Here & There In BUSINESS Form Life Underwriters Course In Area James G. Longhway of McHenry, president of Bry-Lon Ltd., Crystal Lake, has been appointed chairman of a special committee of the McHenry County Association of Life Underwriters to spearhead the formation of a class in the Life Underwri'ters Training council's course of life in surance sales training. The appointment was an nounced by Elmer E. Luepke of Harvard; president of the association. Longhway has been active in McHenry county life insurance circles for over fifteen years. He is a member of the Crystal Lake Rotary and Chamber of Commerce. He has received numerous awards for sales achievement. He is also a National Life Underwriter quality award winner for the year 1970. This is the first year that the newly organized McHenry County Association has sponsored the LUTC program. Headquartered in Washington D.C., LUTC was officially formed through the joint efforts of company and field organizations in 1947 as an independent, non-profit educational organization. The council offers a two-year practical sales training program in life insurance with weekly 2V2 hour classes run ning from October to May and a one-year course in disability income insurance with weekly sessions from October to Januarv Longhway stated, "We are limiting our enrollment to twenty-five and enrollment will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Any life insurance agent that meets the basic enrollment requirements is eligible to apply. "He urged all agents desiring to attend to obtain enrollment forms from him. He may be contacted by calling 459-3300. NEW PLANT FOOD What is described as a spectacular new plant food for florists and house plant fan ciers is presently being tested out with excellent results. The product is a result of the talent of Glenn Elliott of McHenry, a local pharmacist. Known as Jungle Juice, it will not be on the market until November. Legislation Wins Approval The following new legislation has been approved by Gov. Richard B. Ogilvie: --Authorizes the Illinois Department of Local Govern ment Affairs to apply a township equalization factor within counties along township lines if the city executive or county board of review requests the department to do so. -- Defines \fair cash value" to mean 50 per cent of the full market value of both real and personal property. -- Provides scholarships to the state college or university of their choice for children of policemen and firemen killed in line of duty. -- Appropriates $2.4 million for Malcolm X Community College which, the governor said, "has attracted and retained students far in excess of the estimates of enrollment and need." -- Provides compensation for families of Illinois National Guardsmen or Naval Militiamen killed in line of duty. -- Authorizes city councils to appoint one of its members temporary mayor if the mayor is absent and an emergency arises. -- Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to provide that local governments retain specified powers and functions uniform and exclusive throughout Illinois and all political subdivisions. -- Amends Vehicle Code to provide that proof of financial responsibility may be given by obtaining a certificate of self- insurance. -- Permits a city or village to provide by ordinance for payment of hospital-surgical plan costs for policemen and firemen who have retired due to duty disability and for those who have reached compulsory retirement age and have worked for at least 20 years. -- Makes the State Fair Trust Fund permanent and not to exceed $250,000. The fund was formerly set up annually between April 1 and Sept. 10. IIS Know {J JF T" s t m i # p - y * " - * Does a stationary front usu ally bring with it precipitation? Yes, as a general rule, a stationary front means prolong ed precipitation. It may well produce more precipitation, and over a longer period of time, than a warm front--which con tains more precipitation than a cold front. A stationary front is nothing more than a collision of a warm front and a cold front. The re sults is a stagnated front which has little or no forward speed. Therefore, if you see a sta tionary front marked in on the w e a t h e r m a p , a n d y o u h a v e made any plans for an outdoor occasion, or for flying, it might be well to postpone such activ ity until the front dissipates. Visibility is usually poor and precipitation prolonged beneath a stationary front. Wfeather Westinghouse Fall Freezer Time. . . I FROM. 18.0 CU.
