PAGE II-PLAINDEALER-FRIDA.Y, FEBRUARY 26, 1971 COUNCIL CHANGES RECOMMENDATION FOR AREA HOSPITAL (Continued from page 1) (Jommenting on the central hospital idea which his organi zation Mad helped encourage, he concluded, "I think the prob lem of securing capital funding precludes the development of such a facility." 3ibley said he believes the logical location for the pro posed new small hospital would be southeast of Crystal Lake. He recognized discussions in the Barrington area concerning a new hospital project and said he Jjelieves those people should concentrate on working out only an ambulatory care center to serve the Barrington-Lake Zurich area. The proposed Crystal Lake-Cary-Algon quin hospital would be avail able to serve Barrington-Lake Zurich people in Sibley's plan. The Hospital Planning coun cil in the past has carried considerable weight. Those who give loans for construction want to know the attitude of this group and desire its endorse ment before providing funds. In dustry leaders, which founded the council, were bombard ed with contribution requests from many hospital groups, and today they view the Planning council as an authority on hos pital planning which seeks to avoid duplication of facilities and equipment. FORMER WONDER LAKE MAN CHARGED WITH THEFT OF CAR (Continued from page I) foot. He was finally apprehended near Christ the King in Won der Lake and taken to county jail, where Deputy Herbert Cropp signed the three com plaints. Bond was set at $2,500, and a hearing date set for March 1. REFERENDUM IN DISCUSSION (Continued from page 1) needed at this time. He re minded that the board is com mitted to economy, and said funds cannot be transfer red from one fund to another for more than a twelve-month per iod. Some discussion took place regarding the merits of the unit school over the dual system, T) he HJott Cli & true taxpayers Ask IRS Hal shows why "only"' children zoom the divorce rate. Oh, they may "show off" beautifully in public and demonstrate all the rules of social etiquette but after marriage they often gripe and grumble or even show jealousy of their own kiddies. So try to have a family of at least 3 children! Then they'll all be safer marriage risks in later "life! By - George W. Crane, Ph. D. m.d. CASE L-522: Hal B., aged 27, is a young father. - "But, Dr. Crane," his devoted wife began, "Hal gets irritated by our two youngsters. "And he actually seems jealous of the attention which I give them. "Although they are only 3 and 4 years old, Hal thinks they should remain silent at the dinner table and keep their playroom as neat as his office. "Dr. Crane, you have often said that 'only' children are a hazard in marriage and I can now see why, for Hal was an 'only' child of wealthy parents who let a governess rear him." MARRIAGE HAZARDS When a boy (or girl) is an "only" child and thus reaches adulthood as the absolute monarch of the domestic scene, he becomes habituated to 100 percent of the attention from Mamma and Daddy. By contrast, Hal's wife was one of 5 brothers and sisters, so she obtained only about 20 percent of the spotlight as she f.rew up. When they married, now notice what happened. Assuming marriage is a 50-50 situation, who loses and who gains in the limelight of the new marital union? Hal, who formerly monopolized all 100 percent of the parental attention, now drops to 50 percent, so he vaguely grows disgruntled. His wife, however, rises from her childhood 20 percent and now is supposed to rate 50 percent, so she gains and is thrilled at the rise in her division of the spotlight. < But after their 2 babies arrived, she now diverts a large share of Hal s 50 percent to the kiddies. So Hal, already disgruntled at the drop from 100 percent to a mere 50 percent, chafes irritably at maybe obtaining barely 25 percent. And when an adult is deflated in ego, he may then look for faults so he can whittle down the ego of his wife or children to a smaller size. Besides, Hal had a governess and other household maids to pick up after him while he was a child, so his bedroom and playroom were relatively neat and orderly. But when you have 2 youngsters, fairly close together in age, friction, quarrels and actual fights are routine daily occurrences. Wives, don't get unduly upset when your husbands pick flaws with your housekeeping and say you do a messy job. Calmly remind them that a messy home is more likely to be a HAPPY household, if there are several children therein. If you try to stifle a child's fun and make his homelife a strait jacket, you may engender serious resentment. This column of questions and answers on federal tax matters is provided by the local office of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service and is published as a public service to taxpayers. The; column answers questions most frequently asked by taxpayers. Q) Is it true IRS will figure the tax and the retirement in come credit for taxpayers this year? A) Yes, as long as certain conditions are met. Briefly, these are that your income is $20,000 or less and consists entirely of wages, salaries, tips, dividends, interest, pen sions and annuities. You must also take the standard deduc tion. The IRS will compute your tax if you meet these condi tions. Fill in the proper lines If your kiddies thus are forced to bottle up this ire while in grammar school, they may strike back at you in college by becoming hippies, drunkards or iconoclasts in general. You mothers, however, should train your kiddies to do their own chores and earn their own spending money. So send for my "Behavior Tests for Teen-Agers," en closing a long stamped, return envelope, plus 20 cents. They are applicable, however, to any child of reading age, so use them with early grammar schoolers. Let them rate themselves thereon. (Always write to Dr. Crane in care of this newspaper, en closing a long stamped, ad dressed envelope and 20 cents to cover typing and printing costs when you send for one of his booklets.) as indicated on page 2 of the instructions and mail your re turn to the IRS Service Cen ter. Any retirement income credit you are entitled to will also he computed where the proper lines on Schedule R are filled in. Be sure to at tach Schedule R and other necessary Schedules to your Form 1040. After we compute your tax. you will either receive a re fund or bill for additional tax due. Q) Taxes were withheld from a part-time job I had last spring. I don't have to file a return so how do I get. this money back? A) A return must be filed to obtain a refund. Attach W 2 statement showing the wages paid and taxes withheld to the Form 1040 you com plete and send it to the In ternal Revenue service center for your area.. Q) The address is wrong on my blue address label. What should I do? A) Make the correction right on the label and place it on the front of the form you tile. Q) What's the change in the handling of crop insurance proceeds for farmers? A) A cash basis farmer is usually required to report in come the year it is received. Under the Tax Reform Act of 1969, however, a farmer re ceiving insurance compensa tion for damaged or destroyed crops may elect to defer re porting the proceeds until the year following the loss if the income would otherwise have been reported in any tax year following the year of destruc- t on or damage. Q) What's the maximum social security tax for 1970? I had two jobs and I think I paid too much. A) The maximum social se curity tax is $374.40 for 1970. If jjiore than that was with held from your wages because you hkd more than one em ployer last year, enter the ex cess on line 62 of your Form 1040. This is explained in the 1040 instructions. Q) Can you include the cost of a house hunting trip with other moving expenses for in come tax purposes? A) Yes, under certain con ditions. For details on moving ex penses, send a post card to your IRS district office and ask for Publication 521 and a copy of Form 3903. This form must be completed and sent in with your return if you claim this deduction. Columbia is the only South American country fronting on both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. SCHWEGEL & CO. 4410 West Route 120 McHenry, Illinois Phone 3854410 - 9-9 Daily McHenry Man Wins Burlington '71 Truth Award On Feb. 21, a local resi dent was honored at a dinner in Wisconsin at the Burlington which has been recommended * Truth Tellers club, where he from time to time. Althoff exr received the Truth award for plained that the unit district would receive more state sup port, but it also would be un- des stricter regulation. On fur ther questioning, he said that Johnsburg would become part of the local district under a unit district. That area, he com mented, has its own particular problems which would be added to those which already exist if the unit district should be formed. Althoff stated that an attempt is being made to obtain an or dinance which would require subdividers to donate to the school districts. To a question on the auditing of district books, Althoff said this had been done by an out side firm and all funds are sufficient with the exception of the educational account. Speaking of expenditures, he said the board had spent over $100,000 at East campus be cause of the strict life safety . code enacted by the state fol lowing the tragic school fire in Chicago a few years ago. Al thoff said it was his opinion this great an expense was not necessary but the board was compelled to meet state re quirements. Speaking of the traditional and modular systems, he said he felt there was little difference in the cost. In conclusion, Al thoff pointed to the possibility that the school could lose ac creditation by the North Cen tral association if the board curtails the program as it has announced, should the referen dum fail. When he went outside, they left and he observed that the gas cap was missing as well as a 1971 license plate from the auto. *• William Frenssen of 4516 Seneca drive, Wonder Lake, returned to his home after vis iting in Germany since June, 1970, and discovered the resi dence had been burglarized. Jewelry, clothing, drapes and other items were reported missing. Deputies could not de termine where entry had been gained to the house. Fred Hoffmeister of McHenry reported to city police Monday that his boat, parked at Tri ton Marine, 1208 N. Riverside drive, McHenry, had been bur glarized.
