The McHenry band will furnish music during the trip. This is to be Known as special McHen­ ry day and that a capacity crowd will be on hand to make the trip. Mrs. Elizabeth Thelen Pich has issued invitations to at­ tend the formal opening of her new store, showing advanced styles of fall and winter mil­ linery. On Monday of last week Mr. and Mrs. D.A. Powers of North Crystal Lake entertained at a dinner party in honor of Mr. and Mrs. James McLaughlin and children of Wilksbarre, Penn., who were visiting relatives in this vicinity. Coach McCracken is out on the practice field every eve­ ning with his squad of hope­ fuls and is kept very busy teaching them the rudiments of the game. Coach McGiracken lost several old stars in Frett, Miller, Smith and Thurwell,but still has enough lettermen left around which he hopes to build a first class machine. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Sept. 14, 1944) Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pitzen have moved from the John P. Schaefer farm to their home in McHenry which they recently purchased. Bertina, Sr. M.Euberta, Sr. M. Edwardine, musician, and Sr. M. Oscar, housekeeper. Mrs. Anita Beckenbaugh is the new employee at the Ton- yan Construction company in West McHenry, replacing Miss Jean Schmitt, who has joined .the Waves. Principal Weldon Andreas announces the total enrollment of the Ringwood school is forty- nine children this year. This is a marked increase over last year. Among recent sales of prop­ erty are included the sale of the Kelter building, including the Immekus tavern and Tomka's Bar-B-Q, to Harold Miller and the McHenry Brewery to James Downs. A 4-H club dance for the ben­ efit of the ambulance fund will be held Sept. 15 at the recre­ ation hall Crystal Lake. Music by Joe Me'lin's Swingcopators.- TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Sept. 17, 1959) Both Mrs. Lester Bacon of McHenry and her daughter, Mrs. Diane Ballotti of Syca­ more, received top ratings at the DeKalb county fair held last weekend in Sandwich, 111. Mrs. Bacon received a blue rib­ bon for her summer hat, a copper tooling and her bart- lett pears, a second place rib­ bon for her winter hat and Northern Spy apples and a third on a group of cacti. Mrs. Ball­ otti won three first place a- wards for her cookie entries and two second place ribbons for candy. Congressman Elmer J. Hoff­ man this week announced his nomination for appointment to the four military academies for the 19G0 academic year, among them John Terry Kerr of the village of Sunnyside. Kerr's nomination is for the United States Merchant Marine acad­ emy for the class commencing in August 19^0. Miss Barbara Doering of Lakeland Park became the bride of Mr. Raymond Martin of Mc­ Henry in a lovely wedding cer- emdhy which took place in St. Patrick's church Sept. 12. Mrs. A.P. Freund is the grandmother of her thirty-first grandchild, a daughter, Kathy Ann, born to Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Freund of Crystal Lake at Memorial hospital, Wood­ stock, Sept. 11. The W.S.C.S. of Inglesidehas arranged for the appearance of Ann Varese of McHenry to pre­ sent her version of "A Broad­ way Musical Comedy Review." McHENRY WOMAN NEW CHAIRMAN PALSY ACTIVITY Mrs. Elena McClory of Mc­ Henry has been elected as chairman of the women's ac­ tivities for 1969-70 at the an­ nual meeting of United Cere­ bral Palsy ofIllinois,heldatthe Wagon Wheel motel in Rockton. Mrs. McClory, who has been active in sponsoring programs for charitable organizations the past several years in McHenry, will be responsible for the re­ cruitment of women's chairmen in each of seven area organ­ izations and will, in turn, re­ cruit county chairmen in each of the counties in the state. The objective of the campaign is to raise $100,000 for pro­ grams for the Cerebral Pal­ sied through special events to be conducted during June and July, 1970. On announcing her selection, Dr. John O'Neill, state pres­ ident, said "We look forward with concern and enthusiasm to the job which we are confident Mrs. McClory can accomplish in recruiting women to the cause of serving the Cerebral Palsied and raising funds for supportof programs for the handicapped. NEW MANAGER Essex-Costello Real Estate Co., announces that William R. Essex has been appointed man­ ager of the McHenry office at 3717 W. Elm. Bill, a son of Eddie Essex, president, is a graduate of Michigan State un­ iversity, where he received a B.S. degree while majoring in residential building. Since fin­ ishing sheool he has been em­ ployed by a building corpora­ tion, and for the last four years at a leading Savings and Loan in Chicago.
