The townships of Riley, Alden, Seneca and Hebron do not have representation on the board and the society would welcome volunteers from those areas. The third grade classes of Mrs. Karlove and Mrs. Dee, from Prairie Grove School, Crystal l.ake. in all forty-eight pupils, visited the museum headquarters and saw for the firsJ time a bed warmer dating back to^he 1890'S; the platter that came over on the Mayflower, wooden ice skates, -a sausage stuffer, a forerunner of T V. which was a stereop- tican viewer and an old fashioned hair curler. The headquarters are open every Friday and teachers and their classes are welcome. The hours are from 10 to 12 and from 1 to 3 p.m. The annual picnic will be held at Fox River Grove Sunday. Tips For' The Homemaker B Location is just one of the many factors families consider when selecting a relatively per manent place to live. But few people realize the complexity and importance of carefully analyzing the location of their dwelling place. Katharine Neumann, McHenry county Extension adviser, says your first step in selecting a location is in vestigating the neighborhood. But be sure to look beyond its current condition. Try to visualize what it may look like in five or ten years. Observe the growth patterns of the neighborhood. For example, areas of good quality housing are likely to expand outward in the same general direction. Likewise, poor housing areas will probably expand. Try to choose a place in the path of desirable growth. Mrs. Neumann offers the following check list to serve as a guide in selecting a good location: PRIVACY - H&uses and lots arranged to give maximum seclusion. NEIGHBORS -- Primarily people in the same general social and economic level as yours. SCHOOLS - Good schools close by and not across main thoroughfares. PLAYGROUNDS - Within a f^w Jalocks and having separate play areas for the younger and older children . COMMUNITY CEiyft]R -- Churches and amusements within the area. Local shopping within walking distance, and major shopping center within a few miles. COMMUNITY PRIDE ~ Houses in good repair, lawns well kept, and trees in good condition. TRANSPORTATION Public transportation available and frequent service. TRAFFIC - No thoroughfare through the neighborhood. Streets laid out to give maximum safety. SANITATION Public water supply, public sanitary sewer system, and regular, frequent public or private collection of trash and garbage. Also check if water is softened. POLICE AND FIRE PROTECTION -- Well trained and equipped forces in the locality, POLLUTION -- Nothing in the vicinity to produce noise, smoke, dust or odors. HAZARDS -- No airports or fuel storage tanks for a con siderable distance. CONTOUR OF LAND - Moderately sloping or rolling land. No high hills that would cut off summer breezes or present winter driving problems. Good drainage is desirable. MARRIAGE LICENSES Manuel A Guevara. Jr., 906 Marian.
