She resided at 5104 W. Maple Hillydrive. From 1939" to 1965, she as­ sisted her husband, Hugh, in the operation of McDonald's Tavern at McCullom Lake, and became widely known through­ out the community. The deceased was born Ap­ ril 7, 1902, in Chicago. Survivors include her hus­ band, to whom she would have been married fifty years next month; two grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. William (Margar­ et) Hatch of Zion, Mrs. Al­ bert (Mary) Kennenberg of Mc­ Cullom Lake and Mrs. Patrick (Theresa) Cunningham of Mc­ Henry; two brothers, Mathew Miller of Maryland and John Miller of Madison, Wis. Her only daughter, Ellen, preceded her in death, as did a sister, Gertrude Bonnema. The body rests at the George R. Justen & Son funeral home until Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, when Mass will be of­ fered for' Mrs. McDonald in St. Patrick's Catholic church, Mc­ Henry. Burial will be in All Saints cemetery, DesPlaines. JAMES W. THOMAS James W.Thomas,571* street, Richmond, died in waukee County General hospi­ tal on Aug. 9 at the age of 21[ He had formerly IhredinSprir drove. Born on April 5, 1942 in Woodstock, Mr. Thomas mar­ ried Dorothy Jane Jones, who , survives him. Other survivors include two sons, Kevin and Clifford; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Thomas; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Thomas, Tucson, Arizona; a sister, Mrs. Richard (Jud­ ith) Rydell, Richmond; and ma­ ternal grandmother, Mrs. Ar­ thur Oxtoby, Spring Grove. Employed by the Morton Salt company, Ringwood, he was a volunteer for the Richmond Fire department and Rescue Squad. He was also a member of the Grace Lutheran church; Lodge 1329 of the Loyal Order of Moose and the Legion of Moose. Visitations were held Aug. 1! in the Ehorn funeral home. Funeral services, with Rev. Lawrence Wick Officiating, were held Aug. 12 in Grace Lu­ theran church at 1:30 p.m. He was buried in Richmond cem­ etery. ALICE CEDERLUND Memorials in the name of Alice Cederlund, an Island Lake AWARD WINNING HOUSE -- This Polka-Dot Playhouse designed and constructed as a 4-H project by the Wonder Workers Babysitting Group of Wonder Lake, won an honors award at the recent McHenry County Fair in Wood­ stock. Two club members, Lee Ann Cristy and Kimberly Street, are pictured. Others who worked on the special project were Kelly Ga- hagan, Kim Gahagen, Susan LaGreca, Carole Cashin, Karen Nelson, Roberta Rasmussen, Lori Sturm and Project Leader Amy Street. OPENING DATE AT BIG HOLLOW SCHOOL CHANGED Opening date for Big Hol­ low grade school, 1405 S. Route 12, Ingleside, has been changed to Aug. 26 for grades one through eight. All kindergarten students will report to school on Aug. 27. „ Pupils attending classes on Aug. 26 will be at school by 9 a.m. This first day will be used for registration and clas­ sification. School will be dis­ missed at 10:30 a.m. The first full day of school will be Aug. 28. The re-scheduling of the first day was made, according to E.H. Taveirne, school superinten­ dent, to conform with the open­ ing day of Grant Community high school. On Aug. 27, registration fees should be paid. Any transfer pupils who have moved into the district since last spring or those who have not yet registered for kinder­ garten must, Taveirne says, contact the school immediately. Oak- leaf avenue, McHenry, is one of the 140 incoming freshmen at the University of Illinois, Ur- bana, who have been selected for membership in the univer­ sity band. - Young Vyduna, a saxophone player, auditioned before Guy Duker, assistant director of bands, formerly of McHenry, and other members of the fac­ ulty during this summer. All of the auditioned students were assigned to the concert band or to the first and second reg­ imental bands. The men who will play in the concert band and first reg- imerttal band automatically will become members of the march­ ing Illini football band. Some male members of the second regimental band also will play at football games. The new bandsmen will fill vacancies left by graduation last June. vjfc> Naa... Mrs. Cederlund is survived by her husband, Carl; a daugh­ ter, Mrs. Sylvia Donaldson, Terry Hill, N.J.; a son, Phil­ ip Strom; six grandchildren; and several brothers and sis­ ters in her home country of Sweden. Funeral services were held in the Drake and Son funeral home, Chicago, on Aug. 11. LAUREL L. BERGDAHL Laurel L. Bergdahl, aged 31, died on Aug. 7 at Mercy Medical center, Chicago. Born on Feb. 17, 1938, in Chicago. Mrs. Bergdahl lived with her husr band, Leslie, -at 1804 Elm street, Wonder I^ake. Her husband survives. Others include a daughter, Luanna,"liv­ ing at home; her {Jarents, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hall, Wonder Lake; and a sister, Mrs. Walter (Delores) Schimke, Harvard. Visitation was held at the George R. Justen & Son funeral home. Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the chapel, with Rev. Richard Wright officiating. Mrs. Bergdahl was buried in Woodland cemetery, McHenry. HURT IN FRACAS Robert L, Gilbert, 32, is in McHenry hospital following a fracas with his step-father, Emery Schoon, 5412 Hillside drive, McHenry. Gilbert is suf­ fering from a possible broken nose and rib bones. According to Gilbert's mother, Lucille B. Schoon, the younger man was knocked to the floor by her husband.
