DON PEASLEY PHOTO SB GoodwillI To Visit City Next Friday The need to train the han dicapped is increasing, Mrs. Nick (Agnes) Adams, local G o o d w i l l I n d u s t r i e s representative, reported as she announced the coming pickup schedule for this area. The Goodwill truck will be in McHenry Friday, April 23, to collect seriously needed clothing, shoes, toys, small appliances and housewares which can be utilized in the training program for the disabled. Currently the warehouses are empty. For pickup service, call Mrs. Adams. "The biggest challenge faced by handicapped people in their search for jobs is their lack of training and work experience. When properly evaluated and trained, the handicapped can work as well as anyone else. Your local Goodwill Industries has the goal of answering this challenge, involving tests, evaluation and workshop operations," Mrs. Adams continued. By helping Goodwill, you help the mentally and physically handicapped. Caster Message In Song Thrills Local Residents Easter has come and gone, but its meaning lingers on in our hearts and minds. We heard its meaning portrayed in music in a cantata at the Community Gospel church at Melrose Park. We were happy to say, our son-in-law sang a leading tenor solo in it. The music started out with a sorrowful tone, of the agony that Christ suffered carrying his heavy cros§, the piercing of the crown of thorns on his head and the hurt of the nails put through His lovely hands. Then the music took on a more joyful tone, Mary had gone to the tomb and found her Lord had gone, the disciples came also and found He was not there, His burial clothes were neatly folded up. Then they remem bered the scriptures and His saying that He would arise and He arose. He brought a new life and hope to the heart of every man. The scenes done through the singing were life size and vivid were their meaning, done in silent slides. The beautiful singing in the cantata made Easter complete. , NEW LIFE New life is also coming to our area, the trees will soon be out in all their greenery and the flowers will be in bloom with their fragrance everywhere. The birds will burst forth in song, everything and everyone will be alive again. The little boy fishermen are out early in the morning catching their fish, even northerns. A MONTH IN HAWAII Mr. and Mrs. Harry Symonds of 4411 Sussex just returned from a month in beautiful Hawaii. Instead of taking another tour, like in the past, to be herded around on schedule, their trip this time included their own apartment with cooking facilities. They could do their own cooking and shopping when they wanted to, go for a swim and in general ignore the clock. This trip was a reunion with Mr. Symond's brother and his wife, whom they had not seen for ten years, and it was the happiest of holidays. They toured the Islands together taking picnic baskets with them, dropping into any cove that looked inviting. Exploring China Town and the historical buildings, botanical Gardens loaded with orchids, was a joy to behold. They also took a trip into the mountains where it rains all the time, giving the Islands an abundance of water, 200 inches per year. They sampled bananas, coconuts off the trees like school kids on a prowl. One evening, returning from Waikiki, Harry and his brother were accosted by two lovely maidens?? They wanted a date. So they figured it was time to board the 747, and get back to safety and Whispering Oaks. SMALL WORLD It was a small world for me last week. About 23 years ago I . worked with a lady in Chicago who Became a friend and have not seen her since, but here in McHenry she has a son who has a sausage store. It was great, they gave me a sample of every kind of homemade stuff, most delicious, so much that I wasn't hungry for a long time. BIRTHDAY , Mrs. Dorothv O'Brien of 1006 Essex Court had a birthday April 17. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Kohler came to her home for dinner on Sunday to help her celebrate it. / BRIDGE CLUB? Are you interested in forming LaLeche League Meets April 27 Meetings of the LaLeche league are held the last Tuesday of every month, at the home of one of the members. Each meeting is closed, with refreshments and informal talk. This month's meeting will be held on April 27 at 8 p.m. For more information call 385-6315. Literally, the league means "the milk", and to members it means life, love and the beginning of happiness to a baby. Good mothering is its object -- mothers helping mothers sharing experiences, discussing approaches, reading and understanding what breastfeeding is all about. Members feel there is still a great deal of misunderstanding about breast feeding. It is the league's purpose to resolve these problems through a series of four monthly meetings: The Advantages of Breastfeeding; How to Succeed at Breastfeeding; Childbirth and the Family ; Nutrition and Weaning. The league's library has a vareity of books dealing with breastfeeding, child care, the family and nutrition.. a Round Robin Bridge Club in Whispering Oaks?
