The Warrior sophomores basketball squad continued its winning ways this past week­ end as they blitzed Liberty- ville 84-49, and edged Zion 57-51 to remain unbeaten in North Suburban play. In the home contest against the Cats, the Little Warriors scored 23 points in each of the first three quarters to completely domin­ ate the contest and turn the game into an early rout. Coach Bill Blankenhom began empty­ ing his bench early in the third period as the regulars once a- gain got their accustomed rest as all reserves saw action. Ronnie Miller had a fantastic night from the field, connect­ ing for 24 points in the first half, and as usual, Don Pra­ zak and Carey Fenner did their yeoman like work under the glAS 9* The next night in the packed Zion mad houses the Warriors broke early from the gate and held off a late ZeeBee rush to gain the victory. The first two sessions are for high school students. Fifty students chosen by local sports­ men's clubs will receive a $40 room and board scholarship for each session. The workshops are sanctioned by the Illinois Department of Public Instruc­ tion and the Illinois High School association. Students selected to attend will be excused from school. Teachers may attend the fi­ nal session. The State Feder­ ation of Sportsmen's Clubs will sponsor 20 teachers. But, you forgot to men­ tion a wheel chair. Beckleman Beating Investigated By Sheriff's Police Sheriffs police have been in­ vestigating a beating which Ken­ neth Beckleman of 5114 N. West street, McHenry, said he re­ ceived from two men found in his home when he arrived there Wednesday evening. High point swimmers for the varsity were Stark with six, and Harvey and Roberts with four apiece. In the JV meet, the little Warriors took three 1st places, including a sweep in diving and the 100 yard back­ stroke. Pat Kane won the 200 individual medley, Jim Nelson was victorious in diving, and Doug Eschner won the back­ stroke. The Warriors next sWim into action next Monday at Lake Forest. Fmd No Evidence Of Pheasant Contamination Limited studies have turned up no evidence that pheasants in Illinois are contaminated with levels of mercury, a highly poi­ sonous heavy metal, that would cause pheasants to be unfit for human consumption. This re­ port, released by Dr. Glen C. Sanderson, head of wildlife re­ search at the Illinois Natural History Survey, is based on studies conducted by Associate Wildlife Specialist William W. Anderson. The possibility that pheasants carry dangerous lev­ els of mercury recently came to light In Alberta, Canada. by Bert Hagemann This last Monday the fresh^ men basketball team ran ii record to 8-1 with a close 44- 37 win over the Libertyville Wildcats on the opponents home floor. In previous games this month, the little Warriors suf­ fered, their first loss of the season to Crystal Lake by the narrow margin of four points, 43-39, and bounced back to beat Marengo 50-37 last week. In this the year of the round- ball at McHenry, the little War­ riors are more than holding their own, and this Saturday on the home hardwood at East campus, the orange and black will take on what is reputedly a very tough Barrington ball club. Why not roll over to East at nine in the morning and give the Warriors of the future a look see? McHenry High "B" Squad Swimmers Victorious by Bert Hagemann Last Saturday the Warrior "B" squad defeated the Dele- van "B" squad by a narrow marein of 53-42,jrhe meet went down to the final event, the 200 yard freestyle relay, before the final outcome was decided, and the Warriors came up on the long end of the score with a three second victory in_ race. First place winpets for the, orange and black included the"200 yard medley re lay team, Gary Bruan in diving, Bob Deck­ er in the 50 butterfly, and Rich Bland in the 50 yard backstroke. In the same meet, the freshmen squad lost a close on 56-37. Even though defeated, the fresh­ men did set five records for their classification, and gave indications of further improve­ ment. What do you do when every­ thing you try in a basketball game goes wrong? This was the question at the half time on Tuesday evening. The Scots had thrown the ball away time af­ ter time, they had not rebounded with their opponents, the ball just wouldtft seem to fit in the basket and they trailed by the overwhelming margin of 56 to 28. It would have been very easy for the McHenry team to return to the floor and give up or just go through the motions fof another 20 minute period.
