Mary K. Schmitt ^Surprised On 90th Birthday Miss Mary K. Schmitt was honored at a surprise party on Saturday, Nov. 8, to celebrate her ninetieth birthday. The guests were served a turkey dinner with all the trimmings at a local restaurant. Rt. Rev. Msgr. Schryer, pastor of St. Joseph's parish in Elgin, Jo­ seph Schryer and Mrs. Hazel Minson of Sterling, and Mrs. Gertrude Sondgeroth of Med- dota, friends of Miss Schmitt, made the trip to Johnsburg to help make her day complete. Relatives who attended the dinner included Mr. and Mrs. Joseph S. Schmitt, Mrs. Math Schmitt and Mrs. John Lay and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Freund. A beautiful cake was baked for the occasion and served to top off a most delicious meal. Bode. Rev. Fr. Eugene Baumhofer offic­ iated at the 11:30 nuptial rite. Miss West is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley A. West of 3001 Mary Lane, McHenry, and Mr. Bode, a resident of 10482 Doris court, Rosemont, 111., is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Bode of Cedar Rap­ ids, Iowa. Bouquets of mums and glad­ ioli decorated the altar. Given in marriage by her fath­ er, the pretty bride chose a velvet and Venice lace, em­ pire fashion, chapel sweep gown. It was styled with polo collar, fitted bodice and long wrist length, angel sleeves. Her detachable chapel length train was bordered in Venice lace. The nylon illusion, two-tiered chapel length veil and blusher fell from a velvet Came lot bon­ net crown, highlighted with Ven­ ice lace. John Reese To Claim Bride In December Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Walk- up of Crystal Lake announce the engagement of their daugh­ ter, Pamela, to John Reese, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Reese of McHenry. Miss Walkup is a graduate of Crystal Lake high school and will complete her studies at Elgin Community college in June. Mr. Reese graduated from McHenry high school and Coe college in Iowa. He is program coordinator for the Pioneer Center for the Exceptional, Mc- Cullom Lake. A December 20 wedding is planned. Family Night Special Planned For "Y" Members Family members of the Lake Region YMCA are being invited to attend the first fall Family Night special on Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Elgin YMCA. The evening's activities will be planned around swimnr.ng, gym and family sociability. Partic­ ipants will meet at the Crystal Lake Plaza mailbox at 5:45 p.m. for the trip to Elgin. Each fam­ ily must arrange for their own transportation. The activities will conclude at 9:15 p.m. Family members who reg­ ister for the family night spec­ ial may elect to swim all eve­ ning or use the gym for the en­ tire evening, or they may par­ ticipate in any combination they wish. Koresch, O.D., F.A.A.O., will give a talk on visual read­ iness. Dr. Koresch graduated from the Illinois College of Op­ tometry in 1955. He spent one year at the University of Indiana in post graduate work. Dr. Koresch also spent one year at Gesell Institute of Op­ tometry at Yale university in New Haven, Conn., where he did research in infant and child de­ velopment. He had spent three years as an officer in the army working In optometry. Dr. Kor­ esch now resides In Lake Gen­ eva, Wis., with his wife and three children. There will also be a musical presentation by several chil­ dren from each of grades first through fifth. These children will demonstrate the general music program being taught to elementary school students. The evening will conclude with the serving of refresh­ ments.
