This event is open to the pub lic and will be of interest to young and old. > Medical Aides Wil l Hear Talk By Dr. Phil l ips The McHenry County Medical Assistants association will hold its monthly meeting at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at Memorial Hospital for McHenry County. Guest speaker for the evening will be Margaret Phillips, M.D. and cardiologist at Kishwaukee Valley Medical Group and Mem orial hospital. All medical assistants are in vited to attend. TURKEY TIPS As the holiday season ap proaches, homemakers might take time to review some tips on buying and preparing tur key. The U.S. Department of Ag riculture Consumer and Mar keting Service offers these sug gestions: --Look for the USD A shield. It tells the grade or quality of the turkey and may be found on the label or a wing tag. --Select by grade. The high est quality is U.S. Grade A. Such birds are fully fleshed and meaty, well finished and at tractive in appearance. Grade B birds may be less attrac tive in finish and appearance and slightly lacking in meatiness. Poultry must be federally inspected for wholesomeness before it can be graded for qual ity. You will often find the in spection mark and grade shield displayed together. --Select by class. The age (class) of the turkey indicates how tender the bird is. Young turkeys are more tender than older ones. If the bird is not young, the label will carry the words "mature," "yearling" or ' old" turkey. 4 --Keep frozen turkey hard- frozen until time to thaw, and cook promptly after thawing. --Give special attention to care and cleanliness during preparation, cooking and ser ving since turkeys are highly perishable. --Completely cook turkey at one time. Never partially cook, then store and finish cooking at a later date.
