UNUSUAL CHURCH The church building in Acoma, New Mexico, is unusual in several respects. All mater ial was carried to the top of a 360 foot butte by human mus cles--beams 40 feet long and 14 inches square were carried by men from 30 miles away, over rough terrain--material for walls up to 10 feet thick and 60 feet high were carried up the 360 feet, largely by wo men. Later, the> plan to repaint them so that they will be appro priate to the study of Indians. David Spencer and Lee Griesbach, class members, described the process in this way: "When we first start ed tn make our masks our teacher would put a piece of cloth over our heads and cut out the eyes and nose. Then we put tape over the cloth to make the mold. Theh we mixed paper mache and put about five layers of it and one layer of paper towels to make it smooth. Then we let it dry so it would harden. A partial fire detection and automatic sprink ler system is included.
