Playing for Da nan's Inn of Pell Lake, Wis., a group of players from the McHenry Men's Softball League recently captured third place in the Amateur Softball Association World Tournament held in St. Louis, Missouri. This was quite an accomplishment, considering that there were over 20 teams participating from all areas of the United States. The players cer tainly deserve to be congratulated for their fine efforts. Danan's Inn participated in the Trevor, Wis. league this summer, easily winning the league title. Team Sponsor, Don Gerstein, then decided to enter the team in the Wisconsin State Tour nament held in Manitowac. The team won the tournament without losing a game, and thus qualified for the World Tournament as Wis consin State Champs. The Wcrld Tournament was played over La bor Day Weekend in St. Louis.Danan's won their first game over the Iowa state champs by a score of 8-2. The next day they defeated the Missouri champions. Danan's next game was against So-Bee's of Chicago, the second seeded team. In probably the best game of the tourna ment, Danan's edged So-Bee's by the score of 5-4, and provided one of the big surprises of the tournament. Chicago teams always domi nate this tournament, and most people probably didn't give Danan's much of a chance. But the Pell Lake Team proved they could play with the big boys. Danan's met their match the next day against the eventual champs - the Carlu- cci Boosters of Chicago, dropping a 17-1 deci sion. This set up a return match with So- Bee's, since this was a double elimination tour nament. This time around however, So-Bee's defeated Danan's by a final score of 8-7, thus eliminating them and giving Danan's a third place finish. Altogether, the players on this team have much to be proud of. Members of the Danan's team are as follows: Jack Schaefer, Don Ger stein, Ray Hamm, Rob Hamm, Jim Meyers, Vinnie Freund, Bill Oeffling, Denny Hurley, Paul Morenz, Myron Bentz, Wayne Hiller, Tom Spasovich, Art Gerstead, Don Bentz and Dick HiLor. Re-Unite Rifle Squad After most football players leave the college ranks, they're pretty sure they won't ever be playing football on the same squad together again. And that might have been what Dave Shelbourne, Jon Hittman, Earl Zupanic, Mike Bryniarski and Rick Telender thought when they left Northwestern University. However, somehow they've all ended up on the Lake County Rifle roster this season. Shelbourne and Hittman were the first two to come to Rifle camp, shortly followed by Zupanic. Shelbourne and Hittman played quarterback and end, respectively, in college, so this was definitely to their advantage when Rifle camp opened. Timing is one of the hardest things for a passer and a receiver to acquire, so these two had a head start on the others. But Shelbourne was often late for practice sessions because of his job, and when he finally did start at the quar terback position, his favorite receiver, Hittman wasn't playing because of a pulled muscle. In the meantime, Zupanic was trying to break into the Ron Jurewicz-Karl Maio back- field, along with rookie Steve Pelot. Zupanic, while hailing from the same alma mater, is \)lder than the rest of his North- w e s t e r n t e a m m a t e s , graduating in 1967. He, nonetheless has aided the Rifles in the clutch, and had accounted for a couple Rifle scores this season. Relatively new additions to Rifle camp were Bryniarski and Telander who had been contacted by Shelbourne about coming out for the squad. Marriage Licenses George H. Haack of 2807 W. Mark Domoto, 311 N. River road, McHenry, and Holly D. Worm, 1700 Beach road, McHenry. Telander was an All Big Ten selection last year and was just recently cut from the Kansas City Chief's training camp. His natural position has been at end, but he is being converted to the flanker spot to fill in for injured John Pecaro. Brynarski comes as a welcome addition to the defensive backfield, and once familiar with the plays, should privide an added threat to the rest of the teams in the Central States Football League. And so, the Northwestern five are playing for the Lake County Rifles, and who knows what will come from this. BURGLARY SENTENCE Judge William Carroll, in Circuit court last week, sen tenced William H.
