Sixth graders at Edgebrook school are using the study of respective areas of study and received practice in formally presenting their topic to the class. ) , ., A Five students participated. Mark Herrmann, chairman of the panel, introduced the sub­ ject by briefly outlining Greek geography as it related to Greek political structure. John Boek­ er elaborated on the political structure by defining the mean­ ing of city-states and differen­ tiating between Sparta\ a mil­ itary state of almost fnodern dimension, and Athens, a democracy profferring cultured development. Scott Donarski described Greek military campaigns with emphasis on wars with Persia. Antoinette Weber talked about Greek culture. Greek art and literature were produced mostly in Athens, where dem­ ocratic freedoms were permit­ ted. As part of Greek culture, Theresa Schaeffer spoke on Greek religion, which is known as mythology. Their gods were super-hunjan beings and were often blamed for the acts of men, both good and 'evil. Of concern to all of us, Robert Lightner spoke on Greek Eco­ nomics. Their main crops con­ sisted of grapes, grain and ol­ ives. They traded with other countries. The Raymond Stilling Sr. Family 11470 Aid Caseload For October Is Announced Illinois public aid rolls reached 558,917 in October, an increase of 4,953 over the pre­ vious month and 55,343 higher than a year ago. Public Aid Director Harold 0. Swank said that all public aid programs increased except , blind assistance, which declined slightly. Total October expenditures were $46,060,153, an increase of $240,742 over September. Payments in October 1968 were $46,310,281. Current expenr w ditureft, include $672^322 in pay­ ments lor foster care, aid to the medically indigent in Chi­ cago and Cicero, and burials. The October caseload in­ cluded 426,146 persons on as­ sistance to the aged, blind or disabled and aid to dependent children receiving money grants and eligible for medical care; 61,984 eligible for med­ ical assistance only and 70,- 787 on general assistance. Re­ spective figures for Septem­ ber were 421,597, 61,601 and 70,766; for October 1968, 380,- 280, 55,698 and 67,596. The 61,984 persons eligible for medical assistance only, up 383 over September, are includ­ ed in the trends of the individual programs which follow. The Oc­ tober cost was $6,681,289. The aid to dependent children program served 373,556 per­ sons in October, an increase of 4189 over September and 45,- 748 higher than in October 1968. Expenditures were $24,067,421 in October, an average of $64.43 per person; $23,104,186 in September; $18,035,047 in October, 1968.
