When firemen arrived at the scene, they found the wall and floor in the crawl space afire* Investigation by Fire Chief Glenn Peterson revealed that a flue pipe connected to the hot water heater had become clogged, created a down draft. Damage was also done to the wall and floor in the utility room. Peterson was unable to give a complete estimate of the damage. Children of the area, still on Easter vacation, gathered around to watch the firemen. Plaindealer Photo Audubon Group Takes issue Tickets Tour Of Richmond Farm Forty-five persons, fifteen of them guests from Park Ridge, gathered Saturday morning, April 17, at the Bob Steadman residence on the Von Rosen farm, near Richmond, when the McHenry County chapter, Audubon society, held its monthly bird walk. To ex­ perience the beauty of the natural woodland with its marshy areas and ponds on the glorious warm spring morning was in itself a real treat for these nature lovers. Members and friends were present from Woodstock, Crystal Lake, Marengo, Wonder Lake, McHenry, Spring Grove, Belvidere and Greenwood as well as the delegation from Park Ridge. Seen on the morning tour were meadowlarks, downy and red headed woodpeckers, red wing blackbirds, brown thrasher, gold finch, myrtle warbler, field, song, tree, chipping and lark sparrows, red tailed hawk, hermit thrush, chicadee, cardinal, flicker, white breasted nut hatch, cowbird, tree swallow, mallard duck, brown creeper, blue jay, pheasant, grackle, and junco. Rolls, coffee and cocoa were served, chuck wagon style, at the close of the morning, by Vera Churchill, Leona Skinkle and Louise Triplett, all of Crystal Lake. Barbara Gay, vice-president, announced the next meeting to be held Friday evening, April 30 at 7:30 p.m. at the Crystal Lake Nature center, when an invaluable leader, Larry Lane, teacher, naturalist and ranger at Isle Royal, will tell how to get the most out of a field trip. Also at this meeting, the club's president, Darlene Fiske, will explain how to lead a grade school field trip. All members are urged to be present, and as usual to bring interested friends of all ages. Here & There In BUSINESS Demonstrate New Equipment At Business Show Scan-Am company of McHenry participated in a three-day business equipment show at the Sherman House in Chicago last week sponsored by t h e A d m i n i s t r a t i v e Management society, Chicago branch. There they demon­ strated their internal com­ munication systems, talked about the concept of the second system "inside line" reserving the public telephone for outside conversation. Scan-Am was proud to in­ troduce the newest addition to its equipment line, the Norelco Mastercom line, a product of North American Philips Company. On Tuesday, LeRoy Olsen, president of Scan-Am, was a speaker on an AMS panel which discussed "Cutting Costs Through Use of a Private In­ ternal Communication System", this a part of the seminar on "Cost Reduction Though Better Operations", the theme of the entire AMS business show. ON GAS SURVEY Marvin Chandler, chairman of Northern Illinois Gas company, has been appointed to the National Gas Survey executive advisory committee by Federal Power Commission Chairman John N. Nassikas. Chandler is among 40 leading national utility executives selected to advise the FPC in its study of the natural gas in­ dustry. The national gas committee will conduct growth studies and provide recom­ mendations on legislation and regulatory policies needed to provide gas supplies consistent with projected national energy requirements. MARINE OFFERING Modern technology and rapid advancements in aviation demand highly trained technicians. Shelton, Jr., 21, son of Mr. and Mfs. Harold C. Shelton, Sr., 7500 Salem road, Wonder Lake, is presently serving with Med. Co, W.A.H.S.T.C. at Fort Bragg, N.C. He entered the army in September of 1970 and com­ pleted basic training at Fort Lewis, Wash. He took his schooling from November, 1970, to February, 1971, where he studied disinfection of water, sanitation, and pest control; his main course of study was preventive medicine. Chuck graduated from McHenry high school in 1969. Clifford O. Lindstrom, son of Mrs. Margaret B. Lindstrom, 806 Peter St., McHenry, recently was appointed a Cadet Lieutenant at the U.S. Military academy, West Point, N.Y., and will serve as a platoon leader. Cadet Lindstrom is scheduled to graduate next June with a B.S. degree and a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the infantry. Emerald K. Clinge, 21, whose wife, Glenda, lives at 1011 Woodland circle, Island Lake, recently was promoted to Army Specialist Five while serving with the 213th Assault Support Helicopter company near Phu Loi, Vietnam. Zoning Board of Appeals of McHenry County By Joseph Crabb (Pub. April 23,1971) JOINS CHURCH-New to the area of McHenry is the Rev. Ramiro Rodriquez. He and his family have recently moved to the county from Benton, Texas, where he had pastored the First Mexican Baptist church. The new McHenry minister will serve with the First Baptist church of McHenry and will be an assistant to the church's pastor, the Rev. Virgle L. Chappell. Rev. Rod­ riquez will regularly conduct worship services in the Spanish language at 9:45 a.m. every Sunday morning at the church. He will also conduct fellowship Bible classes in various homes of the community. It is believed that Rev. Rodriquez is the only Spanish speaking pastor in McHenry county. The family of Rev. Rodriquez includes his wife, Mary; daughters Olga, age 7 and Lydia, 2; and Junior, age 5. The family resides at 4214 Sioux.
