McHenry county's all-out rub-out cam paign^ whip rubella takes place, starting the week of Jan. 19. Parentk\can help by signing and returning the permit forms their children will bring home sometime next week. 100 Per Cent Sign-Up In Rubella Drive ! J With virtually 100 per cent sign-up by county schools as sured, McHenry county's all- qut rub-out campaign to whip rubella moves toward three diore stages. • Nursery school children are invited to participate, and more than a dozen of the nursery schools in the county have been notified by Ward Duel, adminis trator of the McHenry County Department of Health, about the availability of the free ru bella vaccine. - Secondly, each school district Superintendent has the option to include pre-school children at the time the vaccine is admi- i&tered to the children in kin dergarten through third grades. Duel advised that additional do ses have been made available, and will be provided to those schools who wish to participate and who have manageable fa cilities to include pre-school children during the ttmetof the scheduled visit by the state im munization team. The next step ahead will be for parents to sign permission slips which children will bring home with them about a week before immunization is plan ned in McHenry county. The im munization will take place some time during the week of Jan. 19, State Department of Public Health officials have notified Duel. _ _ The immunization program is carried out by the Department of Health and the McHenry County March of Dimes. The Depart ment of Health is aware of the urgency of this vaccination pro gram and has the know-how to distribute the scarce vaccine. The National Foundation-March at Dimes has provided consid erable sums for research in birth defects and is deeply in terested in conquering the dis- Health officials Visited McHen ry county last Friday, setting up the schedule and talking with Mrs. Eileen Hansen, R.N., ad ministrative nurse with the De partment of Health. The state will have four immunization teams at work in McHenry coun ty during the vaccination day all-out rub-out attack. Almost 12,000 children will be vaccinated, latest figures supplied by the Department of Health show. An additional sup ply of vaccine above the orig inal allotment of 10,000 doses has been obtained, available in part because a new supply suc cessfully passed production tests. Among details to be handled by local superintendents are procedures to be followed for morning and afternoon kinder garten classes since the tech nicians will visit each school only once. Woman's Classes Begin At YMCA Two women's programs will hold their first meeting of the winter quarter next week. These classes are yoga and knitting. Yoga lessons, which were »very popular during the tell quarter, will be expanded to include both beginning and in termediate levels. On Thursday mornings there is a beginner's class at 10 a.m., followed by an intermediate class at 11 a.m. The evening beginners' classes meet from 8 to 9 p.m., followed by the Intermediate class from 9 to 10 p.m. Yoga was developed in India thousands of years ago. There are eighty-four basic asanas, or postures, combined with deep I breathing exercises and con trolled relaxation. While ordin ary exercises affect only the muscular structure erf the body, yoga involves the entire organ ism-respiration, circulation, the endocrine system, nervous system, etc. Yoga enthusiasts are legion and their reasons for prefer ring this form of exercise range from simple weight reduction and body conditioning to the al leviation of asthma symptoms. Some other benefits of this an cient art include reduction of nervous tension, improvement for "bad backs" and arthritic stiffness, and a general upsurge of energy. There are nearly as many reasons for practicing yoga as there are enthusiasts. Some 20th Century Ponce de Leons even proclaim yoga the fountain of youth that will "freeze one's age." Teaching the eight-week be ginning class will be Mrs. Nan cy Roberts of Cary. Mrs. Rob erts has done advanced study with a Swami Vishnudevananda- trained teacher. Swaml Vish- nudevananda is one of the few authentic Indian gurus in North America and is the author of "The Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga", one of the most comprehensive and authorita tive books on the subject. The beginning knitting will be offered on Tuesday evening from 8:30 to 10 p.m. for la dies who would like to learn how to knit or how to improve their present knitting Skills. Mrs. Dorothy Woertz is the knitting instructor. 9 Ladies interested in enroll ing in the classes should contact the Lake Region YMCA by call ing 459-44SS _ _s>«----N Antioch - Country Club invites you to DINNER and DANCING ' Rubella strikes unborn ba bies, causing birth defects and deaths. When rubella infects a pregnant mother during the ear ly stages of her pregnancy, her baby may die--or may live with gross congenital defects. Vaccinating children 1-9 years old is the most efficient way to immunize the main carrier of rubella. Arrangements in the various school districts are being hand led by local superintendents fol lowing information from Duel supplied late last month. Symbol of the Old Year--a gnarled and dejected Father Time! As the New Year begins, we want to wipe the slate clean, we want to erase everything that has happened and start all over again. But stop and think a moment. Naturally, there were things in the past that we wish had never happened. There were things that we are sorry we had said and done. But what of the wonderful hours, the tender moments--the really good things? The best way to start a really "new" New Year is by going to church and taking ,a quiet personal look at yourself.
