These should be treated as soon as possible, sponging them with a solution made from K-cup of salt to a quart of water. Follow with a sponging with a solution of one part ammonia to 20 parts of water. Best results are achieved when soonest applied. Q. How can I prevent milk from scorching so easily when it is being heated? A. By heating it in a pan that has been rinsed with water before the milk is added. Q. How can I repair or fill in cracks or holes in1 wood? A. You can do a very good job of this with a mixture of sawdust and resin glue. After this has dried, sand it smooth, and paint over it. It is best to use a very fine sawdust* stirring this into the glue until the mixture has the consistency of putty, then press it into the crack or hole, leaving it raised slightly above the surface. The mixture tends to shrink as it dries, and may not fiU the crack or bole completely unless a little excess is left. Q. How can 1 make a good soapless furniture wash? A. By adding three table spoons of raw or boiled lin seed oil and two tablespoons of turpentine to one quart of hot water. Mix well, and allow to cool. Apply this wash with a soft cloth well wrung out, covering a small areaatatime, and wiping each part dry as you proceed. Polish afterward. * Q. How can I eliminate the discoloration in a washbowl or bathtub made by a dripping faucet? A. These discolorations will usually vanish when a paste of cream of tartar and peroxide is applied with a stiff brush. Plain old vinegar is sometimes very effective, too.
