Public Aid Director Harold O..Swank said that a decrease in general assistance was off­ set by increases in assistance to the aged, blind or disabled and aid to dependent children programs. Total August expenditures were $45,417,899, an increase of $1,143,945 over July and an increase of $9,792,880 over August 1968. Current expendi­ tures include $1,189,734inpay­ ments for foster care, aid to the medically indigent in Chi­ cago and C icero, and burials. The 61,818 persons eligible for medical assistance only, down 334 from July, are includ­ ed in the trends of the indi­ vidual programs which follow. The August cost was $6,304,- 512". The aid to dependent children program served 364,718 per­ sons in August, an increase of 4,471 over July and 45,38!) high­ er than in August 1968. The caseload for McHenry county was as follows: Total, all programs, 907., $100,674; old age assistance, 188, $33,- 672; aid to dependent children, 506, $37,334; blind assistance, 3, $451; disability assistance, 99, $24,944; gnd general as­ sistance, 111, $4,273. VICTOR C. FREUND Victor C. Freund, whose wife, Martha, lives at 1005 N. Green street, McHenry, was promot­ ed to Army Specialist 5th class Sept. 9 in Korea, where he is serving with the 7th Infantry division. Spec. 5 Freund is in Head­ quarters Company command, General Motorpool, at Camp Casey, Korea, where he is an assigned driver for Brigadier General Maness. He entered the Army in May, 1:968, spent eight months with lus^wite at 'Fort Bragg, North CarbKrta, and ar­ rived overseas in April of 1969. The twenty-five year old sol­ dier is a graduate of Marian Central Catholic high school.
