ITEM: The covering material fits so tightly over prepackaged luncheon meats because air is drawn from the package during the packaging process. This is done to eliminate oxygen that might cause deterioration of the luncheon meat. Fresh beef and pork are not vacuum packed in the same fashion because, in the absence of air, such meats look dark. Producers don't believe con sumers would buy meat that is a different shade from which they are accustomed. The time to dig a well is be fore you get thirsty; to save money, before you are broke. There's a nosey old postman who reads all our mail- by the time that we get it, the news has gone stale. f ? And we got a car, ' ^ mighty ancient of face- but it gets us around, so it airft no disgrace. There's a few apple trees out back in the yard- - come time for pickin' they're wormy and scarred. But with each day's trials, there's one thing at best- your hand is in mine- to heck with the rest. by LaVon B. Dowhin WELCOME We've added two more customers, We are delighted to say And look on in wonderment Because it really is that way. Amid the four and twenty grackles, A dozen of redwings, too And a sprinkle of chirping sparrows Maybe a dove or two. Atop the nearby feeder, a vexed Bluejay calls for cops """ The squirrels head for their bounty With seemingly measured hops. Suddenly a pair of mallards Fly in from outer space Upset the tranquil wooded glen Surprisingly with their grace.
