WILLIAM FEFFER MARRIED--A late spring wedding solemnized Saturday, May 8, in St. Mary's Catholic Church, McHenry, united in marriage Miss Diane Adams and Mr. William Feffer. Miss Adams is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Adams of 6412 W. Bull Valley road, McHenry, and Mr. Feffer is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Feffer of Strong road, Crystal Lake. The McHenry Town and Country Newcomers club held its monthly meeting last week at Faith Presbyterian church. Mrs. Grinstead introduced the guest speaker, Warren Kuhlman, chairman of the Planning commission for the city of McHenry. Kuhlman spoke to the newcomers on McHenry's role in the region concerning schools, parks and recreation, soil interpretation, zoning ordinances, highway development, population and business growth proposed for the next twenty years. The book "Comprehensive Plan, McHenry City, Illinois, April, 1970" can be purchased at the court house, which explains in detail the historical data and background material on the economic and population base and projections. Kuhlman was chairman of the extensive study, along with city officials and other outstanding men in the area. Following a question and answer session, Mrs. John Gunderson, club president, introduced the newcomer guests, Mesdames Steve Moor, Dave Wiese, Bud Christensen and Norman Cillo. Mrs. Gunderson thanked members, Mesdames Dale Sprouse, Victor Sarabia, Rich Fruscello, Walter Price, Carl Grinstead, Tom Murray and Pearce Konold, who worked on MR. AND MRS. RICHARD C. PENNER A wedding of interest at St. Joseph's Catholic church, Richmond, on Saturday, May 8, united in marriage Miss Juellen Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray J. Miller of Rich­ mond, and Mr. Richard C. Penner. son of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Penner of Concord, Calif. Rev. Thomas W. Neville of­ ficiated at the 11 o'clock guitar Mass. Matron of honor was the bride's sister, Mrs. James (Diana) Kattner. Miss Kathy Sue Bergsma, cousin of the bride, and Miss Pam Haase, a friend, were bridesmaids. Skip Wirch, cousin of the bride, served as best man. Groomsmen were Ken Van- Dyke and Dave Nordstrom, friends of the groom. Ushers were Jim Kattner and Bill Arseneau. An evening reception was held at the Johnsburg Com­ munity club, Johnsburg, for friends and relatives. The bride is a 1966 graduate of Marian Central Catholic high school, Woodstock, and at­ tended Alverno college, Milwaukee as an art major. She is now working as a graphic artist for Varian Aerograph. The bridegroom graduated in 1963 from Mt. Diablo high school, Concord, Calif., and attended Mt. Diablo Valley the Saturday tag day to raise funds for the Family Service and Mental Health clinic. Mrs. Ron Newport, second vice-president, reported on the spring golf instruction classes. The office of secretary, Mrs. Pearce Konold, and treasurer, Mrs. Dale Sprouse, members of the Pi Alpha Beta Sigma Phi sorority and co-founders of the Newcomers club, resigned their positions so it could be filled by a newcomer to the area. The secretary and treasurer positions were first held by sorority members until the club was established. Mrs. Norman Cillo, new member, to the club, will fill the secretary- treasurer position until December. Refreshments were served by the May hostesses, Mesdames Ron Newport, Rich Fruscello, Tom Murray and John Gunderson. Kuechel Baby Is Christened The infant son of Pvt. and Mrs. William K. Kuechel was christened William Karl at St. John the Baptist church, Johnsburg, on May 16, with Susan Huska of McHenry and David Weber of Johnsburg acting as sponsors. Following the church service, a reception was held at the home of the paternal grand­ parents, Mr. and Mrs.William A. Kuechel of Sunnyside Estates. In attendance were the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Oeffling, Sr., Bob and David Kuechel, Mr. and Mrs. Steven Huska and Stevie, David Weber, Diane and Scott Oeffling. The baby was born April 11 at Memorial hospital, Woodstock, and weighed 8 lbs., 14 ozs. His father is with the Army, stationed in Fort Lewis, Wash. MR. AND MRS. RICHARD JUSTEN Nuptial Rite May 15 Unites McHenry Couple A beautiful spring wedding was solemnized at St. Mary's Catholic church, McHenry, Saturday, May 15, when Mary Janet DeMar of 4520 W. Park­ view, McHenry, became the bride of Mr. Richard F. Justen, Jr., of 819 N. Green street, McHenry. They repeated their vows before Rev. Lawrence Urbaniak at a 2:30 afternoon Mass. Mary is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Demar of McHenry, and Richard is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard F. Justen, Sr., also of McHenry. Mrs. Charles Nelson was soloist for the ceremony, ac­ companied by Sister M. An- dreella on the organ. The pretty bride chose a full May Devotions To Precede St. Agatha Meeting May devotions, including the Living Rosary and Benediction, will precede the Tuesday, May 25, meeting of St. Agatha Court 777, National Catholic Society of Foresters at Johnsburg. Members of St. Agatha Junior court will form the living rosary and the girls from the eighth grade graduating class will make up the court for the May crowning. The devotions will begin at 7:30 p.m. in St. John's church, with the business meeting following in the Community club hall. Mrs. Carl Neiss will be in charge of the committee for the social hour after the meeting* She will be assisted by Mrs. Donald Weber, Mrs. Bonnie Nelson, Mrs. Agnes Nell, Miss Eileen Huff, Mrs. Helen Ogelsby, Mrs. Charles Majercek, Miss Mary Him- plemann, Mrs. Francis Schmitt and Mrs. Edward Frett. St. Agatha Junior court has again qualified for a merit citation for 1970. An emblem indicating the court qualifies for the second consecutive year will be presented at a later date. The Junior courts of the National Catholic Society of Foresters are rated on the activity reports submitted to the home office each year. Directors for St. Agatha Junior court for 1970 were Carl Neiss, Mrs. Boyd Lindt and Mrs. Leo Schaefer. Junior college. He is presently employed as territorial manager for Charm Step Shoes, a division of Genesco, in Concord, Calif. Following their wedding trip, the newlyweds will reside in Concord, Calif. VIRGINIA KAUSS TELL WEDDING PLANS--Plans for a June 26 wedding in Bangkok, Thailand, where they are serving with the Peace corps, have been revealed by Miss Virginia Kauss and Tom Holden Caudill. TTie bride elect is the daughter of Mrs. Mary D. Kauss, Santa Fe, New Mexico, and a granddaughter of Mrs. Elvera Durland of McHenry. Mr. Caudill is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Julian T. Caudill, Elizabethton, and grandson of Dr. E.L. Caudill, Sr., Elizabethton. Miss Kauss attended St. Edward's university in Austin, Texas, majoring in linguistics, and graduated from the University of the Americas in Mexico City with a degree in Spanish literature. In 1968 she was chosen "Miss HemisCair" of the San Antonio World's fair. She joined the Peace Corps in February, 1970, and has been teaching at Pitchburi college in Bangkok, Thailand. Mr. Caudill graduated from Elizabethton high school in 1963 and received his A.B. degree in Political Science at East Tennessee State university. He was working on his Master's degree in Asian history when he joined the Peace Corps. He is teaching English at the Satri Elementary school in Loei, Thailand. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Caudill will continue to teach for another year at Satri school in Loei. The bride's mother is in Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Her matching lace edged mantilla was held by a miniature Camelot headpiece and fell to a full chapel length train. Nancy Feucht of West Bend, Wis., served as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Barbara DeMar, sister of the bride, Mary Himpelmann, Pam Kasper and sisters of the groom, Tammy and Sheila Justen. Jani Fredrickson of Mundelein was the flower girl. The bridesmaids wore gowns fashioned of orchid sola peau styled with high rise bodices, full sleeves and semi sheath skirts. The gowns were ac­ cented by mock lace boleros and cuffs of deep purple lace. Their matching blusher veils were attached to a lace forward cluster. The flower girl wore a similar gown and a matching bow headpiece. They all carried bouquets of multi color spring flowers. Jim May of Crystal Lake was best man. Groomsmen were Steve Schweikert of Dundee, Jim Kujak of McHenry and Bill Creighton of Algonquin. Brian Diedrich served as ring bearer. Ushers were Joseph DeMar, Jr., the bride's brother, and Guy Justen, the groom's brother, both of McHenry. The bride's mother chose a pink coat and dress ensemble with matching accessories. The bridegroom's mother wore a lime green coat and dress ensemble with matching ac­ cessories. Following the ceremony, a reception for 250 friends and relatives was held at the V.F.W. hall, McHenry. The bride graduated from St. Mary academy, Prairie du Chien, Wis., in 1964. She is now a beautician at Riverside Hairstyling shop in McHenry. The groom is a 1964 graduate of McHenry Community high school and is presently em­ ployed in DesPlaines for the Nuclear of Chicago cor­ poration. After a honeymoon to California, the young couple will make their home in McHenry. St. Clara Court, No. 659, will hold its regular " monthly meeting May 27 at 8 p.m. in Mary hall of Montini school. This will be known as a dog- ' and-suds night. The chairman is Martha Freund, and her committee is composed of Matilda and Sue Gerasch, Barbara and Mary Jo Gilpin, Audrey Glosson, Patricia Griffith, Irene Guffey, Barbara Hanson, Marilyn Harrison and Evelyn Hay. Attend Annual CD of A Mothers Dinner The annual Mothers' Day banquet of the Catholic Daughters of America was held last week at the Longhorn Steak house, Lilymoor. Out of town guests for the event were Madeleine Schroeder, state monitor, and members of the C.D. of A. court at Elgin. The prayer before dinner was presented by Father John Dording. McHenry Regent Bertilla A. Freund welcomed all members and their guests to the annual event. Master of ceremonies for the evening, Elvina Latimer, in­ troduced Father Edmund Petit, who delivered a short talk to those assembled. Gifts were awarded to the youngest mother present, Mrs. James (Qatherine) Nye, and the oldest mother in attendance, Mrs. Marie Vales. Entertainment for the evening was provided by Mrs. Mary Ann Wegener, who sang "Mother Machree" and by Orville Freund who rendered a solo, "Danny Boy". Both were accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Mary Ann Sharp. At the end of'the program, benediction was conducted by Father Eugene Baumhofer. An enjoyable social hour followed the festivities. Designate May Senior Citizen Month In Nation Although May has been designated as Senior Citizens month, every month is Senior Citizens month for the mem­ bers of the local* club, with an abundance of activity. The first meeting in May was a card party following the short business session, with beautiful potted plants as table prizes. The meeting May 24 will be a smorgasbord dinner at 6:30 p.m., followed by a style show with some of the members as models. If you haven't made your reservations, May 17 is the deadline. Call Louise Giel at 497-3646 at once. Those who cannot attend the dinner, be sure to come at 7:30 p.m. for the short business meeting and style show. Have you made your reservation for the bus trip to New Glarus, Wis., June 23? And, if there are enough in­ terested in a trip to the Arlington Park race track, George Binder will try to make arrangements for such a trip in June. The Picnic committee is working on plans for this gala annual event. It is scheduled for Saturday, July 10, at Veterans Acres on the Crystal Lake blacktop. DEBBIE ANN SAMEN ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED--Miss Debbie Ann Samen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward G. Samen of 412 N. Lily Lake road, McHenry, is engaged to Mr. Frank Swzda of Villa Park, 111., according to an announcement made this week by her parents.
