Honor Judge Carroll At Notre Dame Club Dinner Service News Th^PoetsCoTTver_ FRI. SEPT. 12, 1969-PLAINDEALER The Notre Dame club of Mc- Henry county announces its an­ nual dinner party on Monday, Sept. 22 at Crystal Lake Coun­ try club beginning at 6:30 p.m. A feature of the dinner party will be a special tribute to Judge William M. Carroll of Woodstock, a 1915 graduate of the Notre Dame College of Law. Judge Carroll will be honored for his outstanding career as a lawyer, state's attorney, leg­ islator, trial court judge and appellate court judge. Club President Leo J. Pow­ ers of Crystal Lake states that the many friends and acquain­ tances of Judge Carroll will be made especially welcome in attending the party; invitations are being extended to the jud­ ges of the Circuit, members of the McHenry County Bar association, county and mun­ icipal officers, and the general public. Principal speaker will be Timothy P. Galvin, Sr., Notre Dame class of 1916, an Indiana lawyer who is a member of the lay board of trustees of the university. President Powers stated that new club officers-elect, John Orso of Crystal Lake as pres­ ident and John Corrigan of Lakewood as vice-president, will be installed. Reservations for the dinner party and dinner tickets may be obtained through the dinner chairman, Joseph Conerty, Jr. of Woodstock. Judge William M.Carroll was born in Hartland township and has lived in McHenry county all his life. He was educated in a country school and graduated from Woodstock Community high school in 1912. He prompt­ ly enrolled in the College of Law at Notre Dame and was awarded a Bachelor of Law de­ gree in 1915; later that year he was admitted to the Illinois Bar and commenced the prac­ tice of law. He served in the United States infantry during World War I. Later he served as a state representative and as State's Attorney of McHen­ ry county until he was elected to the Circuit court in 1945. Judge Carroll has two sons, both of whom graduated from Notre Dame: William M. Car­ roll, Jr., a practicing lawyer in Woodstock, and James P. Carroll of South Bend, Ind. PRIMARY DATE Illinois primary election day was changed to the third Tues­ day in March when Gov. Rich­ ard B. Ogilvie approved Sen­ ate Bill 770. In 1966 primary election day was changed from the second Tuesday in April to the second Tuesday in June. Annual sessions on the Gen­ eral Assembly would conflict with the June primary, pro­ ponents of the new change argued. SB 770 also amends the Election Code-,4o adjust voter registration dates to the pri­ mary.
