Baptist Church Will Host Conference Guest Speakers PAGE 9-PLAINDEALER-FRIDAY, OTTOAFR 15, 197] REV. MARVIN BERRY 7:30 p.m., Rev. Bob Tremaine Southern Baptist missionary in Massachusetts, will also be speaking at the local church. Rev. Tremaine serves as pastor-director of the Wor­ cester Baptist church, Wor­ cester, Mass. He was pastor of a church in New Mexico from 1962 until assuming his present postion in 1967. A former high school teacher, Tremaine was also pastor at Red Springs, Texas. Rev. Tremaine is a graduate of Hardin-Simmons university in Abilene, Texas, and has attended Southwestern Baptist Theological seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and Eastern New Mexico university in Portales, New Mexico. He was listed in "Who's Who in American College" in 1956. The public is invited to participate in the entire week of mission emphasis. Other speakers are as follows: Monday, Rev. Richard Lusk of Hong Kong; Tuesday, Rev. Cass Vincent, pastor of Polish church in Chicago; Wednesday, Rev. Dennis Treat of Uruguay. Additional aqtivities for the week include a Youth Rally with the missionaries Satur­ day, Oct. 23 at the First Baptist church of Richmond. The young people from fourth grade through high school will assemble at 10 a.m. for con­ ferences relating to the three major mission fields, State, Home and Foregin Missions. Following the lunch period, the rally will be led by Rev. Bob Tremaine*. Astrology Class Is Available At Lake Region "Y" Mrs. Erika Herzy, a very experienced instructor of Akrology students, will teach a class at the Lake Region YMCA on Wednesdays from 4 to 6 p.m. The class is scheduled to meet for seventeen weeks beginning Oct. 20. Women from 16 years of age and up are invited to register before the first class session. The class will study the in­ fluence of the stars upon human affairs and learn ways to foretell Terrestrial events by their positions. I l luminated Past? Wabach. REV. BOB TREMAINE A World Missions Awareness conference is being conducted by the fifteen churches of the Fox Valley Baptist association Oct. 17-24. These churches are a cooperating association of Southern Baptist churches in McHenry, Kane and DeKalb counties. Services will be held each evening, Sunday through Wednesday, at 7:30 p.m. Each session in the various churches will feature a different m i s s i o n a r y s p e a k e r representing various mission involvements throughout the world. Rev. Marvin Berry, Southern Baptist missionary to the Spanish in Joliet, will be special guest speaker in the First Baptist church, McHenry, Sunday morning, Oct. 17, during the regular morning worship service at 9:40 a.m. Rev. Berry serves as a missionary to Spanish in Joliet, under appointment by the Baptist Home Mission board. He was appointed in 1964 to the Spanish in Sterling, 111. Rev. Berry attended language school at the Mexican Baptist Bible institute in San Antonio, Texas. He also studied at Morehead college in Morehead, Ky., and is a graduate of Southern Baptist Theological seminary, Louisville, Ky. Mr. Berry has been at his present assignment since 1968. Grand Council Chief Gene Burmeister announced that the River Nation with chief, Klaus Buchholz, is in charge of the ceremony, parking and registrations. The Lake nation, headed by Chief Carl Mick, is responsible for the site, ground, fire and refreshments. All new father and son braves will be in attendance for formal induction while their families observe. Other second and third grade Indian Guide fathers and sons will attend and help with the ceremony. Some ninety new pairs of father-son combinations were recruited during the annual school recruitment in Sep­ tember. These participants have joined a tribe in one of the Lake Region YMCA's fourteen communities of Algonquin, Cafy, Crystal Lake, Fox River Grove, Huntley, Island Lake, Lakemoor, Lake wood, Lake-In- The-Hills, McHenry, Oakwood Hills, Ridgefield, Wonder Lake and Woodstock. Frank Gregory, .Public Education chairman for the county and member of the Illinois Division board of the American Cancer society. Also attending the meeting as - delegates were Mrs. A.B. McConnell III, special education chairman for the county; and Dr. Ray Pen- singer, professional education chairman; and Mrs. Hiram Bright, 1972 Crusade chairman for the McHenry county unit. The program of the annual m e e t i n g p r e s e n t e d distinguished cancer research­ ers on the latest develop­ ments and training workshops, designed to strengthen the leadership of the organization. Dr. Charles Lock wood was elected a director of the Illinois division board of the American Cancer society at this meeting He has been a member of the McHenry county board for seven years and -resident of the unit for one y>ar. Volunteers In County Attend Cancer Meeting Among the close to 400 leading lay and medical volunteers who attended the annual meeting of the American Cancer society at the Sheraton-Blackstone hotel in Chicago recently were volunteers from the McHenry county unit: Mrs. Stanley Freeman, coordinator for the Reach to Recovery Program in McHenry county; Dr. Charles J Lockwood, Marengo physician and president of the McHenry county board of the American Cancer society; Mrs. Secretary of State John W. Lewis has released figures showing that 1,167 new cor­ porations were formed and licensed in Illinois in Sep­ tember, an increase of sixty- one over the 1,066 new cor­ porations in September of 1970. In the first nine months of 1971, 9,912 new corporations were incorporated or licensed in Illinois, an increase of 43 over the 9,869 new corporations in the same period last year. 3729 W. ELM ST.
