MARCH 26, 1971 II X SADIE HAWKINS PLANNERS -- These young West campus high school students are busy at work in the school band room, painting a psy chedelic bath tub for the Sadie Hawkins dance to be held Friday, March 26, at the school, sponsored by the junior class. March 23, Mrs. Math J. Rauen of 1610 Riverside drive, McHenry, observed her ninety-third birthday. The attractive Mrs. Rauen remains in excellent health and maintains her large home alone. She was feted Tuesday evening at a dinner in the home of her only son, Arnold Rauen, and wife at Pistakee Bay. 300 Attend GOP Dinner Dance More than 300 people turned out last Friday night at the McHenry Country club for the township GOP night of fun. The dinner dance and night club act was sponsored by the McHenry Township Republican Central committee. Following a sumptuous repast of prime rib with all the trimmings, patrons were treated to the delightful per formance by Linda Merrill, a top ranking stage, television and radio personality. Every phase of entertainment was brought to light with an act that sparkled with clever comedy, a unique sense of timing, and highly styled special material including songs from some of America's finest shows. Anthony Varese m.c.'d the show and also introduced many honored guests including Congressman Robert McClory; McHenry County Republican Central Committee Chairman Al Jourdan, Jr; Township Chairman Jake Levesque; Township Supervisor Wally Dean and Township Road r Commissioner Clarence Regner. Ye know, there jist ain't any thin't' make a body feel so good, as t' go shoppin' an' be greeted wi' a smile an' a "Howdy do?" It's like sunshine an' sure brightens a cloudy day It takes a heap o' time, though, a livin' in a nice little town, in order t' git acquainted, an' it's well worth the effort t' make the merchants feel that they're a doin' a commendable job, in servin' the customers. It makes one feel like we're all good friends, an' that's the way it should be. One o' the pleasures o' livin' in a smaller town, is that strangers ain't insulted when a body speaks t' 'em, 'r gives 'em a smile. In the big cities folks seem t' be almost afraid t' loosen up, and be friendly. Some seem suspicious, even, if ye try t' be friendly. This world could be sich a lovely place, if everyone wuz more anxious t' make the other feller feel that friendliness is a virtue an' the whole wide world 'd be better off fer a lot more o' it than's been practiced fer a long, long time. It's right gratifyin* t' hear o' our local young folks, engagin' in programs fer the promotion o' brotherly love. The effect o' sincere endeavor in turnin' the trend o' attitude toward one another, to one o' consideration fer one's feller-men, reverses the old sayin that a bad apple kin spoil a whole barrel. Th' momentum o' positive force in the right direction kin do wonders t' turn the tide o'. thinking o' the younger generation, t' help mankind, an' we all know that it is easier t' acquire bad habits than it is t' break 'era. Wi' a lot o' patience, encouragement an' love, we kin accomplish the feat, an' start the ball rollin' toward a goal o' better environment fer all. It needn't be regretful that we wasn't able t' foresee all the detrimental results, in time t' pervent 'em from happenin', cause we kin stand strong behind the younguns, in their efforts t' rebuild this society. Perhaps an important lesson has been learned, which '11 pervent similar things from growin' up in our society, like weeds in a lovely garden. More power to all the young folk, involved wi' makin' a better society out o' the mixed up. messed up, muddled one we've found ourselves floun- derin' in. My hat's off t' anyone who kin git behind an' push, t' help these wonderful young people.
