S£PT. 23, 1970 Lakemoor-Lilymoor Rita Casey 385-2780 Road Maintenance Program Started With Weed Control At the last bi-monthly meeting of the village council, it was announced that the 1970 road maintenance program has been started with the weed con­ trol along the right-of-ways already having been completed. The culvert cleaning and main road repair will be started within a short time. The ordin­ ance committee is working on rewriting the building code of the village to bring it up to date, and hope to have it ready for presentation within a few weeks. Commonwealth Edison Company notified the council that it will take approximately another six months before the new street lights the village^or- dered will be installed due to a long waiting list and a man power shortage. The next coun­ cil meeting will be held Thurs­ day, Sept. 24, at 8 p.m. in the municipal building. All in­ terested residents are invited to attend. FUN CLUB Members of the fun club met last Wednesday, Sept. 9, for a social evening. A delicious Chi­ nese dinner was served by the hostess for the evening, Helen Para. At the social, prizes were won by Lou Bitterman, first; Doris Kibbe, second; Al­ ice Becker, third; and Pat Mor­ rison, fourth. The women feted Lu Bitterman who celebrated her birthday. The hostess serv­ ed a very pretty and good tast­ ing upside down cake for the occasion late in the evening. LADIES LEAGUE At the Ladies League social night neld on Sept. 16, bunco was played, winners v were; Florence Mix, first; Marie Hy­ att, second; Sophie Patterson, third; Rittf Casey, fourth; Jes­ sie Corbett, fifth, and booby went to Buelah Smogur. The ladies also welcomed three new members, Eleanore Giles, Helen Netzel and Ann Brez- ezinski. NEW ARRIVAL Mr. and Mrs. James Cassell of South Elgin are the proud parents of a baby girl, Leigh Ann. The little one was born on Sept. 15, at 10:22 p.m. and weighed in at 7 lbs., 7 ozs. Leigh Ann is the second daughter for the James Cassells, their other daughter is Kristi Sue, 3 years old. VeryV happy grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John Cas­ sell of Lakemoor and Mr. and Mrs. Orvill Hein of South El­ gin, great-grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Willard Mix of Lake- moor. Mrs. Stineman was the founder of the Lily- moor Women's Auxiliary and an active member, she will be missed by many. ASSOCIATION NEWS The Lilymoor Association held its general meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 15. The meeting was held to stress the import­ ance of the Association and all of its members. A nominating committee was also elected. VISITORS Mr. and Mrs. Caho and son were the guests of the Roy Tobey family of Lilymoor. Hie Cahos are from South Village, 111., and were here to cele­ brate their birthdays along with Eunice Tobey whose birthday was Sept. 7. - BIRTHDAYS Belated and best wishes to Fred Thornton on Sept. 16, Mark Betancourt, Sept. 18, Maryln Lo Presti, Sept. 19, Terri Povidas and Lu Graven- stuk, Sept. 21, and to little Candy Freeman who will be a big five years old on Sept. 22. LILYMOOR WOMAN AUXILIARY At the auxiliary meeting held Monday, Sept. 14, an election of officers was held for the coming year. Installation will take place on Oct. 5, at the Hueckstaedt residence. IN CLOSING At the corn roast in the Village of Lakemoor a purse Establishment of a Conser­ vation Education Advisory council by the McHenry Coun­ ty Soil and Water Conservation district and McHenry County Farm Bureau will enable them to provide considerable teach­ ing tools for county teachers. Available through the county Farm Bureaus and the Illinois Agriculture association is in­ formation for teachers on many facets of conservation. The ma­ terial is designed to serva as reference material for tea­ chers, explained Henry Edger- ton, executive secretary of the Farm Bureau who is arranging for the material now. Kenneth Fiske, president of the Soil and Water Conserva­ tion district, said several es­ tablished groups are function­ ing to make valuable use of this informational material now. The material is for grades kin­ dergarten through high school. Spscific examples are the Oat- door Education group at Crystal Lake and the program underway in Woodstock District 200. Others learning about avail­ ability of this material should contact Edgerton or Fiske. The Mciieary county superintendent of schools is also involved in this program, and can provide information how to obtain mat­ erials. "This project will help coor­ dinate conservation teaching ef­ forts in McHenry county and will encourage more teachers to incorporate this broad topic in their curriculum planning," said Fiske. In other action last week the Soil and Waler Conservation district is developing po­ tential projects to provide the forty-seven Boy Scout troops in the county with worthwhile conservation projects. Haynes of 4321 North Elmleaf drive, Pistakee Terrace, Mc­ Henry, has been appointed a part-time lecturer in education at Lake Forest college, accord­ ing to an announcement by Dr. William L. Dunn, dean of the faculty. Mrs. Haynes, who is co-au­ thor of Afro-Americans, Then and Now, published by Benefic Press, is a 1935 graduate of Northwestern university with a B.S. degree in Psychology. She received her M.A. in ed­ ucation in 1957 at Western Re­ serve University. She was the recipient of a scholarship at Northwestern and also studied at Chicago State college in 1962, DePaul university in 1963, and the Chi­ cago board of education work­ shops in 1966-68. She is a fiil- time author with Ginn Publish­ ing company and is a mem­ ber of the National Education association and Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. Palmer, has been awarded a Presidential scholarship from Midwestern college, Denison, Iowa, for the 1970 fall term.
