V G RANDMA EZ • • • Things hev come to a purty pass, when so many youngsters indulge in the destruction o* other folks property. In all my life, I never heard o* so much destruction, stealin* and mis chief, involvin' young kids, of Invitation To "Y "-Warrior Club Extended Lake Region YMCA Nation Chief Frank Pease announced that the Y-Warrior club is ex tending an invitation to all fourtlji fifth and sixth grade boys aind their dads, who reside in the Vs fourteen-commun ity service area, to join a Y- Warrior club. The program stresses the companionship of fathers and sons. It aims to help the boys continue to grow in assuming responsibility, with the father there to guide and encourage when the need arises. Tribal meetings are held twice monthly in the homes of members. Periodic spec ial events are planned. The Indian lore theme that has made the Y-Indian Guide program so appealing is continued in Y- Warriors but on a more so phisticated level. Adventure is the key to all programs planned for both fathers and sons. Ar eas of interest which are in cluded are nature lore, safety, science, outdoor activities, sports, and civic. Present nation officers from McHenry are Andy Knackstedt, Wampum bearer. Additional information is a- vailable by contacting Phil Sprinkle, YMCA youth direc tor, at the Lake Region YMCA, 95 Grant street, Crystal Lake. ages to be under parental con trol. Sure is a shame t' besmirch the term "teen-agers", wi' the kind o' conduct which some younguns, in their 'teens, 're displayin*. They don't seem t' realize thet the reputation they're a buildin', in the minds o' the community, will follow 'm about fer the rest o' their lives. Folks fergive, but they don't ferget, and they alius re tain a feelin' o' mistrust fer the ones who git inter trouble when they're young. I know folks, who never is sued punishment fer anythin* the kids might o' done. They wuz allowed t' take the mother's purse, helpin' themselves t' • money, or anythin' they desired, wi' jist a mild reprimand from th6 parents. They wasn't taught t* ask fer anythin'. They jist took what they wanted. Con sideration fer adults, respect fer advice from parents or ol der folks wuz made fun of, and excused by the parents, as just a phase they wuz goin' through. I feel sorry fer the kids, 'cause wi'out trainin'these kids hev grown up t' disregard an ordered society, an' don't know how t' live in it. They don't seem t' know how f protest anythin', in an orderly, dig nified manner. What they want they take, and it is surprisin', but they hev developed a way o' thinkin' that their desires, and way o' livin' is okay, as long as they may do as they please. It's rightencouragin',though, t' know of the thousands o* wonderful young folks, engaged in tryin't' fit themselves inter a society fer the betterment o' mankind. These good kids represent the bringin' up that will help t' make tfee world a better place. Perhaps, they may have z hand in correctin' the wrong road the delinquents have sought t' travel. It's plumb amazin' how smart young folks are, t'day, and they hev so many advantages over what we had, in days gone by, when I wuz young. But the bringin' up that we had cain*t be improved, but may be complimented wi' the modern knowledge and access t' enlight enment, settin' the stage fee a better society than we've ever had. The adverse tactics, repre sented by so many young folks, can lead us right back t' the jungle, where our very lives 're in danger. Maybe it ain't too late t' make amends. In order t' survive, man needs an or derly society. Grandma Radtke. Community CUB -sLCD4X NUTK CUB PACK 131 The Webelos have started bowling every second Saturday of the month at 9 a.m. This past week the boys showed up early and enthusiastic. The two high bowlers of the day will be team captains for the year. Danny O'Brian is captain of Team One. His members are Tony Balchunas, Skip Bellon, Mike Fink, Mike Smith and Dave Wilkey. The boys on Team Two are Mike Kulk, captain; Jeff Flicek, Chuck Foreman, Tom Kellner, Mike Kilgore, Gene Potter and Kurt Walters. After one day of bowling, Team One is ahead. Some of the boys have previous bowling exper ience while many of them are honest-to-goodness beginners. It will be interesting to see the progress these boys will make. Saturday, Nov. 15, will be Scout Family Bowling. The Scouts and their families will start at eight a.m. at Tomasel- lo's. This particular activity was a favorite last year. Any one who can make it that early deserves a good time. 24x72-1mh RUG RUNNERS *1" Multi-colored strip pattern in cut-loop pile. Latex back. Hugh Johnson, University of Illinois Extension poultry spec ialist, explains that such tur keys do not need basting be cause they have been injected with butter or vegetable oil. As the turkey cooks, the butter or vegetable oil oozes out, e- liminating the need for added basting. YESTERDAY'S ARMISTICE - Men and boys of the McHenry community, happy smiles on their countenance, march up a rough Waukegan road fifty-one years ago to proclaim to every one that the armistice had been signed.
