Hogsett, University of Ill inois Extension safety spec ialist. A few simple precautions will help you prevent them: --Keep children out of the line of traffic while you work in the kitchen. And when cook ing with hot water or fat, you may find that a gate at fifl Kit chen door will be the only ef fective way to keep small chil- dren out of the room and away from danger. --Make a habit of turning handles of all pots and pans toward the back of the range or table. Never let handles ex tend over the edge. --Be careful where you put electrical appliances in your kitchen. A cord dangling from a percolator or toaster invites inspection by youngsters. Keep all cords well out of their reach. Also, avoid the possi bility of tripping over cords that may upset mixers, heaters or other electrical equipment. --Keep matches out of the reach of small children. Use only safety matches if there are children in your family. Like EGGS At Lunch Time? Adams, local representative said as she announced the next pickiq? date in this area. The Goodwill industries truck will be in McHenry Friday, Ap ril 24. For pickup service call 385-0863. "Many householders are still throwing away many items which would produce work for the disabled", Mrs. Adams re ported. "Anything in the tex tile line is valuable and any item which can be worked at on a bench, like appliances, radios and other -small items are welcome". "POLLUTION" Death - it lurks silently above you in the air... you can't hear it - you can't see it... •* but it is there. Everyday reaps wholesale slaughter... it's floating aimlessly in your water... Will you stay dninvolved when there's much to be done? Or will you fight tlje filth until the battle is won? WH1 you help the cause that questions why? Or will you just sit back - and wait to die? You don't have to worry - you don't need to care - as long as you don't drink any water... and you don't breath any air. by Geri Neubauer THE ROBIN'S RETURN Welcome Robin Redbreast, if you only knew How many many times I've watched and looked in vain for you. Your coming's like the sunshine that follows after rain, For now I know that spring is near and winter's gone again. Your chirp at the daybreak, a farewell to the night, Your happy song at twilight makes all the world seem bright. Oh! could we make you understand the hope and jay you bring, Dear messenger of cheer and peace, fair harbinger of spring. \, ~ Ann Frisby PEACOCK BUTTERFLY By Kathryn Wagner I celebrate your coming, Peacock butterfly, You grace a vacancy in my heart , Add a heavely perfume A bewitching little tune "Til the day when you again depart. Plants wither away until another day To you I say goodbye Peacock butterfly, While you're flying high up in the sky I won't hesitate long before another date For Pve fallen in love with your eyes Oh yes - Pve fallen in love witn your eyes. LET'S END IT WITH A SONG Let's end it with a song just the way it began. The day you came along We sang a song. » That moment when we met I can't seem to forget That first time we met We sang a song. Let's erase every trace of sorrow For how can we Know? What we must face tomorrow. It doesn't matter where or when We may meet again, We can still be friends And sing a song. Henry W. Cieslak WED.
