Moulis who has had enough success to earn him Rookie of the Year honors will also race on Friday night, Sept. 4 at the Santa Fe Speedway in Willow Springs. This date marks the first at this track for the IRA Supers of the Seventies but there is indication that this dirt track could be a regular stop on Circuit of Supers in '71. In response to an article in the local papers recently, Ave new players have joined the Mc­ Henry County COUGARS Soc­ cer Team. Club President A1 Van Berkum and coach Hans Reinhardt both feel that the new additions will be a great asset to the club and will contribute much toward making the Cou­ gars a winning team in the League. Juan Vallet, exchange student from Chile, who makes his home with the Rogers family of Lake­ land Park, is one of the new team members.' Other exchange students have played with the Club in the past: ArnfinStokken of Norway, who lived with the Wheelock family of McHenry during his stay in this country, played with the team when they were known as the Wonder Lake Mustangs. Another player was Eduardo Carrasco of Santiago, Chile who worked at a research center in Woodstock during his eighteen month stay in our coun­ try. On Aug. 23 the Cougars play­ ed against "Tampico" from Chicago in the first game of the fall league season and were defeated 4-2. Cross Country* Opens Practice For 1970 Season By Bill Blankenhorn The McHenry cross country teams opened practice for the 1970 season last week with 33 runners greeting new head coarh Bill Hutchinson on open­ ing day. Mr. Hutchinson re­ placed Don Seaton as head coach when the former resigned to be­ come iSsistantprincipalatEast Campus. Heading the list of returning varsity candidates are three letter men; Co-Captains Keith Hutchinson (senior) and Terry McGibbon (junior) plus senior Eric Weiss. Also listed by Coh Hutchinson as outstand­ ing prospects are Seniors Ed Dschida and Jim Faas, Juniors John Diedrich, Jerry Walter, and John Seaton, and Sopho­ more Alex Thomas. Graduated from the team that ran up a string of 28 straight dual ireet wins and two con­ secutive years as North Subur­ ban, Mc Henry county and state district champions are: Brad Pictor. Glenn Hampton, Wayne Smith, Mike Freund, Bruce Da­ vit. Fred Stark, Don Shubert, Ed Brutt and Terry Wiesnew- ski. Also gone are two very promising sophomores, Tom Lightner and Greg Pickrum who have transferred to other schpois. However, with the nu­ cleus that is returning , plus the hard work that has been exhibited in the first week of practice, Coach Hutchinson is optimistic that the young men he has this year can continue the winning tradition of the past years. The first meet of the season will be Thursday Sept. 10 at Wasf campus at 4:30. The op­ ponents for the triangular will be North Chicago and Grays- lake. We would encourage you to make every effort to attend all meets. Our youth are our most important investment. Soap Bowl McCracken By Bill Blalnkenhorn The fourth annual Soap Bowl football game will be held on Friday, September 11 at Mc­ Cracken Field. Sophomores will get under way at approximately 6:30 with the varsity to follow at 7:30. Coach Bill Day has indi­ cated that the spirit, desire and enthusiasm is extremely good and there are somjg real battles developing for starting berths at all positions. The Soap Bowl will be the first big test for Football Game At Field September 11 the offense and defense. The coaching staff has devised a new system under which the game will be played this year. The best offensive personnel will have the ball all the time against the best of the defensive members. A new and unique scoring system will be insti­ tuted for this game so watch this sports page on Wednesday for exact details. Remember, support your local high school teams. After three months of the good life during summer vacation, the players are putting forth that little bit extra to be ready for the first Warrior game. The first weeks are devoted mostly to getting back into condition, learning team plays and determining po­ sition assignments.
