Bishop was born on Nov. 16. 1824. He came west to Chi­ cago at the age of 20 and then rode a stagecoach to Waukegan. He worked as a blacksmith in McHenry while acquiring a 1,000-acre farm and building his factories. In 1874, Bishop was engaged in banking at Wood­ stock. Interested in law, he was admitted to the Illinois bar. Hostess for the special meeting were Alma Huecksteadt and Pearle Stine- man. VILLAGE NEWS The village of Lakemoor held its meeting last Thursday, July 17. iTie roads covered by the M.F.T. (Motor Fuel Tax) are completed. The road committee will now take a survey of the roads of the village in order to make repairs on those not 'covered by M.F.T. At the same time they will make a survey for the possible addition of stree* lights where needed. Treasurer's annual report was given, it is published else­ where in the Plaindealer. Audit of the books has been completed and was accepted by the board. The board passed the garbage tax levy, which is also publish­ ed elsewhere in the Plaindealer, street and bridge resolution, and the tax levy ordinance.
