There will be square dancing again, which was so popular last year, and those attending are asked to wear casual attire. Wolf Shadles Wed 50 Years • Mr. and Mrs. Wolf Shadle k(1. of Ringwood were guests of hon- or at a family dinner honoring v their golden wedding anniver- haven on the liner Europe In 1938 to make their home in America. Two weeks after their departure all emigration was stopped. They settled in the Johnsburg area, which they left in 1942 to move into their present home in Ringwood. Mr. Shadle is a retired em ployee of the Ringwood Chem ical plant. -x This lively couple has just returned from their four-week California holiday, during which they did much sightseeing and visiting. -aw sary on Dec. 23 at the home of h„, - a son, Paul W. The church ceremony was held at 4 o'clock, with Mrs. Hazel Ad- kins acting as sponsor for Deb orah. Brefeld Baby Is Christened • . The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James J. Brefeld was christened Laurie Ann in a bap tismal ceremony which was sol emnized Sunday at St. Patrick's Catholic "church. Rev. Fr. Mi chael Tiemey officiated at the service. Sponsors were Mr. and Mrs^ Thomas C. Wilson, grandpar ents of the baby, who wore the baptismal dress also worn by her mother, the former Mary Jo Wilson, and her five sf ters. A buffet luncheon was served later at the home of the parents. The paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Brefeld. esses. They were Chris Blunz of Aurora, Del Wisniewski of McHenry, Thaddea Sobik of Al gonquin, Darlette Freund of Mc Henry, Mrs. Vern (Sandy) Ihrke of Meadowdale and the matron of honor, Mrs. John (Catherine) Wirtz of Elgin. The home was beautifully decorated for the occasion, with a tasty buffet luncheon served by the hostesses to fifty rel atives and friends from Chi cago, Algonquin, McHenry and Johnsburg. Fred Schoewers Wed 50 Years An open house reception for friends, neighbors and relatives will be held from 2 to 5 o'clock Jan. 18, in the Legion ;, Ringwood road, honoring ! golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. FredSchoewer of 3106 W. Charlotte, McHen ry. An 11 o'clock Mass will be offered Sunday in St. Pat rick's Catholic church. Fr. Thomas King of Deerfield, cousin of Mr. Schoewer will officiate. Two members of the original wedding party are expected to attend, Hubert Schoewer, who served as best man, and Mrs. John L. May, who was maid of honor. Fred C. Schoewer,* son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter J. Schoewer of McHenry, and Elizabeth C. Klein, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N.C. Klein of CMcago, were1* married Jan. 21, 1920, in St. Gertrude's church, Chicago, by Rev. Luke Lyons. The couple has lived in Mc Henry all of their married life except for seventeen years dur ing which they resided in Wau- kegan while he was employed at Johns-Manville Co. He re tired eight years ago and the Schoewers returned to McHenry three and a half years ago. Mr. Schoewer is a veteran of World War I and is a fifty- year member of Legion Post 491, McHenry, which he served as commander in 1929 and 1930. He is now chaplain of the post. Other memberships include McHenry Barracks, 1315, World War I Veterans, and the Holy Name society of St. Pat rick's church. Mrs. Schoewer is a member and past president of the Al ter and Rosary sodality of St. Patrick's church, a member and past grand regent of Court Joy ce Kilmer, Catholic Daughters of America, past president of the McHenry County Legion auxiliary; also past president of the American Legion Auxil iary Unit 491 and past oracle of both Fox River Valley and DIANE HANNEMANN ENGAGED -- The engagement of Miss Diane Hannemann to Mi chael M. Schmitt has been announced by the parents of the bride- to-be, Mr. and Mrs. Frank P. Hannemann of LIbertyville. " DID YOU KNOW? Nearly three-quarters 6f the increased state appropriations for fiscal 1970 will be used for improvements in Illinois' edu cational and highway programs. A review of all 1970appropria- tion measures by the Bureau of the Budget reveals that $965 million, or 72 per cent of the $1.33 billion total increase ov er 1969 expenditures, is for hikes in state educational pro grams and vastly expanded highway construction activities. Seventy per cent of the total $4.4 billion state budget will be returned to localities in the form of school aid, health pro grams, highways and improved law enforcement, the review showed. Fried Chicken Favorite Always welcome on your dinner table, fried chicken is a fa vorite with the young and old alike. This recipe is especially good because of the tempting creamy gravy. Corn starch in the recipe insures a smooth gravy. Fried Chicken With Gravy Zz cup dry bread crumbs 1 broiler-fryer, cut up yz to 1 teaspoon rosemary 1 egg, beaten 1 teaspoon salt /2 cup corn oil Dash pepper 1 tablespoon corn starch ll/2 cups milk Mix bread crumbs, rosemary, salt and pepper. Dip chicken pieces in egg. Coat with crumb mixture.'-"Heat corn oil in large, heavy skillet over medium heat 3 minutes or in electric skillet to 375°F. Add chicken and brown on all sides. Reduce heat to low or 250°F. in electric skillet. Cook 30 minutes or until chicken is fork tender. Remove and drain on absorbent paper. Keep warm. Pour drippings from skillet into cup. Measure 2 tablespoons of drippings back into skillet. Mix in corn starch. Place over lpw heat or 200° tn electric skillet. Gradually stir in milk Stir ring constantly, bring to boil and boil 1 minute. Serve with chicken.
