Mr. and Mrs. William Powers of Batavia spent Sunday with his mother, Mrs. Mabel Powers Mr. and Mrs. Otto Adams have returned from a two months vacation with their son, Carl, in Los Angeles and had the unhappy experience of going through the earthquake while there. A very interestting and in­ formative program was presented to the McHenry Business and Professional Women's club by Police Chief Kenneth Espey and Lt. Robert Kranz of the local police department last Monday. It was the regular meeting of the M c H e n r y c l u b . Chief Espey told of the police program with youth, and Lt. Kranz, juvenile officer, related several case histories as examples. Both men asked that every person in the community help them to make the area better and safer for all ages. Chief Espey invited the ladies to visit the new police depart­ ment in the city hall to see the new and modern equipment which has been installed. A business meeting was held following the program, during which new members were elected. Rita Hahn was named president; Libby Podpora, first vice-president; Jean Dostal, second vice-president; Mildred Kersten, recording secretary; Shirley Harms, corresponding secretary; and Edna Olson, treasurer. The month of February, 1971, is the golden anniversary of the Illinois Business and Professional Women's club. Although the local club is only a year and a half old and started with a membership of thirty, this number has grown to fifty. The club is open to all business and professional women in McHenry. Teuber as fhey plan a "silly supper" for the "Silly Supper" Planned Sunday By Sheepherders The Sheepherders Fellowship group at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church, 404 North Green street, McHenry, has planned a "silly supper" to be held Sunday, Feb. 21, at 6 p.m. in the Fireside room. The "silly supper" will include an especially planned menu with very unique dishes. The fifty-three members who have registered for the event will have to make a choice from the menu presented and then take their chances. If they choose incorrectly from the menu they may receive their dessert as an appetizer and their salad as a dessert, but it is a "silly sup­ per." After the meal has been eaten, the fifty-three members attending will form a kitchen band to serenade themselves. Girl Scouts will be knocking at local doors Feb. 19 through Feb. 26, taking orders for five types of flavorsome cookies. The new, gaily flowered plastic wrappers, which store very well in the freezer, contain the popular chocolate mint, butter- flavored shorties, peanut butter sandwich and pecanettes. The orders will be filled and delivered between April 12-17. Each troop retains five cents per box in their treasury for their own troop program. The balance of profit goes for the development of the Sybaquay Girl Scout council's three camps. They i are Camp Hawthorne Hill, Elgin, 23 acres used year 'round for day and troop camping; Chapman Hills camp, Near East Troy, Wis., 350 acres, used year 'round for troop camping; and Camp Pokonokah Hills near Bloomer, Wis., 700 acres used in summer for resident camping.
