Ringwood News Flying Parson Gives Program Af Local Church Wayne S. * Nordstrom referred to as The Flying Parson, will speak at the Ringwood church Saturday evening, July 10, at 8 p.m. This will be held under the big tent on the church lawn and we have plans^ to discourage the mosquitos and insects. Mr. Nordstrom is a United Methodist lay pastor and his speech centers about a "treasure" of old bottles and glass found under the one hundred year old home where he now resides and is presented in the manner of the old fashioned "Medicine Show". Those who have heard Mr. Nordstrom speak before, can guarantee you a " highly amuspig and r entertaining evening with a worthwhile messa'ge. A free-will offering will be taken. ANNUAL ' CHICKEN BAR-B-Q Final preparations for the annual Chicken Bar-B-Q to be held on the church lawn Sun day, July 11, are being made. Some^of you (or most of you) have been called on by different ones of the committees for ^donations, pies and help. Serving will be from 11:30 through 2:30 p.m. and consists of a half chicken, baked potato, baked beans, roll, butter and beverage. The dessert is extra. ABOUT TOWN Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Kor- wicki of Kenosha and Mr. and Mrs. David Johnson of Wilmette were recent guests in the Brennan-Hepburn home. Diane Christopher spent last week in Appleton anddid some sightseeing via motorcycle. She - finds the car more comfortable riding for any lengthy traveling. Gary Linstad was an over night guest at the Art Christophers. The Bill Cristy and Art Christopher families enjoyed a Fourth of July cook-out at the Bob Decker home in Wonder Lake. Bill and Bob Baker were both lucky boys and got to go to a Cubs ball game on "June 17 at Wrigley Field. They went as guests of the Woodstock Sen tinel. The game was a 10 inning game and the Cubs won 7 to 6., Alice, Orpha and Zelma of Volo and Lake Zurich called on their sister Nettie Wright on Thursday of last week. Also stopping in was Beth Russell of Volo and daughter Genevieve and husband Joe Wiser of Volo. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Wright accompanied their daughter, Gen, to Marengo on Monday of last week. r Tom Low and Larry "Luke" Ackerman have returned home ~ after a week of camping with two troiips from McHenry, and one of Wonder Lake, at the U.S. Grant Council, near Apple River. This is a first for them to attend this camp, as we are in the Blackhawk area. They served their Junior leadership atThis time. They said the food was good and the scenery was beautiful. They also had a lot of company. Seeing that there were so many boys and so 4 many treats that were being fed to the raccoons that they wanted to sleep with the boys at night. The Ladies "500" club once again met at Mrs. Howes with Mrs. Ruby Shepard en tertaining the ladies. Mae Weidrich took high and Ruby Shepard came away with low. CAMPING SQUARES Walt and Doris Low ac companied Albie and Dorothy Adams and family camping last weekend at Eagle Cave, Wis. Those square dancing nuts of the Checkerboard squares went as a club (those who could go) to Eagle Cave camping and then on Saturday night there was a square dance in the cave. Lots of fun and "we earned another badge. Plumbing Basics Classes To Open Next Thursday The first in a series of classes in plumbing basics for city and count# ^building and plumbing inspectors in McHenry county will be held in the office of McHenry County Building Commissioner Fred Otto, Thursday, July 15, at 7:30 p.m. The classes are being sponsored by the Plumbing and H e a t i n g C o n t r a c t o r s association of Lake and M c H e n r y ( b o u n t i e s : a n d Plumbers Union Local 93 which has jurisdiction in the two counties.
