• - ' t PG. 2 - PLAINDEALER- FRIDAY, JAN. 16,1970 Twice Told Tales FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Jan. 9, 1930) Harold Bacon has been ab­ sent from his duties at the West McHenry State bank for the past two weeks, owing to an injury to his leg received in a basketball game. S.W. Brown, proprietor of the Ringwood drug store, was held up and robbed at the point of a gun New Year's eve by a trio of bandits one of whom was masked. The others apparently were unarmed. Troop No. 1, Boy Scouts of McHenry is sponsored by the American Legion and Kiwanis club. Mervin L. Schoenholtz is scout master and Rollin D. Chamberlin reporter. Meeting opened with the troop repeating the scout oath and laws. Mr. Schoenholtz next told the scouts of a contest the patrol only can win. It is a contest of passing the tests necessary for ad­ vancement in the scout work. The patrol winning is to be taken to Chicago for a trip through the Field Museum. The patrol leading on Feb. 2 is going to go to Harvard or Elgin to the swimming pool. This contest will, end March 3. Miss Lorraine Blake,stu­ dent of Miss Marion Johnson in the advanced sewing class of the McHenry community high school, ^received honorable mention in the Butterick Na­ tional School of Dressmaking contest for the fall of 1929. The dress entered was made un­ der supervision during class time. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Jan. 11, 1945) Members of the Mothers Club will want to be sure to attend the January meeting when Miss Helen Steven's pupils at the high school will present a short play as part of the afternoon's pro­ gram. In charge will be Mrs. Paul Doherty, chairman, Mrs. Peter J. Schaefer, Mrs. A.I. Froehlich and Mrs. Floyd Co- valt. Morris Crouch, high school senior who left on Monday morning for service, 4vas guest of honor at a farewell party held on Saturday evening at the Prairie school south of Mc­ Henry given by neighbors and friends. Closing the old year by be- comlng husband and wife were Miss Mildrfcd Wozniak of near McHenry and Mr. Ernfrid G. Nelson of Crystal Lake. They were married Dec. 30 in Wau- conda by the Rev. Fr. John J. Mulligan of Transfiguration church. A lingering illness ended In death Jan. 3 for Tolie J. Tole- son, 62, who passed away in Excelsior Springs, Mo. He had gone to Excelsior Springs for treatment only a week before his passing. An iron moulder be­ fore (11 health prevented him from working, he and his fam­ ily resided in the Irish Prairie district south of McHenry for many years. The Glen Huska family has moved from the Klontz apart­ ment on Green street to a new home south of the city. Mrs. Robert Conway and sis­ ter, Mrs. Stella Calbow, en­ joyed a trip to St. Louis and Bellville where they Spent some time with A-2-C Dennis Conway at Scott Field. They also had the pleasure of visiting with Fa­ ther J. McGowan, a former as­ sistant at St. Patrick's church here, who is now serving as Chaplain at Scott Field. Mitchell, who comes to Mc­ Henry after almost three dec­ ades of experience as a sales­ man, sales manager, and part­ ner in the auto business at Crys­ tal Lake, says he plans to place equal emphasis on servicing au- tos and supplying parts with the sales department's respons­ ibility. At the Front street location, Mitchell and his staff will fea­ ture Buicks and Oldsmobiles in the big car line and the Opel Kadett in the. compact car area. Based on new auto deliveries last year, Mitchell Buick-Olds is the largest dealership in Mc­ Henry. In Crystal Lake, Mitchell was manager for Reichert Chevro- let-Buick and associated with Roger Reichert in R & M Auto Leasing, an important area of service he plans to develop in McHenry. "I thoroughly en­ joyed my relationship and the people in Crystal Lake but the chance to have my own dealers ship fulfills a longtime dream and Pm delighted the chance came in McHenry where I have many friends, too/' said Mit­ chell. Mitchell and his wife have six daughters and "Red" says the whole family pitched in to revitalize the showroom and of­ fice area where the building has begn dressed up for the open house. Joining Mitchell as members of the sales staff are three men who were among the leading professionals at Crystal Lake. Dale Marquardt and Wood Stone will be-fall time staff members and Jim Coburn, who served both at Woodstock and Crystal Lake with Reichert*s, will work on a part-time basis. Dick Reinert is also a full-time staff member. Refreshments and coffee will be served during the open house hours, and visitors are invited to register to provide a memen­ to in the guest book planned for the occasion. Hours will be 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday; 8 a.m.- 5 p.m., Saturday, and 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. Sunday.
