i-., PAGE 14-PLAINDEALER-FRIDAY, MAY 14. 1971 1 t IN WORKSHOP--DeDe Harris of 1110 WNE Shore drive, McHenry, inches up suspended steel cable In a test of balance and strength at Southern Hlirfois university's Little Grass Lake obstacle course called "Underway." She and twenty-four other Illinois school youths were at the laboratory April 18-24 for an " Environmental Responsibility Workshop" sponsored by the Illinois Federation of Women's Clubs . She is a McHenry high school senior. Boy Scout News CUB PACK 349 Cub Scout Pack 349, Rich mond-Spring Grove, was priv ileged to have the 4-H club of Spring Grove present its blue ribbon earned performance of "Noah's Ark" at the April 25 pack meeting held at the Rich mond Legion hall. Performed to the tune of "Unicorn", the animals came in two by two. The colorful scenery and life- size costumes including ele phants, camels, lions, croco diles, to mention a few, Were all handmade by the club, which is under the direction of Bev- trly Schmidt. Their acting matched their creative skills as fie elephants lumbered in, the monkeys cavorted, and the ducks waddled, etc.; much to the amusement and enjoyment of «11. 3 It is almost incomprehensive to imagine the number of pains taking hours involved in this production. The meeting started with Den 7 presenting colors. Everyone joined Darlene Jones, den leader coach, in doing a Class A applause to get them warmed up for the Cub Scout vaudeville show soon to follow. • Cubmaster Leo Smith, with assistance of Ed Popelka, pi ;sented the following awards: Steven Miller of Den 1, assis tant denner; Den 3, Billy Reev es, Denner and Bob Nutten, assistant denner; Jeff Gross man of Den 5, a Gold and Sil ver Arrow; Russ Jones of Web- elos Den 7, a 3-rear pin, 3- year attendance pin, Geologist badge and the Arrow of Light along with a graduation certif icate from Cub Scouting; John Michmerschmizen, a 2-year at tendance pin; Webelos Den 8, Lonnie Starastovic, Engineer; and Jim Werner, Geologist Bad ge. Russ Jones is going into Boy Scout Troop 128 in Spring Grove. John Crokin was in ducted to Den 1, Mike Saville to Den 3 and Peter Stock to Den 5. Then the show began. An easel on stage with signs an nounced the acts. Den 1 pre sented "The Mystic Mind Read er" and "The Jolly Jugglers". Den 3 entertained with their amusing hillbilly band and mountain singing, accompanied by Mary Murphy on the piano. This was followed by one-line jokes called "A Little Bit of Koro". Den 5 appeared from the back of the room with two rid ing and the rest holding 15) and pushing a tandem bicycle while appropriately singing "A Bi cycle Built for Two". Their straw hats and old time cos tumes added a touch of gayety. Then they scampered on stage to sing "Do-Re-Mi". Russ Jones of Den 7, with his as sistants, performed some feats of magic. Den 8 pantomimed Snoopy and The Red Baron. The boys had constructed planes from cardboard covered with paper. Between acts the parents joined Darlene Jones in sing ing some old-time songs. "No ah's Ark" was presented as the grand finale and adequate praise is hard to give to such a fine group of young people. They have certainly accomplished something that will be very dif ficult to surpass. Den 7 re tired the colors and refresh ments were served. Scout-O-Rama is this Satur day, May 15 from 1 to 9 p.m. at the Crystal Lake high school. Pack 349 is again having a booth and will be trying for another blue ribbon. They hope everyone will come and see all the exhibits. The theme is "Bridge To The Future", which focuses on the saving of our environment and what scouting is trying to do to help. Mothers would, if they could, show their children all that there is to see and give them everything--time for fun, time for play--new clothes, new toys, a television to watch car toons, endless red kites and bright yellow bal loons and, later, skis and sports cars. Yet, in this eagerness to show and to give, aren't they in danger of overlooking some of the most important things of all? What of eauty, of serenity, of joy--the knowledge of 's goodness, His love, and familiarity with His house on earth . . . the Church? SERVICES St. Patrick Catholic Church Rev.
