With only two more weeks left to go, Pro-Circle has captured first place honors and can't be beat. With the great team effort they took 2 points from Paradise Park and with the help of Mag-Val Con struction defeating Korpans for 2 points, made the standing final. Our congratulations go to the Pro-Circle team - Skip Wilson, (Captain) Len Gerke, John Lahse and A1 Goscinski. Going into the final round Pro-Circle will be playing Korpans for the last two weeks and Mag-Val will be playing Paradise Park. Mag-Val being on the bottom most of the year has a great chance of making a good finish by winning second place. Pro-Circle also won low team net with a 283 and Jim Jackson had low gross with a round of 80. The gaslight era, the roaring 20's, the flirty 30's will be brought back to life at the third annual Mid-America Antique Car show on the weekend of October 1-2-3 in the Arlington Park (race track) Convention- Exposition Center. Warriors Meet Saxons Of Schaumburg Tonight At McCracken Field By Fred Kusch Coach Bill Day's Warrior Gridders play host tonight to the Schaumburg high school Saxons in the season premiere of both teams at McCracken field. Game time is 8 p.m. lead by their eight returning let- termen the Warrior team is embarking 6n what they hope to the finest year for MCHS football for some time. Last Friday's intrasquad Soap Bowl game gave Warrior grid fans evidence that Coach Day's Stalwarts mean business as they displayed fine passing, blocking and running many times during the evening. The real test will be for the defense against Schaumburg. The defense which was spotty in last Friday's games at times was given an extra week's work and has now readied itself, I am sure, td make the Saxons feel the difference. The coaches and players are ready for Friday so let's show them the fans are ready too!! Be at McCracken field Friday and support the Warriors. The sophomore game starts at 6:45 so why not come out early and see the young Warriors do battle with the Saxons. The roller skating dance couple, Una Miller and Bryan Kasper, won third place in the '71 National Championship events (in termediate division) recently at South Amboy, New Jersey. Nice going. Joe Sutton says he and "Butch" Wattles, were classmates. In recent years they were neighbors. We keep getting chuckles as" we remember some of those conversations with "Butch"' over the years. He taught us a lesson when we bet on Jack Dempsey once too often. "Don't stay with a champion too long - - somebody's going to knock him off," is the way we remember the advice. (But, he took our money!) With Frank Meyer driving, John Bolger, "Butch" and yours truly went to Champaign many years ago to see the State Basketball Tournament in the old George Huff gym. It was a circus. EARL WALSH So I Hear SPORTS EDITORJ Time flies and things do change. When the Doyles lived in our neighborhood, Ed used to send the kids over to our back yard to play ball. While he was trying to get his lawn going, he would tell the kids to "Go over and play in Walsh's Park." (We didn't mind it one bit).. What puzzles us is this tennis bit. We thought those boys were being trained by their Dad to play with his favorite baseball team - the Cubs. Now is the time to clear out your closets and store rooms of winter clothes you will never wear. It is just one man's opinion, but it is our thought that clothing drives come too late. Those needy people can get mighty cold before warm clothes arrive. Has anybody seen Clyde Blackwell? We miss his regular visits. Alex Justen returned home from Evergreen, Colorado with a newspaper telling about the Doyle boys and their fine record in tennis competition. Ed, Jr., won the Evergreen District singles tournament. Tim, in his first tournament, placed fourth. Ed Jr., is in his second year in college on a tennis scholarship. Tim is in high school. McHenry Country Club In the first round of the Past Presidents Tournament held at the club on Sunday, Sept. 12, the winners in Class A were: B. Chelini, R. Johnson, A. Beck, D. Warfield, R. Spiess, H. Zwissler, A..Jackson, and J. Varese. In Class B, G. Anderson, J. McClory, W. Weber, W. Sigman, Doc Sayler, G. Elbersen, R. Turner and T Evans were victorious. Should be a great match between Dick Turner, the bad guy from Lake County and Tom Evans, whose gross 79 on Sunday stamps him as a real threat in Glass B. In Class C, H. Weiss, T Burke, C. Pease, C. Pyles, W. Yopp, Doc Sturm, J. Etten and E. Bishoff were winners. Best match in this class should be between "Wild Bill" Yopp and Doc Sturm. Low net winners as follows: Class A: 1) H Zwissler, 2) P. Overton and 3) A. Jackson (Tied). Class B: 1) T. Evans, 2) W. Weber, 3) Doc Sayler & 3) H. Nilles (Tied) Class C: 1) Doc Sturm, 2) R Hughes, 3) J. McClory and 3) C. Pyles (Tied). £ Day To- Night Bill Day, Warrior coach and his quarterback Ron Miller form a two-some as they plan the next offensive play. This will be a familiar scene this season as the McHenry Warriors have four night games at McCracken Field. Tonight, it's Coach Day and his Warriors under the home lights as they take on Schaumburg for the season opener.
