Kunz, daughter of Mr. William Kunz of 2603 W Fairoak lane, McHenry, chose Saturday, Aug. 7, to become the bride of Mr. Michael J. Roepenack of 4514 Garden Quarter, McHenry. Michael is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Rospenack of Burlington, Iowa. They repeated their nuptial vows before Rev. Herman Graef in Zion Lutheran church, McHenry, at a 1 o'clock af­ ternoon ceremony. Special musical selections presented at the services were "Hawaiian Wedding Song'" and "We've Only Just Begun". The church was decorated with bouquets of assorted summer flowers. Given in marriage by1 her father, the pretty bride wore a four-tiered chantilly lace, chapel length gown featuring a sabrina neckline, fitted bodice, long, wrist length, pointed sleeves adorned with pearls and iridescent sequins and a full bouffant skirt Her nylon illusion, two-tiered bouffant veil attached to a chantilly lace, petal shell face-framer crown was highlighted with pearls and aurora borealis crystals. Her only jewelry was a necklace, a gift from the groom Her bridal bouquet was of white daisies and carnations. Mrs. Barbara J Nelsen, a sister-in-law of the bride, served as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs Dottie L. Nelsen. sister-in-law of the bride, Miss Sharon L Neumann. Miss Carlotta Olsen and Mrs Sharon M Klontz. friends of the bride from McHenrv. The bride's niece. Robin L. Nelsen of McHenry, was flower girl. The attendants wore pink, romance blue, Nile green, melon and aqua-colored silk organza floor length gowns enhanced With Venice lace. Matching bow, half hat crowns with two-tiered maline veils completed their ensembles. The flower girl wore a maize- colored gown similar to the attendants. Each carried a bouquet of multi-colored carnations and daisies. Each attendant received a birthstone necklace, a gift from the bride and groom James Gruber, a friend of the groom, served as best man. Groomsmen were Dean Dowell of Antioch, Thomas Roepenack of Zion, Timothy Roepenack of Waukegan and Rusty Roepenack of Normal, all cousins of the groom. Usher was Wilber F. Marks, Jr., of McHenry, a friend of the groom. Following the ceremony, a reception was held for 200 friends and relatives at Tomasello's restaurant, Johnsburg The bride graduated from McHenry high school in 1969 and is now a receptionist for Mcllenry's city clerk. The groom is a 1963 graduate of Antioch high school and is presently employed as a mechanic for Outboard Marine corporation. After a honeymoon trip camping and boating through Wisconsin, the newly weds will live at 4814 N Howard street, McHenry. The actual birth date was July 28. Mr Kempfer resides in the Mrs Ruby Shepard home at Ring wood. Local Couple Recites Vows At St. Mary's St. Mary's Catholic church, McHenry, was the scene of a pretty summer wedding Saturday, Aug. 7, when Jane M. Phannenstill became the bride #f John R. Hickey. Rev. Ken­ neth Brown and Rfev. Joseph F. Kulak officiated at the 2:30 afternoon Mass. Jane is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Phannenstill of 908 N. Allen avenue, McHenry, and John is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hickey of 5300 W. Willow lane, Lakeland Park. Mark Bartos was soloist for the ceremony, accompanied by Sr. M. Andreella on the organ. Given in marriage by her parents, the petite bride chose a full length, candlelight silk organza gown adorned with Venice lace and pink satin ribbon fashioned with a fitted empire bodice, mandarin collar, long, wrist length Juliet sleeves and a detachable chapel length train. Her can­ dlelight, nylon illusion, bouf­ fant veil fell from a silk organza Camelot bonnet highlighted with pink ribbon and Venice lace. She carried a cascading bouquet of pink sweetheart roses, white car­ nations and white fuji mums. Miss Jean Phannenstill at­ tended her sister as maid of honor. Three other sisters, Mrs. Ruth Ann Granger of Barrington, Mrs. JudSfv An- tonson of Wilmington, Del., and Mrs Joyce Dixon of McHenry, the groom's sister, Kathy Hickey, McHenry, were bridesmaids along with Bobbie Conrad, McHenry, and Carol Bolton of Antioch. A niece of the bride, Gina Dixon, was flower girl and Tommy Antonson, her nephew, was ring bearer. The attendants wore floor length gowns of pink chiffon adorned with multi-color Venice lace braid, fashioned with empire bodices, high fluted necklines, long, wrist length Bishop sleeves and a large back bow of pink satin. Their headpieces were of pink carnations. Each carried a cascading bouquet of pink carnations and baby's breath. The groom's brother, Thomas Hickey, served as best man. Groomsmen were Richard Phannenstill, a brother of the bride, Tom Blake, Joseph Blenner, Joseph Fino, Curtis Freund and Fred Sorenson, all of McHenry. Ushers were Charles Brougham of Chicago and Jon Meyer of McHenry. - ~ Following the ceremony, a reception for 300 friends and relatives was held at the Johnsburg Community club. The bride graduated from McHenry Community high school in 1968 and is now a beautician. Her bridegroom is a 1964 graduate of McHenry Community high school and is employed by the Chicago Police department. After a wedding trip north, the young couple will live at 2642 W. Foster, Chicago. PLAINDEALER PHOTO More Than 100 Begin Work On Flower Show More than one hundred Crystal Lake women have already begun work on the 1971 flower show, "Holiday Hap­ penings," to be presented to the public on Thursday, Sept. 23, from 2 to 8 and Friday, the twenty-fourth, from 12 to 7. The general co-chairmen, Mrs. Donald Rhodes and Mrs. Wayne Hansen, members of the Garden Gate Garden club, led the first planning meetings more than six months ago. Artistic works will include arrangements suitable for a foyer, door swags and wreaths and mantle decorations. Halloween through New Year's festivities will be accented in arrangements, decorations and table settings. The backdrop at the main beach Recreation building may seem in September to be far ffom cold weather holidays and frolicking i n the snow, but once inside the exhibition hall the staging of Mrs. Ronald Blaul and her committee will provide the perfect setting for the lovely entries. Author Will Address PWP Chapter Friday On Friday, Aug. 13, Lake Area Chapter No. 189 of Parents Without Partners will hold a general meeting at 8 :30 p.m. in the Yacht club room at the Crystal Bowl, Rts. 31 and 176, Crystal Lake. Guest speaker for the evening will be E.C. Alft, past- mayor of Elgin, and author of two books on economy, whose topic will be, "Is Thrift Still a Virtue?" Shaw, known to all the delegates as "Rae", was the most "special" guest as she is national president of the American Legion auxiliary and comes from Paxton, 111. Other distinguished guests were Gov. Richard B. Ogilvie; Mrs. Richard I. Nicholes, department commander, American Legion; Miss Ruth Hitch, chapeau departmental, Eight ' and Forty. Mayor Rjchard J. Daley of Chicago wafe unable to attend and Jack Reily, a representative of Mayor Daley, addressed the con­ vention and welcomed the delegation to Chicago. Mrs. Betty Lou Smith, Veteran's Craft chairman, received recognition for her craft sales, with the McHenry unit having the eighth highest sales in the state. The Poppy centerpiece made by Marie Bykowski won a third place award and Mrs. Violett accepted the cash award for Mrs. Bykowski. The McHenry unit moved up from ninth place to sixth place in high membership with over 500 units in the department. Our membership now stands at 407, three over quota. The publicity book, made and compiled by Mrs. Pearl Cooper, was one of five books in the department competition. Mrs. Cooper won first place in the 11th district elimination and first place in the second division contest. The convention ended with the installation of the 1971-72 officers. Mrs. Firman (Ramona) Hendricks of Cerro Gordo will be the new depart­ ment president; Mrs. Victor (Cathy) Lello of Evergreen Park, first vice-president; Mrs. William (Loretta) Stringer of Charles Roth Unit 692, second vice-president; Mrs. John (Lucille) Acklin of Oakland Kenwood Unit 774, and Miss Geraldine M. Riden of Peoria was elected as historian. Mrs. Stringer and Mrs. Acklin are from Chicago. Inhaling fumes from gasoline-powered lawn mowers may constitute a health hazard, according to Dr. Franklin D. Yoder, public health director. Pointing out that a person breathes an average of 18 to 24 times a minute, he compared the experience to inhaling fumes on congested public highways where automobile and truck exhaust fumes are excessive.
