"Light Up By Candlelight" Garden Club Program Theme KENDRA YEA KEY ANNOUNCE ENGAGEMENT ~ Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth C. Yeakey of Odessa, Texas, announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Kendra Kaye, to James Edward Morris, son of Mrs. Monica Morris of 5222 Orchard drive, McHenry. Miss Yeakey is a senior at Oklahoma Baptist university at Shawnee, Okla., with major in psychology and social work. Mr. Morris is also a senior at Oklahoma Baptist university and is a Baptist min­ ister. Upon graduation, they plan to attend Southwestern Bap­ tist Theological seminary at Fort Worth, Texas. He gradu­ ated from McHenry high school and lived at 5222 Orchard Drive before leaving for college. Dec. 22, 1969, is the date set for the wedding in the sanctuary of the First Baptist church, Odessa, Texas. "Light up and live a little by candlelight" is the motto of Woodstock and Kishwaukee Val­ ley Garden club members as they announce the approaching program, "By Candlelight", in the Woodstock Opera House at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3. Offer Christmas Crafts Class At Program Center Registrations for the Lake Region YMCA's Christmas Crafts class, which will be conducted on four Mondays in November, continue to be ac­ cepted at the YMCA Program center at 95 Grant street, Crys­ tal Lake. The class will offer women an opportunity to get a head start on plans for Christmas and get group instruction in handicrafts. Four projects are planned. They will include gifts for children, gifts for adults, Christmas decorations and gift wrapping. The class will meet at the Program center at 95 Grant street, Crystal Lake, on Nov. 3, 10, 17 and 24 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30a.m. There will be a limit of twenty-two participants, so early registra­ tion is encouraged. Mrs. Mar­ ion Lanyon of Cary is the in­ structor. The fee includes all ma­ terials, but participants will be asked to bring certain tools. Registrations should be made at the YMCA office before Mon­ day, Nov* 3. SOCIAL SCENE St. Clara's Court Planning Halloween Party St. Clara's Court, No. 659, held its Halloween pot-luck on Thursday, Oct. 23, with thirty- five in attendance to enjoy a variety of delicious dishes. The Forester party will be held Oct. 30 in St. Mary's all- purpose room from 7 to 9 p.m. Open "Holiday Village At Crystal Lake All shoppers are invited to the opening of "Holiday Village" on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 9 a.m. The doors will be open until 9 p.m., and the snack bar, stocked with a delicious variety of refreshments -- will be open all day. Members of the Women's So­ ciety of Christian Service of the First United Methodist church of Crystal Lake are sponsoring the affair, their 1969 holiday bazaar, in the church building, at Crystal Lake and Dole avenues, Crystal Lake. Bake Sale To Aid Handicapped A bake sale will be held in the First National Bank of Crys­ tal Lake plaza starting at 9 o'clock Saturday, Nov. 1, spon­ sored by the McHenry County Parents of Physically Handi­ capped, Inc. All proceeds will be used for the children in the Crystal Lake high school P.H.D. classroom and the grade school, located in a special room in North school. All handicapped children from McHenry county attend these classes in regular school session. For the program they have secured Helen Henry, a candle expert, who has been designing unusual candles for fifteen years and whose program is in demand all over the United States. Mrs. Henry of Aroma Park, 111., contends that candles add a touch of eleg: -v.;e to a home any time of the year but are especially popular during the Holiday Season. On display will be more than 100 candles designed and ^rafted by the speaker. Mrs. Henry said she began with milk cartons and parafin but now uses special molds, slabs of wax and many unique processes to create the unusual decorative candle for special occasions. MR. AND MRS. ALBERT KEMPFER MARRIED -- A pretty bride of August was Miss Rosalie Siero- slawski, who exchanged nuptial vows with Mr. Albert Kempfer in a double ring ceremony performed in St. Laurence Cath­ olic church, Elgin. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Sieroslawski of Elgin and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kempfer of Genoa, 111., formerly of Mc­ Henry. The newlyweds are making their home in DeKalb. The bride is a graduate of Larkin high school, Elgin, and was em­ ployed as secretary to the dean of student services at Elgin Community college. Her husband graduated from McHenry high school, served four years in the Navy and later attended Elgin Community college. He is employed at Driv-Lock, Sycamore. After giving the history of candles and demonstrating can­ dle craft, Mrs. Henry lectures that she has no patience with women who are alone and feel sorry for themselves. Her home is ample proof of what a hobby can develop into. She has can- die - laden ^tables in every cor­ ner--no two candles alike. Because this is a project in­ itiated by the ways and means committees of the garden clubs they are offering for sale can­ dles, trims, wrappings and homemade cookies. New Member Dinner Set At Church A new member dinner will be held at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church, 404 North Green street, McHenry, on Sun­ day, Nov. 2, at 6 p.m. for thirty new members received into the church on Sunday, Oct. 26. Dr. Jerry Lingeman will co­ ordinate the dinner which will include brief presentations by James Boyer, Michael Benja­ min and Fran La me rand, who will represent the various com­ mittees from the church coun­ cil. Church President Wally Schultz will welcome the new members in behalf of the con­ gregation. The new member dinner and fellowship hour will include a sing-along and pro­ vide an opportunity for the new members to become better ac­ quainted with each other and the church program, according to Pastor Roger W. Schneider. Johnsburg road, McHenry, was married to Mr. Christopher Wirtz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Wirtz, 1508 N. Freund avenue, McHenry, in a lovely ceremoi\y solemnized Saturday, Oct. 4, in St. John the Baptist church, Johnsburg. While the bridegroom is serving with the Army, the new Mrs. Wirtz will reside with her par­ ents. Diane Maziarka Wed Friday In Candlelight Rite Miss Diane Maziarka was a lovely bride last Friday, Oct. 24, when she approached the altar of the Gages Lake Bi­ ble church, to become the bride of Mr. Howard Haynes, Jr. of Lake Villa. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jo­ seph Maziarka of 603Columbus drive, McHenry, and her hus­ band is the son of the Howard Haynes of Lake Villa. Rev. William Timme officia­ ted at the ceremony, for which special music was offered by Mrs. Betty Christenson, with "Because" sung by Irwin Clark. The nuptial rite was per­ formed by candlelight, with an organ arrangement of autumn flowers. Miss Maziarka wore an in­ formal white dress with white veil, white satin shoes and a corsage of baby roses. Her only attendant was her maid of honor, Joann Cooper, foster sister of the bride, who was attired in a mint green dress, accessories to match and a rose corsage. Michael Haynes of Lake Villa served as best man. Mrs. Maziarka selected a a -g>e-̂ ax3v̂ »̂ a fti/amn three-piece brown suit and matching accessories and Mrs. Haynes wore a three-piece blue suit and brown accessories. Both had corsages. A reception followed the cer­ emony at the church hall for 150 guests, after which the couple left for a trip through the northern states. They will make their home at 604 Co­ lumbus drive, McHehry. The new Mrs. Haynes is as­ sistant manager at One-Hour Martinizing, McHenry. Her husband is employed by Kendall Carpet Service, Waukegan. Both attended Grayslake high school.
