POPPY FOR EVERYONE--Poppies will go on sale in McHenry May 22 in a project sponsored jointly by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars and their auxiliary units. Shown above, preparing for the sale, are Ila Hogan, right, junior vice-president of the McHenry V.F.W. auxiliary, who pins a poppy on Eileen White, American Legion auxiliary Poppy chairman. PLAINDEALER PHOTO Congregation Attends Spanish Language Rite REV. ROMIRO RODRIQUEZ Spanish language services will be attended by the entire congregation of the First Baptist church of McHenry as they observe a special em phasis upon reaching out to become involved with special social and ethnic groups of the community. Rev. Romiro Rodriquez, assistant pastor of the local church, will be preaching at the 7:30 p.m. worship hour in the Spanish language. In order that non- Spanish speaking persons may participate, the entire service will be interpreted by Rev. James Godsoe, language missionary for the Illinois Baptists in the Chicago area. There will also be singing in Spanish during the special service. The local church and the entire community is ap preciative of the efforts of Rev. Rodriquez in ministering to the Latin-American people of the county. Coming from a Texas pastorate last January, he has found a good response to his ministry in northern Illinois. The public is invited to attend this unique worship service. Work among the Spanish language group is only one of the many special areas of concentration of the First Baptist church of McHenry. The church also provides a ministry to the deaf, directed by Mrs. Tom Jackson; a week day nursery school, directed by Mrs. Virgle Chappell; and a bus ministry directed by Les Thomas. The aggressive congregation is presently seeking an assistant pastor to give special attention to ministry among young people. The church is observing its tenth anniversary this year. PAGE 3-PLAINDEALER-WEDNESDAY, MAY 19, 1971 Compliance With Corn, Wheat A Set Aside Programs Vern Anderson, county executive director of the McHenry county ASCS office, states that the county ASCS office is now prepared to receive reports of compliance from farmers who have signed up in the 1971 Set Aside Corn and Wheat programs. Compliance by farmer's certification is a do-it-yourself system by which farmers participating in this year's farm program report their set aside and program acres on photocopies of their farms, which are on file at the county office in Woodstock. This system of certification has been used for several years. Mr. Anderson cautions farmers to be able to give exact locations of set aside and crop acreage by footage measurements. Those farmers who have signed up in the Set Aside Wheat program must be reported by June 15 and in the Set Aside Corn program by July 1. Since there are ap proximately 1,150 farms in this year's program, farmers should begin reporting their acreages immediately after they are done planting in order to avoid the last minute rush to meet the deadline, Mr. An derson adds.
