An other is Leader Dogs for the Blind, Rochester, Mich. Leader Dog will receive $125,000 out of the $600,000 raised. It costs $2,$00 to. train a dog and mas ter and this is furnished without cost to the blind person. Next summer 300 visually handicapped children will en- < joy i two weeks' camping per iod at Illinois Camp Lions. Candy Day helped underwrite the $125 It takes per child per session, with $45,000 set aside for this project. Candy Day proceeds also pay for an unlimited number of sub scriptions to "Dialogue",rere corded magazine. Each sub scription is $50. Just recently the Lions Clubs of Illinois presented the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness with a new $30,000 mobile glaucoma screening unit. Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of preventable blindness. In addition, cliibs give local scholarships for the young blind, buy canes, eye glasses, braille writers, and wrist watches. These people consider themselves black, and they are aU vaguely aware of black problems in the UJS. but they can't picture how it works. "Anyway, if you people can shape up my country, my life will be easier. You just can't believe how these people look to the United States as the ul timate in man's achievement. Due to the efforts of many young adults In the coun ty, this organisation has been one of the top groups In fond raising for many years. At a time when parents are over burdened, young people of the county have volunteered to accept their community respon sibility. Congdon, of Rt. 12, Rich mond, was slightly injured, but his passenger, Jim White, 7712 Deep Spring road, Wonder Lake, was more seriously hurt. They were taken to McHenry hospi tal by Wonder Lake rescue squad, where White was report ed In satisfactory condition the following morning. Congdon was treated and released. The latter told deputies he was travelling north on Won der Lake road when the other car came toward him in the wrong lane. Congdon said he stopped but the other auto crashed into him. He said he talked to the second driver and then called the sheriff's office. This Was the last Congdon saw of Duffey. _ In their investigation, depu ties learned that Duffey* s car had pulled into the yard immed iately after the accident and a man left the vehicle. Congdon told of walking to Duffey** house, although at the time he was unaware of the letter's i- dentity. Finding no phone, he went across the street to no tify the sheriff. In the mean time, the other driver disap peared. A check of the car registra- tion disclosed the owner to be Carl R. Duffey of 400 Virginia street, Crystal Lake, who was reported to be renting file Won der Lake home temporarily. The car was impounded until the owner and driver could be located. Randall P. Sutton of 1414 Suimyside drive, McHenry, was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident when his car crashed into a tele phone booth on Lincoln road, at Hansen Marine, Sunday af ternoon at 4:45 p.m. Although Sutton was unable to say just what happened, au thorities said evidence show ed tiie driver was travelling too fast to negotiate a curve. . Public Health Director Family ] Health Speaker MUSIN1>^MEANDE Rl N' (Continued from page 1) 1 . : ; / - y W ' rRI. JAN.2,1970- PLAINDEALFS - PG. 3 W.H. Tammeus, president of the board of directors of the Family Service and Mental Health Clinic for McHenry County, announced that the an nual dinner meeting will be held Wednesday, Jan. 14 at the Tim bers restaurant in Woodstock. Dr. Herbert Ratner, Oak Park, will be the featured speaker. Dr. Ratner, who fill speak on the subject of "Fam ily Life," is the director of the Oak Park Department of Public Health and editor of plomacy in his holiday note by telling us "the papers are look ing good", after which he got down to the real jSbint, "I miss you guyfe and your goodies at Christmas". From that point, he continued with suggestions for making each member of the staff happy, using personality traits he recalled so well even after a two-year absence. We want Ken to know we all keep reminding Photographer Wayne to "point that Mickey Mouse camera in the right di rection". That's why his pic tures are so good -- the gen erous advice of his friends. We miss Ken but appreciate the kind words that filled Ms Christmas card. McHenry came into the news this week through Capt. G.F. Markeson, a United Airlines pi- Child and Family Quarterly. The dinner will start at 6:30 p.m., followed by the annual re port of the clinic, election of members to the board of di rectors, and Dr. Ratner*s speech. Any member of the clinic or general public may attend this meeting by contactii* Gerald Pettera. lot who was credited for short ening the trip from Honolulu to 0*Hare International airport by an hour, according to air line officials. . The company record was broken when he made the trip, with seventy passengers and a crew of ten aboard, in six hours and fifty-nine minutes. The normal flight time is eight hours. On the morning after the turn of the year (not to mention th* turn of the decade), many folks will no doubt agree with the small card someone posted on .our bulletin boerd:^So far todsy I made only one mistake--I got out of bed."
