Help Graduates Another class in Medical Self-Help training was gradu­ ated Wednesday April 15, in McHenry and members re­ ceived their diplomas. They also received an advanced first aid card from the American Red Cross. More important thanthe cards and the diplomas to the graduates, however, is the knowledge that they? now can handle many vital functions in Medical Self-Help in the event of an emergency. The instruc­ tor was Timothy San Fillipo of Official Ambulance company and a certified first aid in­ structor for the American Red Cross. According to John J. Shay, director of McHenry County Civil Defense, under whose of­ fice the course was held, the following persons received dip­ lomas: Norene Sorenson, Duane Fell, Kay Bessler, Ray and Linda Simon, Ilse Reinke, Ver­ non Weidner and James Bender of McHenry; Carolyn Belluso and Bernard Schmitz of Crystal Lake; John Grennan and James William Walquist and Carl Kiernan of Wonder Lake. "The course was an unqual­ ified success", Director Shay said. "I think that most of the persons who completed the course learned a great deal and felt it was worthwhile." He indicated that if other per­ sons in the county are interest­ ed, additional courses will be held in the future. Willow lane, McHenry, was found not guilty of a reckless homicide charge. This charge was in connection with an automobile accident that occurred on Sept. 21, 1969, at the intersection of Chapel Hill road and Eastwood lane, east of McHenry, when his car collided with an auto being driven by Leo V. Zimmerman of Wood­ stock, killing Zimmerman with­ out legal justification. BRANCH H Magistrate William J. Gleason Barbara J. Foote, 907 W. Jedlicka, Building and Zoning officer for McHen­ ry county, charges Elwood Whitney of 8712 Ramble road, Highland Shores; Richard Koty- za of 4704 Memory trail, High­ land Shores; and Richard Boet- tcher of 4115 Thompson road, all of Wonder Lake, with hav­ ing committed the offense of violation of junk vehicle or­ dinance of McHenry county, in that they have permitted to be stored or deposited, dis­ mantled, discarded, junked or apdicensed vehicles upon their land, such land being withiij the unincorporated areas of Mc­ Henry county. Hearing date is April 27. Deputy Edgar Fair charges that on April 17, Ralph L. Gould of 7502 Beverly way, Spring Grove, committed the of­ fense of curfew violation. Bond set at $25. Hearing date is Ap­ ril 27. Crystal Lake police charge that on April 13, Warren R. Woods of 2808 W. Kashmiri street, McHenry, committed the offense of purchase or accept­ ance of gift of liquor by a per­ son of non-age. Bond was $25, and the hearing date is May 19. Open Lecture Announced On Moral Problems The Adult Education group of St. Patrick's parish, McHenry, under the direction of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Vavrik, is offer­ ing to the public the third open lecture. The subject of this lecture is "Contemporary Mor­ al Problems: Birth Control", a subject of interest and con­ troversy among Americans to­ day. The lecture will be in St. Mary's gym, 1401 N. Richmond road, McHenry, Sunday, April 26, at 8 p.m. Questions from the floor will be welcomed af­ ter the lecture and discussion. The lecturer is exceptionally well qualified to present this talk. He is Father John F. Dekek, MA; STD, chairman of the Moral department and Pro­ fessor of moral theology at St. Mary of the Lake seminary, Mundelein. ON CONSERVATION -- Robert Fleck leads a discussion on conservation of land, construction of waterways and an analysis for anti-pollution in streams and air during Earth Day obser­ vances at the McHenry West campus Wednesday. PLAINDEALER PHOTO Wonder Lake Man Named To County Defense Office John J. Shay, director of McHenry County Civil Defense, announced the appointment of Roland Maul of Wonder Lake as deputy director for the Mc­ Henry County Civil Defense of­ fice. Mr. Maul has resided in Wonder Lake for the past four years with his family. Director Shay said that Mr. Maul's primary duties will be assisting cities in McHenry county under 5,000 in popula­ tion to accredit themselves to the county Office. This is a requirement of the State of Ill­ inois Civil Defense agency. GARY SCHAEFER HONORED -- Gary Schaefer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence J. Schaefer, Court street, was honored at Marquette univer­ sity's annual Engineering Hon­ ors Convocation on TUfcsdayT evening, April 14. Along with fifteen other outstanding engin­ eering freshmen, Gary was awarded a certificate for aca­ demic excellence during the first semester of undergraduate work in his chosen field.
