Defending her title from last year, Carol Cooney, main tained a cool and steady pace to emerge the champion for the second time in 9s many years. Though under steady pressure from a hopeful Alvina Yopp, the blonde bombshell established her lead early in the tournament and held on through the final 18. Sinking her ^approach for a par five on 12 on Tuesday and dropping her approach for a birdie on No. 4 the previous week were just a couple of Carol's feats of skill that make her the champion she is. Class A brought forth a new victor in the person of Dee Overton. Going into the final round one stroke behind Liz Nolan, Dee quickly picked up the lead and emerged the victor. During the last 18 however, it looked like anybody's chance until Liz hit a wrong ball on No. 4 for a two- shot penalty and Letty Busscher started hitting trees and going out of bounds. (Six trees on four holes for Letty). From there on the trophy was O00 s In Class B Nell Fidler had little competition as she waltzed home with the title for Low Gross in that class. Net champion in that class is another matter, however, since Mable Smith and Katherine Bolger tied for that distinction and will go into an 18-hole playoff Monday. Class C found things being upset a little. Five strokes behind Jackie Victor, the leader, Charlotte Zwissler showed her true competitive spirit and forged ahead to victory, overtaking Jackie and beating her by one stroke to give her the win. The weather' was beautiful, the excitement great and the competition stimulating. All in all, the tournament was eycellent and, undoubtedly, next year all the losers will be gunning for all the winners. Congratulations are truly in order for the winners and heartfelt sympathy is extended to the almosts. LADIES' GOLF In playing off a team tie, Millers High Life defeated McHenry Rec.
